Wolves fans can look forward to having the best target man in the Championship in Chris Iwelumo.
That’s the view of Iwelumo’s former Stoke team-mate Karl Henry, who roomed with the 6ft 3ins striker for two years at the Britannia Stadium.
The signing of Iwelumo raised some eyebrows among fans after the failure to sign Kyle Lafferty and Aaron Mclean.
Henry, who has shaken off a heel injury to declare himself for tonight’s friendly at Stoke, is in no doubt Wolves have added another quality player to their squad.
He said: “I think Chris will bring a great deal to the club. He’s 6ft 3ins, in great shape and I don’t think there’s a better target man in the division.
“He’s got experience and has scored goals wherever he’s been, including some crucial ones for Charlton last season in big games.
“I think the firepower we’ve got now shows the ambition of the chairman and manager. I think supporters will be pleased with all the business done so far.”
Along with their shared anecdotes from their time in the Potteries, Henry had another reason to welcome Iwelumo to Molineux, after scoring twice against Charlton last season, including the winner in a 3-2 epic in April.
He said: “We’ve always kept in touch having been room-mates at Stoke for a couple of years but we’ve never really had too much banter about what happened last season.
“I’m sure I’ll find the chance to bring it up now he’s here. If we’re rooming together next season, perhaps I’ll find the right time to pop the DVD on and let him have another look.
“In all seriousness Chris is a top man – a really good player and a good person to have around the place.
“We got on well at Stoke and it was great to see him arrive at the training ground on Monday.”
