Injury-hit Karl back in action

wd2511003qpr-v-wolves-23-g.jpgKarl Henry returns to action for Wolves tonight – after finally tracing his injury problem to his boots.

The former Stoke midfielder is set to take some part of tonight’s friendly at Hereford after being ruled out of Saturday’s defeat at Wrexham with a heel injury.

“I had been wearing some new boots which aggravated a minor problem with my heel,” said Henry. “I’ve managed to overcome it now and have had to

massacre a pair of boots in the process! I’m fine now, and hoping to be involved tonight, if selected.”

Henry is now looking forward to being involved in the engine room after Mark Davies, Dave Edwards and David Jones staked their claim for a central midfield berth at Wrexham in the race to replace transfer-listed Seyi Olofinjana.

“These games are just about building up to making sure we’re right heading into the new season, and for me it will be nice to get going with my first game and take it from there,” added Henry.

“I think all the lads have said so far how fit everyone is coming back.

“We’ve been doing a lot of running and now the balls are coming out again it’s understandable people are a bit rusty.

“There’s always a danger in pre-season, especially after everyone’s been

watching the European Championships, that everyone comes back and just wants to pass, pass, pass.

“But it’s all about fitness at this stage, and this will be another real test against a team wanting to impress and show what they’re about.”

Wolves’ other injured outfield player, new striker Sam Vokes, isn’t as lucky and won’t be risked with his ankle injury.

“He’s coming along but there’s no point risking him for tonight,” said boss Mick McCarthy.

New signing Chris Iwelumo and trialist Ian Harte are included in the 25-man Wolves squad at Edgar Street tonight.

Matt Murray and Sam Vokes are the only injured absentees.

There is again no place for Jay Bothroyd, nor fellow transfer-listed players Rob Edwards, Darren Potter, Stephen Elliott, Denes Rosa and the absent Seyi Olofinjana.

Squad: Hennessey, Ikeme; Foley, Little, Stearman, D Ward, N Collins, Craddock, Elokobi, Harte; Kightly, Bennett, Henry, Davies, D Edwards, David Jones, L Collins, Jarvis, Gray, S Ward, Daniel Jones; Keogh, Ebanks-Blake, Iwelumo, Hughes.

Wolves fans have been allocated two stands for tonight’s friendly.

Both the Blackfriars End and Cargill Stand (formerly the Floors-2-Go Stand) will be closed to Hereford fans for the game.

Bulls supporters will be situated in the Meadow End and Merton Stand. Admission is £8 and £4.

I have had to laugh …. Pie and a Pint has said that the Mulgrew deal was good for the club and player…? I somehow doubt it, as we probably got about £150k - so the Naylor deal was worth a maximum £750k. Now if he had said we had shifted Collins, this would have been a good move.
Right back to tonights game. I know we are still a little rusty but I expect some goals and a win tonight.
We are just a couple of players away from a quality squad and just need to shift some of the transfer listed for reasonable fees!

One down (Mulgrew) another few to go.

Lets see if there’s any improvement tonight at Hereford after the weekend disaster at Wrexham.

All our midfielders are ok but we need someone proven and good on the ball who can get forward. All these strikerswhen we have been crying out for someone to supply. It’s like buying new cars without haveing access to petrol.

Wolveswolves totally agree i know they are only friendlies but we should be beating these kind of teams, surely even our (run about squad)should be better than Hereford`s (run about squad).

“Davies, Dave Edwards and David Jones staked their claim for a central midfield berth at Wrexham”

and exactly how did they stake their claim in a game they lost 1-0 to a non league side?

Reality check - Wolves last season were poor, average at best. We have signed no-one that is any better than what we had - therefore we will still be an average championship side. It does not matter that we lost a friendly - the fact that we didnt manage to score or create a chance until 66 minutes in - now that does matter. We can sign all the strikers in the world but if we don’t CREATE a chance, we will never score many. Then again our tactics and creativity are never to be seen in the same sentence.

How do you negative people live with yourselves.
If you think wolves are a poor team then why pay to go and watch them? Infact why support them at all, i know at times you have to have a moan but its just all getting stupid now, its time to get behind the team.
The wolves team played so well in the 06/07 season because the fans actually got behind the team even when they were playing poor.
Last year there was way too much expectation and the hostile atmosphere at molineux when things wern’t going right affected the players a lot!

Mick Mcarthy might have made mistakes, but doesn’t every manager, he really does want wolves to do well as all the players do.
So lets all get behind the team for once and look forward to a great season.

‘A problem with my boots’ ….. heard it all now. Is this the TONY DALEY EFFECT? The list of ridiculous injuries justy goes on and on. Perhaps we should hire a faith healer? That might do it.Yeah - Billy Graham, come on over to Wolverhampton and pronounce “Matt Murray, arise, your knee is cured” !!!

    7. Well in answer to your question I am not paying my good money this season to go and watch them.
I learnt last year that there was no point wasting my hard earned money watching the total dross serves by Mick and his starving youngsters.

I will come back when either Mick can prove he is capable of putting out an exciting team to watch or when he is finally fired. I know which one I think will happen first

Brilliant news perhaps some of the other moaners will stay away with you.
When MM joined Wolves we did not have a team and expected relegation, he built from scratch and got us into a play off position.
Please can we all now get behind Mick and our team

    10) & 13) Depending of course on your ages I’ve probably been to more games than both of you. Supported the club through thick and thin for over 20 years.
Our wonderful Mick made an easy decision for me when I was debating where my priorities lay, with the family or with my club when he treated all of the fans with utter disregard last season.
On that basis I don’t see why I should help pay this guys wages.
When he goes I’ll be back, it probably tells you more about Mick than me, and there are many more like me.

  15. Realist said:

    14) How did Mick treat the fans with disregard? He is paid to manage the team the way he sees fit, not to pick who the fans want. Remember he see’s these players on the training ground, in the dressing room and on the pitch. He presumably like any manager in any organisation wants people in his team who get on together and do what he wants them to do.
The fans are entitled to their opinion but that doesn’t mean they’re right. Most saturdays 20,000+ fans shout that the referee has made a wrong decision only for them to be proved wrong on the replay.
Support the team whatever during the match, criticise them after the match. I’ve said before if you’re doing your job to the best of you ability on a particular day (and we all have bad days) how would you feel if 20,000 people kept shouting that you are c*$p? Would it motivate you? No.
Most of you critics are like the playground bully you pick on people (the players and manager) safe in the knowledge that they can never have a go back at you.
The most stupid post I’ve seen on here recently said; if we aren’t careful, with our current crop of players we’re going to end up playing like Stoke City!! Last time I looked Stoke were in the Premiership and even if they do a Derby they will have pocketed £60+Million.

yep.. its the boots.. so the reason i cant fly fighters anymore is “the wheels” not that im too old and slow?

  17. dohawolf said:

sorry, previous comment was too harsh.. on karl.. are we employing pros to sort out injuries or muppets? boots indeed. Ive had serios injuries.. first thing the physio looks at is your stance nd walking ability.

‘How did he treat the fans with disregard’ Are you having a laugh realist?

Every other week he came out with some gem or other criticising the fans - the most famous probably being the ‘nugget’ comment! (Oh and of course not being bothered to acknowledge the crowd after the last home game of last season)

As for ‘like any manager in any organisation wants people in his team who get on together’

football is about results not a ‘jolly up’ for a bunch of mates. Your theory suggests that if the best player in team is unpopular then he shouldn’t play - that just doesn’t make sense.

And as for ‘Support the team whatever during the match, criticise them after the match.’ isn’t that wolveswolves is doing here? - criticising out of match time. He is as entitled to his opinion as much as anyone else and his opinion of MM is not dissimliar to many thousands of other Wolves fans (mine included). I have always and will always be a Wolves fan but I will never again be a fan of MM.

    14,

Yeah you’ve been ’supporting’ the club for a whole 20 yrs!?!?!?

And last season was probably the first time you have had a season ticket, on the back of how well the lads did the season before, but then you went to every game home & away that season, just as you did when we were in the third & forth divisions, just like the rest of the whingers who feel it is thier god given right to come on here & slag off the club at every opportunity.

Now is a time to optimistic get behind the CLUB, just ike you were this time last.

If you can’t do that then stay away, its simple!!!

  20. wolveswolves said:

    19) Grace, don’t worry I will be staying away bit not because of you, but because I can’t support that man.

Incidently you have no right to say who should attend and who shouldn’t. None of us apart from Morga can say that.

  21. morganonthefrontfoot said:

wolveswolves; Applaud your decision not to come next season, better the dissatisfied stay away than whip up unrest in the ground. It’s ironic that our ticket sales are slow prior to what I believe will be our best season in years. Last season we were poor, the crowd were hostile, we suffered with key injuries and our striker’s misfired (for whatever reason) and yet we still finished seventh! MM now has his own players in every position, believe me this season is more important to MM than to anyone else at the Mol. Top two!!

Vokes injured already, hope he’s not another crock!
