Baggies on the box for opener

A global audience of millions will witness Albion’s re-entry into Premier League football when they make their first ever visit to the Emirates Stadium next month.

The Baggies clash at Arsenal will officially get the new season underway after being snagged by Sky TV for an early kick-off showing on the opening day of the new campaign.

Albion fans now face an earlier departure time to take their seat as the kick-off time has been brought forward to 12.45pm.

Albion’s big derby clash with Villa is another of the games snaffled for TV in the list of live matches revealed by Sky Sports and Setanta yesterday.

The eagerly-awaited visit by Villa to The Hawthorns – for many Albion fans a bigger derby than the Black Country affair – has been put back to Sunday, September 21 for a noon kick off on Sky.

Albion’s trip to double winners Manchester United remains on Saturday, October 18 but goes to Setanta – and has been put back to a later kick off time of 5.30pm.

The same station and kick off time has been set for the game at Liverpool on November 8 while the Hawthorns derby is one of five Villa games taken up by broadcasters.

The home clash with Liverpool has now been switched to Sunday, August 31 for a 4pm kick-off while Setanta have nailed three other Villa games for live screening – none of which will be to the liking of those fans who like to travel.

The visit to Tottenham will now go ahead on Monday, September 15 (8pm) while the Newcastle away game is also now going to a Monday night, November 3, and an 8pm kick-off.

Slightly less inconvenient will be the change for the Manchester United visit to Villa Park on Saturday November 22, which goes back to a 5.30pm kick-off for another Setanta screening.

    They are expecting goals.
Seriosly one thing were not jealous of is the inconvienience of kick off times.
Football is for saturday at 3pm.
At Wolves, being a bigger club, our army of fans around the country would really struggle to make these times due to trains etc.

Albion v Villa, `bigger derby than the black country clash`. Sounds strange but its very true, I was always bought up to believe it was the big one, lost its edge a little when we were stuck in the 2nd tier for 16 years but glad its back, bring it on !!
The black country one is great but for me and thousands of others this is the derby.

It`s great that we can all watch our return to the big time.

Another point I would like to make is why are a lot of people who post on here claiming to be loyal Baggies so obsessed with the dingles? Forget them and concentrate on our traditional rivals villa.

a game full of free flowing attacking football, can’t wait :)

There will be more goals in this game than in the rest of the opening day fixtures, that is why it has been selected.

And they won’t be scored by Albion…

Remind me.What happened the last time you had an early kick off in London.Oh yes,you lost the semi final and were back in Smethwick at 4 o’clock crying your eyes up.Sky have chosen this game to highlight the diference between a top class side and the Baggies and they know we’ll see plenty of goals.

The first 20 minutes will be absolutely crucial. Our players could start like kids in a Christmas Store, all eyes and no action, whereas Wenger will have ordered his troops to attack from all directions. We shall need to settle quickly and then we can give them a game. NOT a game for new or inexperienced players in my view, unless the ‘new’ player is a seasoned International or plenty of Prem. experience. A fair number of our team have experienced Wembley and no one froze there. We have to play them sometime, so why not at the beginning? TM, fit only Duracell batteries and change them at half time. Hang the cost. We’re going to cover some ground in this one!

optimistic wolf : Yeah right, but we are entitled to play the likes of Arsenal, cos we are in The Premiership remember. Lol

Totally see your point. Your ‘bigger club and it’s army of fans’ would much rather be travelling to Plymouth at 3 o’clock than Arsenal at 12-45, dur, well at least the ones who live in Devon. Never mind. No parachute money, low season ticket sales and now a chairman whose company is in financial difficulties, laying off workers. All the extra games you have to play IE Accrington Stanley should come in useful.

I’ll be delaying my much needed beauty sleep in sunny Brisbane to see these stripey jokers hammered out of sight. Might be a great night out for the Queensland Wolves… and the two tesco bags that sometimes cling on to us for some mateship.

Headlining the opening day… How come they haven’t opted for that MASSIVE game at home park??? lol…

  23. upthewolves said:

all this talk being jealous is a bit wide of the mark, yes of course us wolves fans wish we was playing arsenal on the opening day instead of plymouth away thats a no brainer.

however some of you baggies are getting way above your station in expetations. Yes you play good football but you are in the prem now so most teams in the prem play good football. swindon went up playing sexy football and they got there arses smaked most weekends as did barnsley.

i wish you well but in all honesty you are in for a tough time and you will soon realise its no fun after the opening day when i predict arsenal to put at least 5 past you.

that comment is based on the difference in quality between you lot and arsenal and i am not interested in winding you lot up.

Sit back and enjoy the game, after all its only a game, win or lose as long as the players enjoy the experience of being in the big time,
