Wantaway Seyi out in cold

seyi.jpgWantaway midfielder Seyi Olofinjana is set for an extended exile from Wolves’ plans.

The transfer-listed Nigerian international has been told not to return to training until July 21, after being given time off following taking part in four World Cup qualifying squads in June.

By the time he returns, his Wolves team-mates will be a day into their pre-season tour of Scotland – and three weeks ahead of him in their preparations.

Boss Mick McCarthy states the 28-year-old may not join the squad north of the border as speculation continues on his future.

He said: “Seyi’s not back yet, I think he’s due back on July 21 after we’ve gone to Scotland.

“He’s just played continuously around the clock. He’s just had constant football for the last two years.

“I’ve spoken to him this week and unless anything happens he’ll be back in on the 21st.

“I’m not sure if he’ll get up to Scotland at all, because he’ll have to come in and be assessed first.”

McCarthy insists he would love to have kept Olofinjana, who he feels is ready-made for the Premier League.

He said: “It was always in the offing that he’d be made available for transfer.

“I was really desperate to extend his contract last season to keep him from going out of contract, with a view to being in the promotion shake-up.

“If we had got promoted then Seyi would have been a Premier League player.

“There was always that understanding between us that if we didn’t go up this would happen.

“I’d love to keep Seyi but he wants to play in the Premier League.

“We’ve had a few people asking about him but nobody’s made an offer for him yet.”

McCarthy is unlikely to call on Olofinjana again, but is unconcerned about his fitness levels.

He said: “He’s a remarkably fit guy in any case, he looks after himself, but the other lads will be three weeks into their training.”

“Although he’ll have had three weeks off I doubt he’ll have it all off – he’ll have been doing his bit, but he needs this time to recover.”

Think the E&S are making more into this than it seems. It’s normal for international players to take an extra rest.

i think seyi is goinbg to find it hard to get a move to prem… Hull were interested but they signed boatang… who i think is better midfielder for only 1/2 million..

another one sitting around earning lots for doing f… all? we have a lot of average players at the club that no one wants… or are not willing to pay what we want..

need to trim the squad big time….

“If we had got promoted then Seyi would have been a Premier League player” comments like that make muppet mick stand out above the rest.

3 - It’s comments like that that make give these boards a bad name. I think you’ll find that Mick was saying that he believes that Seyi could make the step up. It’s not that hard to see, just don’t be looking for any possible oppurtunity to take a swipe at Mick.

George wants out, so why should the club continue his development anyway? All of these things cost money, and ultimately he does not want to wear the shirt any more. I have no problem with him being out in the cold - he put himself there.

He’s over-rated. If we manage to off-load him to a prem club for 3 mill or so it’ll be a good piece of business

    Agree with 4.
But I think this is express and star trying to make a story out of nothing because it doesn’t actually say that George is frozen out, just rested after playing too much football.
On another note, I’m glad Freddy has finally gone, hopefully we can put this behind us and move on

I agree with #4 as well. Too many idiotic comments on these boards ‘muppet out’, Moxley pie eater and slating our own players.

    Grow up.

5 - of course they’re going to make sure he gets fit and such… a team are going to be less likely to make an offer for him if he hasn’t even trained for 5 weeks or so. What a stupid coment.

definately agree with 4… abit of sense and not coming up with 27 when adding 2 and 2.

If Oly goes for ..say two million and we got the full 1.5 million for Eastwood then a few quality players will come under the radar. I think we need another creative midfielder. But then again davies is playing now so who knows.

It’s good to see the ‘nuggets’ being told where to get off on these pages. We should all be positive and encouraging. Calling the manager ‘mad’ or a ‘muppet’ is pathetic.

Some of the comments here, leave me gobsmacked at times.Seyi wants to test himself at the highest level after 4 years with wolves in the championship.Lets face it we havent been good enough to get there ourselves. So why should he continue to stay? Its nothing to do with not wanting to wear the shirt its about ambition to be the best player you can be.I think in a squad of higher skilled players he should do well like Lescott has.He needs to be careful of which team to join and avoid teams who will really struggle like Hull and go to a more established team.
Lets hope we join him up there after this season

Turnip head is quoted as saying “If we had got promoted then Seyi would have been a Premier League player”. Wow, what intellect!

Why are we making fools of ourselves by employing this idiot as our manager?

Why have we condemned ourselves to another year in the Championship by retaining this turnip head as manager?

We could have had Paul Ince, the Guv’nor. Now the club management stands condemned of having failed the club totally. Another 2 years of Championship ahead of us!

    MM&M OUT!
