Kevin Phillips has hit out at Albion after joining Birmingham on a free.
He has signed a two-year deal at St Andrew’s after turning down an initial 12-month deal to stay put.
Albion boss Tony Mowbray revealed Phillips would have had to play only 19 games, including substitute appearances, to activate a second year’s contract.
Phillips said: “West Brom were only prepared to offer me a year’s contract.
“They said a lot about how highly they rated me, but they didn’t rate me as highly as Birmingham do.
“Birmingham have come in and there were no problems in doing a deal.
“For me it was a no-brainer, plus it’s a chance, I hope, to be playing regular football.
“At West Brom, I’d have probably been a sub a lot.”

Only gone to Blues so he can haunt the Wolves again next season.
I cannot believe we let him go.This is TM and JP worst decision ever.I would rather have KP in the team for 25 mins than Luke Moore for 90.
Bad day for us Baggies hope we don’t live to regret it.
Does anyone really expect him to say anything else ?
“They said a lot about how highly they rated me, but they didn’t rate me as highly as Birmingham do.
Replace the word ” rate ” with ” pay ” and you get a better picture.
He’s got his pension so good luck to him.I’m not interested anymore.
I’m just interested in WBA.
Bring on the 16th !
Hardly hitting out, just stating facts.
the comment anout not playing is fair enough, but seriously, the comment “they didn’t rate me as highly as birmingham do” is nonsense. it was a fair deal, and was a motivational offer as well, the guy just didn’t back himself to be up to it.
Why does KP insist on saying we only offered him a one year contract when its not true ?
The second year was there and he only had to feature in 19 games to activate it…. he obviously didn’t feel confident of doing that.
Anyway, its water under the bridge - good luck to him in the CCC…. maybe he will watch us playing at Old trafford, Villa Park and Stamford Bridge next season and think….”if only….”
Well said H_B (6) the guy just did not feel confident enough in being able to deliver regularly in the Prem (19 Games). Although he will surely be missed I applaud the club for making a stand and sticking to their guns.
Personally I wish he had stayed because he has that irritating habit of scoring against us and now has more opportunities to do so
Usual E&S spin on a West Brom story. As Cilla would say Surprise, Surprise.
Kev, it was a no brainer for JP & TM as well. As you say “I’d have probably been sub a lot”, but it would have been in the prem!.
Sorry to see you go but it looks like the right decision was made all round. Good luck at the Bluenoses, we will give you a standing ovation next year when we play you (in the prem of course!).
I think the club played this one correctly. although he was class in the CCC last season he will be 35 soon and the prem is a diffrent kettle of fish. I dont think Kev would have hit the 19 games in the prem this season espeically as he is only one injury away from end of career. Lets build for the bright future… good luck to him a Blues he is a top professional and will fire the goals in at that level.
Good luck SKP.
However, whilst wishing you the best for next season (and next season only), I can’t help but be left with a bitter taste in the mouth as to the way you/agent have conducted yourself in this matter. Letting things drag on, hawking your services around for a higher bidder, giving your fans false hope on staying, hedging your bets in doing so and then , finally, succumbing to the filthy lucre on offer from the porn pros. Your exalted status at the Hawthorns has been tarnished and with your moving on a little of the sparkle has gone from your contribution to the cause.
If the terms of the contract on offer were as described by the official site, then it saddens me to think that you were unable to convince yourself that you would have earned the second year as a right. How could you demand that the club make a firm commitment to 2 years, when clearly you doubted your own ability to fulfill the obligations
Good luck (S?)KP.
HAPPY BOGGIE…you was one of them saying theres only one kevin phillips your such a shmuck good look to him hes gone to a better team how you run players down when they leave your team shame on you
london wolf;bang on comment, good luck to KP COME ON YOU BAGGIES!!!
Another player leaving the albion unhappy at looking after their best players, poor, small club, i hope you enjoy the premiership but derby fans got sick of it after a while and im sure you will too as you will have a similar fate
11 - very well said… totally agree with all your points.
12 - you are a moron who obviously can’t read.
G&B (12) If he’s gone to a better team why does even KP think that he’ll play more for them. If they have a better team he wouldn’t get in surely.
Of course Blues rate him higher than us. He’ll be a much bigger player in the CCC than the Prem and will therefore be much more important to Blues season than ours. What he means is “I’ll have a much bigger part to play at Blues than Albion, I’ll play more games and they gave me a nice signing on fee”.
To be fair, respect to the guy for wanting to play football weekly instead of warming the bench and taking his money (Hartson anyone?). At least it is sorted out quite early on and not dragged on until the end of August when we haven’t the time to replace him. Now his wages are freed up we can go out and look for a player who will play a bigger part than KP would’ve this season.
‘Phillips hits out at Baggies’
Erm….where?!
It seems more like the headline should be:
‘Phillips realises he’s not going to play much so decides to move to Blues for more first team action and more security.’
i wish people would stop writing off Luke Moore. He will score goals in the Premiership, more than Phillips would. Moore will be one of our key players next year, it’s a shame people get on his back just because he’s ex villa. Well you lot can go up the wolves next year, we dont want you.
On another note (as i am bored with the KP stories).
Albion are reportedly trying to sign Dorian Goian, Romanian Centre Half, plays for Steau Bucharest. Aged 27, his club want £3million.
No, no no… kev no need!
Footballers ay, it would’ve been diff had we not gone up and a prem club come knocking!
We did want you we offered two yr deal!!!
Good luck anyway.
Gold&Black
at least we wait until they’ve left our club before we have a go at them!!!
“No Longer Super” Kev will score goals again next year but I’m disappointed he chose not to back his own ability!!
Seen we are linked with Everton’s James Vaughn or Blackburn’s Matt Derbyshire? Wouldn’t mind either of those as replacements!!
Also linked with a move for the Romanian centre half Dorian Goian from Steaua Bucharest!! Exactly what we need IMO!!
keep off luke moores back lets get behind em all !!!
Another Express & Dingle sensational headline. I heard the interview he gave to Radio WM this morning and he was quite gracious about his time with the Albion. Another non story. Good luck Kev you did a great job for us, now we move on.
He was great while he was here and he’s blown his last shot at the prem! If blues get promoted next year, which i imagine they will they will sell him to another Championship club. They have only given him 2 years so they can make some money on him next year. He’ll rattle in goals for another 2-3 years in the championship. Great football brain, the body is just starting to fail a little!
This in my eyes was good sense by TM and JP, they didnt want another John Hartson sitting on the bench wasting money! That money could be better spent elsewhere! It was TM, JP and the “TEAM” who took us to promotion not just Kevin Phillips. Hope he gets Blues promoted and has another 25 goals to his name, he deserves it! Best of Luck Kev!!
I’m still trying to work out which bit of that constitutes ‘hitting out’.
express and star sad jouralism ..AGAIN…no wonder i have stopped buying this rag !
i wonder if birmingham had of rated you so highly if they hadent got relegated, kev tomo obviously dident think you where prem class so just move on theres a good boy,aye boing boing
If he’d stayed he could have had a hangover season or, as TM and JP clearly saw it, there was always a chance of the veteran getting injured. Hence the 19 game second year clause. That’s now Birmingham’s problem. What will be interesting is who TM will bring in to do the job that KP did for us last year. I just breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that Sticks (oh no that’s what the Seals used to call the other lanky bloke Ormandroyd) had fallen in love with ‘arry.
Laughing wolf (sorry shouldn`t that be shadrack), really sorry youre not in the prem mate, but fact is youre NOT, so get over it, its not a bad dream its true, yes youre club has failed yet again.
However please, please, keep all your comments coming - it reminds all baggies fans just how jealous you are. Its absolutely eating you up inside isn`t it matey. Very amusing I must admit.
Roll on the 16th, got my tickets for the emirates, you beauty!!!!!
gold&black
Did you seriously just slate us for knocking our players?! The words pot, kettle and black come to mind reading a post like that off a dingle fan!
the very last sentence “I would have probably been sub alot”
Its not about how they rated him its fact he would not have played to many games there is no room for sentiment in the club.
If KP had believed in his own ability he would have stayed and tried to play that well he could not possibly be dropped but he knew he would not be able to do it.
KP you sould have been in politics with that sort of spin.
anyway onwards and upwards
So our 3 want away players have all gone to Blues derby and fulham says it all they have no ambition money talks good riddance I say.Yes KP may still get goals but he will be the main striker at Blues and be playing far more. His agent knows he will more than likely not be playing too much in the 2nd year so has taken the money.
How quickly they turn!
14. Another gem from laughingwulf.
Ask yourself this o laughing one, is it better to be a poor, small premiership club or a poor, small chumpionship team?. Still laughing?.So am I,LOL.
ROCKY - How’ve you got your tickets? I haven’t seen anything anywhere about them going on sale yet?!
I’ve got my away season ticket, but haven’t heard anything……have I spent too much time reading posts by Shadrag and gone a bit mental?!
You can read different spins on this interveveiw all over the web, take some veiws with a pinch of salt.We are are going to have a fantastic season so the dingles can say what they like because WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE.

hang ugli wolf!!!
hi nedball, i`m a season ticket holder and got a couple reserved thru a contact in the ticket office as i go on holiday tomorrow and will probably be still away on the release date whenever that is.
supposed to be the best viewing stadium in the prem, padded seats etc,, i shall sit back and watch us entertain the north london public
Has anyone even thought about what if he helps get Blues promoted this coming season?? If he doesn’t rate himself highly enough to play for us in the Prem this year surely he will rate himself even less a year on??
Will he then be touting himself for 1 more year in the CCC??
I wish him all the best and hope its as fruitful for him and Blues as it has been the last 2 years for us! Personally though I cant help but feel 1 yr in the Prem would of been a better option and he would of easily gained the 19 games (half a season) required for the 2nd year!!
Good Luck KP - You will always be a legend up the Hawthorns for always scoring past the Wolves if nothing else!!
kp has his final pay off
hes not to sing albions praises after signing for blues now is he
its history now time to move on
come on you baggies
40.. I agree . I still think KP is a good player and good luck to him at his new club.
I honestly believe that deep down he knows he would not be able to cope with the prem.
Lets face it if West Brom had really wanted to keep him they would have just offered the contract he wanted. But sentiment aside we all know KP would not be prolific in the Prem.
Luke Moore will be a hit next season mark my words
I’m not so sure he will be so prolific next year. he had a good team around him at Tesco’s and he didn’t have the pressure to score all the time because everyone including the tea lady seemed to be able to get a goal for you.
I think he’ll find things a lot harder next year. I would back him NOT to score against us because I think the Wolves players are sick of him and will act accordingly.
I thought his deal was very fair and he would have done a good job for you but time to move on. If I don’t read about Philips or Eastwood or Olyfanyana again it will be too soon.
Misleading headline here I’m afrid. Bit sloppy from E & S
ROCKY - I thought I’d missed out there and was about to kick myself and my mates for not already having got our tickets!! Enjoy your holiday! According to Shadrag, Bulgaria’s the place to be, plus if you ask him nicely he’ll make you a 380% return on your money…..what a bloke?!
38 - Bomber - give yourself a pat aon the back for that effort! Excellent work!!
Apparently according to sky sports Dorian Goian is going to sunderland
43 E11.
Are you sure you’re a Wolf? Much too clear sighted and fair minded.
We don’t need lessons from Dingles on “turning”, you lot do it during mstches. One Season Wanderers - new vision: to emulate the Baggies!
KP says his move was a “no brainer”, yeah.
Okay, let me consider KP’s logic. TM says he’s likely to be on sub bench.
My logic. What happens if week after week he comes on and shines? Two possibilities - the sub role works or TM gives him more time. Either way, win, win - football is a team game.
KP logic - Blues promise regular starts
My logic - Villa Park career…
43 Couldn’t agree more, sick of hearing their agents trying to drum up the most lucrative deal.
Yes I know it’s their job but listening to the statements that come out just makes me pine for the Bob Taylor, Jeff Astle, John Wile, Ally Brown, Ally Rob, Ronny Allen, Derek Kevan, Ray Barlow, Bobby Hope eras. Or in your case E11 the Doug, Bully etc.
Can I just say… I saw luke moore play twice last year… Once for the England U21 and the other for Villa against Everton and he looked superb…
Number 44. Yes misleading. What do you expect? At least the grammar is correct this time.
E11 ,steady son you nearly turned blue and white strips then with your comment,,but i take my hat off to ya,as you are correct…well said.SCORING MORE GOALS WITHOUT PHILLIPS,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOOOOOH YES…………..GOOD LUCK KEV..
50 Bojangles.
Why don’t you and E11 come and join us. You’d be most welcome.
Good on ya Supa Kev! You did us proud the last 2 years. However, its time for us to move onwards & upwards, we need youth, pace and prem quality. I think Luke Moore will suprise us this season and do a job…. 7 or 8 goals at least!Well done Mogga and Peace you got this one right! Now go get another 10 goal striker to replace him. Boing Boing all the way to to Europe.. Wolves? Great Speedway riders…
Is it just me or are most things dragging on this season!!!! When are the new shirt sponsors unveiled???Anyone know.
Would be interesting to know what sort of signing fee Blues paid?
Not really KP hitting out though, but just for future reference Kev keep your mouth shut as you could very quickly lose the respect of the fans who worshipped the ground you walked on!!
Ive been thinking about our starting 11 for the
ARSENAL game, and this is what ive come up with.
I would play 3 at the back and just go for it.

laughingwolf: West Brom - poor, small club??? You make me laugh. Four seasons in the Premier League, all that Premier money, you are just bitter because you know West Brom is the bigger club in the Premier League. If we really wanted Phillips, he would of had a two year contract. Good luck in the CCC. Lol!!!
end of the day KP has left for a chance of playing more football for longer and earning more money, yh he has propbly missed out on a final year in the prem as he is riding on the chance of not gettin a serious injury and blues going up, all i can say is “thank you kevin phillips” with out him we wouldnt have gone up as easy as we did as he scored many last minute winnin goals, so thank you for making us prem baggies once agen, gd luck
There’s no doubt that KP made a big contribution to Albion over the last couple of years, but I think part of the problem is ego. When he came to the Baggies he told everyone to call him ‘SuperKev’(look at my reputation-Premier goalscorer and England International!),so when he didn’t get the deal he wanted,it probably hurt his pride.Sorry Kev,but the last ageing ‘Superstar’,Hartson (ha-ha),cost the club a packet with his secure contract.Peace didn’t want another player getting a million for warming the bench.Surely makes sense.
Looks like KP took the easy way out, only had to appear in 19 games to get a 2nd year, clearly he was not confident in his own ability.
FROM HERO TO ZERO!
fraizer campbell? not at hull, where is he now could be good.
57 Andrew.
It’s a matter of opinion but I think that if we fielded that team the score would be the one LW is predicting. To play three at the back requires three out and out defenders with the full backs playing as wingers. We can still have a go but better in a style that
suits us.
62 Band.
Have to agree, if he was one of your players he would be treated like this, as he is by our fans who believe the E&S headlines rather than read the true interview. To most Baggies he’s a player who’s been great for us, seen out his contract and moved on. HERO TO EX HERO.
50 The real Bully
Thanks for the offer but on this and every other occasion I’ll pass.
I’m looking forward to Wolves kicking your backsides but only in the Premiership….
Lets all support MIDLANDS football even if some of you still do not acknowledge the future is good, the future is Black and Gold. Given time you’ll come around… (chuckle)
lets face it, kevin is a superb player in the championship. i loved watching him last season but he at most can play 60 minutes and in the premier league we are gonna need a player who can last longer if we want to survive.

Really wish he had come to us.Has been a great servant to you boys. Nonsense headline to attract readers I suppose.Just hope our reconstructed defence can cope with him this season. Seems to be sensible business by Brum, Baggies and KP. Good luck for the season, Baggies.
Just another Mercenary.
can’t blame a footballer for securing his financial future. He’s only 36 and now he’s probably retired from the world of employment…I’m not jealous honest.
