Sherjill MacDonald is back in Holland – but Albion’s Dutch striker insists he is not back home.
MacDonald is the only Dutchman in the Baggies’ touring squad and he admits he is enjoying one of two familiar comforts.
Yet the former Ajax trainee believes his heart is now very much in England.
He said: “I have just been to Holland on holiday for two months but I am used to living in England now so I don’t really miss Holland.
“It’s always nice to be home and we have nice weather as well. I’m from about three hours away from here near Amsterdam.
“It’s nice to see everything in Dutch and hear people speaking in Dutch. It’s good, but my home is in England now.”
Albion’s players and staff have been hugely impressed by the facilities on offer at Dutch sixth-tier club Sportclub Irene, based on the outskirts of Venlo.
The Baggies own Dutch youngster insists the club’s current training base is not typical of amateur football in his homeland.
He said: “It is very good here but believe me it’s not like that with all clubs.”
Another Dutch talent has joined the Baggies his summer, with Gianni Zuiverloon making the £3.2m switch from Heerenveen.
MacDonald is delighted with the capture of the full-back, who is eleswhere in Holland preparing to represent his country in the Olympics.
He said: “I have heard about him and think he is a good player. I played once with him in the national team and haven’t seen him play so I don’t know much about what he is like.
“In training I can see he is a good player.”
