Albion to smash record for Carson

carson1.jpgAlbion are ready to smash their transfer record to land Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson in a £4m deal.

The Baggies were today closing in on both Carson and Marek Cech as transfer activity hotted up at their Dutch training camp.

Albion are thought to have edged ahead of rivals Stoke in the race to sign England goalkeeper Carson, although both clubs have agreed a fee and opened talks with the 22-year-old England international.

The deal to bring Slovakia international Cech to The Hawthorns is even closer, after three days of positive talks between the Baggies and the player.

Carson is believed to favour a move to The Hawthorns over the Britannia Stadium, with the only potential obstacle to the deal being unconfirmed reports that Middlesbrough are preparing their own bid.

The proposed £4m transfer fee would beat the current record of £3.6m the Baggies paid Cardiff for Robert Earnshaw.

Liverpool are now ready to accept a cut-price deal for the former Leeds trainee, who is way out of the first-team picture at Anfield.

Several Premier League clubs were keen on handing him a chance to rebuild his career on another season-long loan but the Reds are keen to cut their losses and let him leave permanently in a cash deal.

Initially they were holding out for as much as £8m for the keeper but his infamous England error against Croatia, along with a subsequent loss of form at Villa, have forced them to accept the asking price must be reduced.

Hurry up and seal the carson and cech deal. I hate us being linked with good players getting excited at a sign of ambition then loosing out at last minute. If we dont get carson who we going to get? Plus it would be nice to think the new signings cud benefit from pre season training wiv out new fitness coach so all the lads are up for the 1st game.

He isn’t a patch on Hennessey and should never of played for England against Croatia. Seen him make a load of mistakes for the Villa too.

Are Middlesborough that 11th hour bid we were talking about Bomber, I’m personally still not optimistic it’s going to happen.

He’s better than Kiely but to me he’s one of those keepers who is prone to a real calamity and quite often. Is this a case of not been able to attract anyone else?

  9. Cyril Randle said:

He’s the right age to come good again, the basic ability must have been there in bucket loads for him to progress to the England team so young. So, if it’s confidence he’s short of, our management team will provide it. Bring him in. (Coax him to have a shave too, he looks a bit wild like that).

  10. Dazman said:

On paper, its a good signing, but what happens to Kiely. After getting you promoted, he won’t b happy to sit on the bench after playing so well and the fact he has only got 1 or 2 years left at the top. Maybe Kiely will go to Stoke?

  11. Lee Ballinger said:

I cant see why people arnt excited about getting carson. He’s only 22, played for england and has plenty of premiership experience. Were not a top premiership team yet and to get a goal keeper of his calibre is a great prospect for us as a club. He is still learning and must have a certain ammount of talent to have played for england. I would love to see him on our team sheet and would feel confident with him. Confidence wise he will gain that under TM and Grant. I dont see who we think we can get better than him or even the logic of us not wanting him and sticking with what we have got. Who knows he may help keep us up, find his form and once again become Englands number one and he will be at west brom and we got him at a cheap price. Could be worth 10 mill by end of seaason if he wanted to go.

Carsons a quality keeper, just lost his way a bit in recent times but is a serious contender as future England keeper, I for one really hope we get him, but until the signiture is on the contract….

My god that was 1 almighty cock up but what about the save the other end??!!

Irrelevant really so lets just get him in and time will tell….

It is wonderful to see all the bitter Dingles comments !! Lets put it this way, has anybody put in an official bid for Hennessey?? No don’t think so… & don’t come up with “he is under contract & not for sale…” Wolves would take a good offer if it was made because they have no suger daddy anymore !!

Prediction - WBA get point out of first Prem game & at end of season finish 16th comfortably..

Guys David James has had his critics but has come good again to be Englands current number 1. Carson can do the same. When Forest got promoted Clough signed the best keeper available and we all know what happened there. Good teams are built from the back I just hope the names mentioned actually sign.

  16. Lee Ballinger said:

In relation to your prediction burfmiester ive got a tenna on us beating arsenal. 11/1 odds. Chances are we will loose but its worth a go. I have a good feeling. 1-0 baggies. penalty. Duno who will take it tho.

Mowbray / Grant / Venus & Deno are the head doctors….. They would get Carson in gear & in form.

Tellin you all my Baggies commrads WE ARE STAYING UP !!

Bring on Cech aswell. One quality find from Porto

Stoke, Hull & Fulham to go….

    Wakeybaggie 15 is right

if he’s only 22 then he will be a great buy. Goalkeepers make less mistakes as they get older. Their peak is around 28/32. Look at James at Portsmouth - he wqas prone to clangers but was named the PFA premiership team for last season and he was worth a doezen points for them.

Things seem to be going very slowly at tesco town. You may be following the ‘Mowbary Way’ but shouldn’t he get into third gear at least?

I’ve got £20 on you lot staying up so don’t let me down chaps.

  23. Nedball said:

18 - He took a cracking pen against Holland in the under 21 tournament last year.

I do have slight doubts about Carson, as I mentioned yesterday he doesn’t see to command his box enough for me, which was Kielys’ major flaw.

However, he is an improvement on what we currently have, and AGAIN, this is an area that needs strengthening, in a squad that needs strengthening, so it would be excellent business!!

If he goes to Stoke instead of the Albion I’d start to ask questions.

Bomber / Tony let’s hope you’re right and Boro don’t manage to hijack this.

  24. Alfred Miller said:

    17. Its from mistakes that you learn. No one is perfect, every goalkeeper makes blunders, ask each and every one of them and they’ll all laugh out to their stories … so please dont start judjing a guy who havent even signed for us yet.

  26. Great_Barr Baggie said:

I don’t think that everyone realises that had Carson not made that one error for England, he’d probably be the England number 1 right now with a number of top clubs after him. Don’t judge a player on one mistake.

The same goes for Luke Moore. So many fans have already judged him after making one mistake. These 2 players with international calibre could be our best next season given the right support.

  27. Burfmiester said:

    in reply to dazman

Mowbray is building for the future. Carson would benefit from having the experienced Kiely as would Danek.

For my money Carson & Danek would be the next 5 years duo for the baggies. Danek has alot of natural ability & to be far has come from the same stock as Petr Cech….. Not bad eh !!

Anyway nowt will be as bad as Zubahowler !!

  29. Doghouse Dave said:

obviously a keeper with loads of talent in need of a bit of mowbray TLC. Good buy if we can get him.All three keepers would be told to earn their place so no problem with Keily or Danek.
our friends from molyneux have got so used to knocking supermicks signings that they cant help but have a go at ours.

I hope Cech signs and it looks like the back line is getting a complete overhaul,As required.

How can any real Albion Fans see a potential signing of Scott Carson as anything but out of this world? This smells of Albion fans who have only jumped on the premiership success of the last 5 or 6 seasons. An England international who is only 22? have you lot gone mad and forgotten where we have come from. Tony Lange, Paul Chrichton, Chris Adamson, Paul Bradshaw need I go on? Some of you need a reality check if we did manage to fight off any late competition from Middlesborough this would be a major coup, stay off the drugs lads!!!

It is time for the winging baggies to get behind us boinging baggies !!!

We have a future England Manager at the helm. We have in Venus & Granty a proper backroom staff & with Mr Fitness Deano aswell we have the dream team.

I cannot remember feeling so positive going into any season as I do this one. Even if we miss out on a few signings, I feel that the Man Management skills of our dream team can bring the best out of our boys.. & in Teixeira & Do-Heon we have as good as two top class new signings for the new season !!

Need another striker to support Bednar, Moore & Miller as these I feel are the only Prem Class strikers we have. Bednar my tip for double figures….

As for Robbo, He is a legend & it would be sad if he went, but he is not irreplaceable, no one is. This Cech from Porto has the potential to be as good as & as big a Baggie Legend !!!

    Bring on the Gunnars !!!!!

  36. Burfmiester said:

    Reply to Celtic Baggie…

I can agree with you there… Bent & Ameobi are not first team starters but Ameobi may be a good impact player off bench.

As for KP - Thanks goes out to him from all Baggies lovers. Without his input last year we would have struggled to WIN CHAMPIONSHIP (Still love hearing that !!) But there is no room in success for sentiment & Mowbray was correct in offering the 1 year deal with the option to go to 2 years if KP had put in 19 1st team starts.

It is time for us to move on & Mowbray’s army will be ready, will be strong & will have the bite to stay in the premiership

I don’t know about Carson and can only make my mind up if he comes and plays ? Bruce Grobbelaar and Jens Lehmann made many howlers, but also made some superb world class saves. We all have our off days, don’t we.

Did your parents give you the shortest name possible with 1 syllable just to make life that bit easier?

Hennessey is a good Keeper, I can see that, Carson is also a good keeper. I am worried about how he’ll suit our defence, as all crosses will just be left for strikers to run onto, but he is class and a BRILLIANT shot stopper.

Carson’s better than we’ve got, we need to get a new keeper and he fits the bill!

    SIGN HIM UP!!

  44. Burfmiester said:

    Reply to Nedball…

Carson is a little bit jesus at the momment but with an ex centre half as your manager, one of the best of his time, believe me he will come out for crosses….

It will be drummed into his head time after time after time after time UNTIL it becomes 2nd nature & what is even more certain is that when he does come for ball he will catch it & not do the “continental punch” as this just puts pressure straight back onto your defence.

If Carlsberg did managers then Mowbray would be it !!!

    Celtic Baggie.
If Robbo goes, and it is merely paper talk at the moment, how is it JP’s fault. It will be because he decides to go or because TM decides we don’t need him (TM has already said that he doesn’t know where these stories have come from.) Some ‘fans’ seem to have an agenda which twists any negative story to lay it at the chairman’s door. As Tony has already said, without JP we certainly wouldn’t be looking forward to Arsenal, the highlight of our season would be playing the Wolves and Birmingham.
    Romsley.
Excellent post. Over the years we’ve rarely had good keepers (typical that probably our best 2 were Kuscak and Kirkland, who we had at the same time and managed to lose both.) I’d add Jimmy Cumbes to your list, any other offers?

That was a camel you’re thinking of and the good news for you, Mick has just signed said camel as a striker, the final piece of the jigsaw.

yes I knew the original story and just sort - of linked a camel to tescos defence.Everyone else does so why shouldn’t I?

Looks like you’ve lost carson - he could be going to blackburn. i told you mowbary is too slow.

Finally Moses Mick (who is leading us to the promised land) gave up camels long ago so he only buys young, eager and speedy stallions.

E11 Wulf, Enough already!!. I see that you do truly believe in the powers of Moses Mick, the P*ss artist formally known as Osama Bin Had McCarthy. Why not just admit to the coveting of your nearest neighbours premier footie team?. It is the only way you will get better.
