Albion must up cash for Meite

meitejiofgqer.jpgWest Brom have been told they must up their offer if they want to make wantaway Bolton defender Abdoulaye Meite their next summer signing.

As transfer activity hots up at The Hawthorns Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson has made two visits to the Baggies’ training ground in Great Barr  and attention has turned back to 6ft 1in Ivory Coast defender Meite with Bolton manager Gary Megson dismissing his former club’s £1m opening offer for the 27-year-old defender out of hand.

The Baggies are now mulling over an improved bid for Meite, who is certain to leave the Reebok Stadium this summer after a bitter fall-out with Megson.

Meanwhile, the battle for Carson continued today with news emerging that the England international has twice visited Albion’s English training camp to talk terms.

Rumours persist that Middlesbrough and Blackburn are considering entering the race for the ex-Villa loanee, who is definitely on his way out of Anfield.

But The Baggies and Stoke are the only clubs so far to have bids accepted – the proposed fee is around £4m – and be given permission to open talks with the player.

Albion are hoping to add more new faces to their squad before the end of this week’s summer training trip to Holland and Germany after Slovakian international Marek Cech wrapped up his £1.4m switch from Porto yesterday.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year deal and manager Tony Mowbray has revealed he has been tracking the left-footer for more than a year.

“Following our promotion to the Premier League, it’s all about adding quality to the squad and creating competition for places,” said Mowbray.

“Marek will add a bit of versatility to the squad because he can play at left-back, left midfield or left centre-midfield.

“He’s been champion of the league he’s played in for the past four years and has nearly 30 international caps.

“Hopefully, there’ll be more signings to follow.”

Cech will not take part in tonight’s opening tour match against Borussia Moenchengladbach in the German town of Goch.

Just as I said earlier, poker player TM has kept his cards close and in pop quality players.
Glad to see the defence getting a bit of an overhaul.
    Roll on the Emirates

not 100% sure over Meite simply because I havent seen much of him really, im biting my nails over this Carson deal and hope it will be complete in the next 2 days, I would love to have him wearing a baggies shirt. maybe its time we opened up our wallets at albion if any obstacles involve wages, bonuses etc.
we should pull out all the stops for carson.
on another note im extremly proud that we are now looking to quality players who are well known also. i look forward to seeing if this saha loan is rumour or substance.

Looks promising on Carson.I still think he’s waiting for other clubs to show interest tho.Heres hoping eh….as for the bloke from Bolton, doesnt seem to me to be TM’s sort of player.

I believe from a good source that the wages we have offered Carson is way below what his agents want and its now up to the player and to see how bad he wants to play rather than sit on his bum or wait for later in the window and somebody to come in and give him more wages than we would offer. So thats gonna be the end of that one then…..unless Carson has a refreshing attitude……so no chance then! ( Hope i am wrong!) Its the old wages cap issue again.
Meite sounds interesting. Hull wanted him on a free and when SGM said the wanted £3m they said no way. Good first bid of a Million, wouldnt go farther than £1.8 say. Maybe one of our famous add ons transfers again might do it? We certainly need a c/h or 2 badly!!!!

theres no point mate, we’re only allowed 2 premier league loans, with Ronaldo and Berbatov on the way it would use them up……

Meitie has a terrible attitude and is a trouble maker we dont need players like that. I hope the Carson deal goes through because im very disapointed we didn’t go for Tony Warner. I think we should go for Ricardo Fuller and Liam Lawrence because its the only way we will beat the clay heads next season.

Us gooners are getting really worried now…

    13. Is it Meite or Megson with the terrible attitude, its not like Gary to fall out with anyone is it. I think the clayheads are the least of our worries next season. As for Tony Warner, you are joking aren’t you?

    14. Where did you come from?

  16. Rob said:

Shut it Wenger boy you will be in for a shock, you will think you are watching Brazil and not the baggies when we come to the Emirites

18.. Your being modest i thought about 8-0 TO THE ARSENAL

Remember u Gonners ARSENAL 5 BOGGIES and Wenger-boys that you got everything to loose. Should you hammer us 4-0 we will still have had a good day out. So after all maby you ARE a bit nervous. Your players would have been given high five to each others when they knew the draw, and this is what could cause you problems. On another note, should you winn its good in that respect that I hate Man U ;-)
