So Super Kev has given us the blues, the king is dead, long live the king, writes Albion blogger Jarrod Hill.
So let’s move on and see who we could be looking to sign to spearhead our attack on the Premiership.
I presume we will be looking to sign at least two new strikers before the transfer window closes, below I have detailed some information on both Premiership strikers who will probably be on the move this summer and a handful of European strikers who are rumoured to be looking to move to England.
Let’s start with the European strikers:
Marcus Berg, Swedish 21 year old currently playing in the Dutch top flight for FC Groningen. Scored 17 goals in 26 appearances last season and rumour has it wants to try his luck in the Premiership.
Stanislav Sestak, Slovakian currently playing for VFL Bochum in the Bundesliga, aged 26, scored 13 league goals last season. Rumoured to be unhappy and looking to leave.
Bafetimbi Gomis, 22 year old Frenchman. Currently plays for St Etienne and his 16 league goals last season in 34 appearances have alerted many clubs to his talent. Already linked to a number of Premiership sides including Newcastle.
Other strikers closer to home (within the Premiership) probably on the move this summer include:
Nicklas Bendtner Arsenal aged 20
Shaun Maloney A Villa aged 25
Scott Sinclair Chelsea aged 19
James Vaughan Everton aged 19
David Nugent Portsmouth aged 23
Michael Chopra Sunderland aged 24
Two strikers come to mind who I would be willing to chase if I were Tony Mowbray.
Kris Boyd Rangers aged 24.
51 goals in 77 appearances for Rangers.
7 goals in 14 appearances for Scotland.
2nd highest ever goal scorer in the SPL with 114 goals.
Matt Derbyshire Blackburn aged 22
Has a new manager in Paul Ince, has impressed me whenever I have seen him play. Is not guaranteed first team football may look to move on, either permanently or on loan.
One last message of good luck to Kevin Phillips, I hope your replacement is as successful.

Thanks for that Jarrod. They all sound great, any two of those please. I don’t really preach that optimism. How much are they and are their wages less than Super. I am also not convinced TM will get 2 before the next transfer window!
Morning Jarrod, what a list!! Would have to agree that i’dlove to see Boyd have a crack, i’m a firm believer that strikers are confidence driven more than anything at all, so obviously he’s on a run at the mo. We may allbe very surprised at Luke Moore this year, he’ll have a full pre season under his belt, and with T.M.’s help and support i’m expecting big things from him. Anyway have a great weekend, lets see who’s here by Monday.
GOOD MORNING big club premier league fans aye boing boing
how about freddie eastwood hes sposed to be dead good aye boing boing WE WANT FEDDIE WE WANT FREDDIE
What a huge void to fill, the departure of super kev! I think we need one of the strikers to have premiership experience because we lack that with our current bunch. I’d love to see Bentner come from arsenal but think our only chance of getting him would be on loan. As mentioned, Chopra and Nugent, but are they any better than what we’ve got? I think Mowbrey would be tempted by Kris Boyd but I hear his asking price would be around £5m which could be a problem as we still need several other new players - central defenders etc. Bringing in a striker from europe probably will be his option, but lets hope they adapt to the premiership better than shevchenco of chelsea! Interesting times!
You are going to need a striker better than Phillips to score the goals you need to have a chance of staying up and they don’t come cheap…….Theres always Eastwood or Bothroyd, they fall within your budget lol.
Matt Derbyshire is a great shout. He has looked an intelligent, talented player who would fit in with our style of play. Would see him linked with Miller very effectively.
Loffin
Joking aside, i`m sure ToMo would get some goals and better performances out of Freddy than
“merlin mick” did.
Luke Moore bagged 2 goals last night, he’ll do the business.
Also our Sherjill scored twice aswell… hmmmmm…..
Wishful, but good blog i think Jarrod. I like the list, and the 2 names that jump out for me (besides the usual Kris Boyd link) are Derbyshire and Sinclair. They are both raw talent that is just waiting for the Mowbray makeover!!
Mowbray has mentioned before that he wants pace on the wings. With big Phil bringing in a mass of midfielders, Sinclair won’t get a chance. He is one of the most under-rated players and had he been playing regular Premiership football i honestly think he would have been in the England set-up by now. Go get him Mogga!!
you have to look at the merry go round and i would like babel from liverpool on loan if they were to sign keane, also totenham have ghadi!both have prem experience and would be affordable interestig times…what will tm do in him we trust,on another note megson has spent 30million on unknowns how long will he be given to see if they gell!!!
I know i am going to get shot down for this, but i wouldnt mind seeing Sherjil get a chance at right midfield. His pace and ability to go past a player would be interesting!!
On the odd occassion he came of the bench and played there last season i liked what i saw.
Tin hat on, im ready!!
Yeah he scored playin against our own youths lol.
Apparentley the second one was a cracker!
Also, Dorrans looked good
Derbyshire - no chance! P.Ince will love him..
I still think Nugent will cut it and with Crouch on his way to Pompey to partner Defoe, he ain’t staying there!!
I think Bednar Moore with miller as back up will be ok, don’t forget we’ll get goals from midfield too so think we only need 15 goals from 1 striker!.. 15 A!!!
12. - Totally agree Bomber. I had so many arguments with other people about this. His ability to go around a player is priceless. I do worry about his defencive work though. Definately worth a chance, especially if we opt for the 4-5-1 with Bednar up front on occasions!
On another note is it today the new sponsor is announced??
The shirts are due out in two weeks time!!
12,wba, was yow out on the pop last night aye boing boing
bendtner and derbyshire would be the two strikers
i would go for
both are young keen and most have all have both scored premiership goals
maybe 1 of them permanent and 1 on loan
its possible.
last night mcdonald, moore and the bart man all bagged a brace.
come on you baggies
I do only think that we need 1 more striker though!
Some of our fans are so gullible! How do you expect us to attract Prem quality players.
Gera, Phillips and Alby have all left the club due to our board being unwilling to pay a little extra cash.
The how often would they play or contract length is just a load of spin.
Let`s be realistic and hope that when we are relegated, the parachute payments will go to new owners and not Peace.
Before you decide to come back with replies saying we will stay up we are better than Wigan, Fulham etc. look at what they are investing and remember they already have a fair share of Prem class players.
Bendtner won’t be going anywhere because Arsenal are selling Adebayor. Sinclair would be a good aquisition - what about Routledge on loan from Villa also?
I firmly beleive we need another two strikers, i think Beattie will either be on his way or he just isnt good enough for the prem anyway.
Bart will go out on loan or again not ready.
Sherjil looks more suited to midfield and agian not sure whether he is ready for the prem.
That leaves Miller, Beds, Moore, at the moment, and remember in a season were we can have seven subs. Subs would probably include Keeper, two def, two mids, and two strikers. With injuries and suspensions i think we defo need another two strikers.
James Beattie anyone?
I think sherjil is a great shout, and i dont believe T.M. has brought him in just to make up the numbers. along with great barr, we watched him put some jinxing runs in last season and im sure he has more to offer.Morning great Barr, how are you, good night last week lol
dudleybaggie
Lets all give up now then and go back to the championship, im glad you do not have anything to do with our coaching staff!!
I take it you do not go to games then??
Or are you a Wolf in stripey clothing??
I understand fans fear of the Premiership, and yes there is a very strong possibility of us getting relegated, however i cannot ever remember having so much trust in a manager as i have in Mowbray. Yes players have left us, but just look at what Mowbray has acheived in a relatively short amount of time. The players he has unearthered and the players he has improved has proven his credentials as one of the brightest managers in the game, i have a greater fear of losing him than i do of us playing in the Premiership.
24. Mowbray describes him as a special talent. But he also said his confidence was shattered after the middlesborough incident! He needs another loan spell or a good preseason
ste calloway
I like James Beattie, but Sheff Utd are apparently holding out for 5-6million for him and at that price i would take my money elsewhere.
2-3 million maybe.
I see we have been linked to Marcus Bent from Charlton, ok player and was Wigans top scorer last season, but in my opinion is too similar to what we have, and lets face it now we have been linked we wont sign him!!
wbabomber
i understand where your coming from yet he just reminds me of lloyd dyer…great talent, great prospect, i dont even know who he plays for now???
as for dudley baggie, his one of two things
1. a wolf in disguise
2. a 9 year old kid throwing his dummy out the pram because we’re moving on with change.
kitson ,saha ,bentner , theres plenty to choose from ,im sure mow will be doing plenty of sniffing around right now to make sure we get the players in asap….morning tel hows ya mom mate………..PLAYIN IN THE PREM THE MOWBRAY WAY,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOOOOOOH YES..
Mornin all.
I see blackburn have just signed Robbie Fowler…
The desperation of some clubs is astonishing. I remember Fulham signed Kuqui last season - and he really is dross.
I’m pleased to see that we are being sensible and selective in our targets. I would rather go into the season as we are than sign Robbie Fowler - he must be older than me and aint played since december.
Most of those names above would be good - and I’m sure we will see some movement soon - it would have been quite easy to keep KP for another two seasons so you gotta think TM has better lined up.
boingboing666
Last season Dyer helped get Paul Ince get promoted, his performances have seen him get a move to Leicester with Nigel Pearson.
any striker as long as it is not m.bent
23,ste,you never know mate, bigger stage he just mite be the answer, dont think we ever saw the best of him aye boing boing
happy-baggie isn’t that the robbie fowler that scored more than once against you last season? with regards to Phillips it dosn’t mean he has somebody in the wings it means that you couldnt afford to keep him how are you going to afford anyone better? At the moment the only players who may cut it in the prem is Koren and possibly morrison (2nd time lucky) greening I really like but he is not physically strong enough for the prem and is too slow, i think you need another 6-7 international gems or you are doomed. Apparently peace is also trying to sell the 700 seats which have been taken out the ground to put towards the transfer budget, terry want me to buy you one so you got somewhere to sit whilst in the benefits office?
Bomber, I agree with your comments about Dudley Baggie. We do not need any negativity. I like the shout on Derbyshire but I think we are more likely to take on a loan player as the needs in defence and midfield will probably take priority.
My combination would be Bednarf and Moore I think they could work although I still think the jury is out on Moore.
hi worcester she doing fine thanks,as for strikers bet ya life it will be sombody we never heard of but will finish the season top scorer in the prem aye boing boing
i hope the new striker aint bent, lol, aint havin that name on the back of me shirt, aye boing boing ello sailor
Bomber.
I think the prerequisite of any striker coming in is that they are a) better than we have and b) on the way up rather than on the way down. Bent fails on both. Beattie on b and possibly on a as well. Good list of foreign targets but would Zuiverloon have featured in your list of defensive targets. Can’t wait to see who we go for.
On the McDonald thread. When he first came I couldn’t believe how bad he was. He had pace and strength in bucket loads but seemed to possess no positional sense (surprising in a Dutch player.) As the season went on and he got a few sub appearances, although still not the finished article, he had come on in leaps and bounds. Someone has said that he’s still lacking defensively but he’s a work in progress and with TM, MV and PG all working on him, I agree with you. One to watch for the future.
Not sure about Dudley Baggie. I think he is one of ours, albeit we’d be willing to listen to offers for them. Apparently we’re the ‘gullible’ ones because we can’t see through Ernst Stavro Peace’s plan for global domination by bleeding money out of the Albion. Here’s little old naive me thinking that it would be in JP’s interests to have WBA as an established prem club. This type will use anything to have a go at the chairman. They would be happy to see the club sold to anyone and then when it goes pear shaped that will be Mr Peace’s fault as well for selling it. No doubt they’ll also be booing at the first opportunity when anything goes wrong. I know I’m on my high horse again but I can’t believe that when we’re brink of a prem season, with a great management team and the best set of players we’ve had for years that people come on here being negative. But then I’m just a gullible idiot. Or perhaps they were born a few miles south of their spiritual home.
35,yes please loffin, they got sum nice albion ones in the club shop, aye boing boing take a seat sir
bomber
ahhh i wasnt aware, il have to top up my knowledge!
i remember him setting up/scoring (i cnt quite remember)against sunderland a few seasons ago in the last few minutes. shame he didnt blossom as much as we’d hoped.
has anyone seen the masters league team for albion? theres some names i havent heard for a while, as ever sneekes is making an appearance.
laughingwilf,,,,why dont you go back on the dings pages and annoy ya buddies on there,,or cant they stand the crap that comes out ya gob either,,,,,PLAYIN IN THE PREM THE MOWBRAY WAY,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,OOOOOOOOOOH YES..
Just saw that albion had a ‘training match’ last night. They were wearing last seasons kit with last seasons sponsor on everyone getting excited because luke moore scored two against the youth players that are never good enough to come through. Absolutely priceless, come on baggies get tesco as your sponsor, hows the new shirts coming along? oh no i forgot you cant get a sponsor so your releasing them a later date! there must be a newsagent or local plumber willing to sponsor you, mind you it may give them a bad name getting tonked every week!
Good shout about Kris Boyd and we should also get Thompson from Rangers while we are shopping there.
BUT where is our new goalie, centre half x2, left back. Hurry up TM the sales are over soon.
Laughing wolf
I normally ignore you, however your constant digs at terrys personal situation makes me want to meet you face to face. If you knew what his situation is i would hope you would be ashamed of yourself and your comments.
I love the banter between wolves and albion fans, and i often find some of your comments amusing and the remarks regarding the selling of the removed seats was funny right up to the point you, without regard or full facts of the situation tried to be funny at another persons expense.
boingboing666
Koumas!! (Sunderland game away)
Negative yes, realistic yes, hoping yes.
We have a great manager, the problem is trying to unearth untapped talent for the Fizzy is one thing, for the Prem another.
I will point out though i am not a dingle, or am i anything but positive when supporting the boys at the shrine.
I have faith in the team and the manager but not the board, throw as many insults at me you want but deep down you know i am correct.
Bomber - maybe you. me and hilltop baggie could “pop round” to “visit” laughed at…
You and hilltop could work him over whilst i stand at the side and give a really funny but sarcastic commentary on it.
I only ever scroll past him now as his postings are just repetitive and banal - the guy has no imagination and obviously little intelligence.
His constant desire to be seen as a “global investor” are on par with jester boy telling us he meant to mistype gesture.
As you say - banter is fun, but the knuckle draggers will always take it that step too far.
Good job our Terry has the dignity and good grace to rise above all this - he will just reply with a smile and a laugh… Laughed at would do well to learn from him
Being a decent bloke the TERRY way in MOWBURY STYLE - oh yes !!!
Dudley 47 - I disagree with you - but respect your point of view.
However, as long as we support the team we are all together - lets just hope the club can prove you wrong !!
I liked lloyd Dyer - he reminded me of Nicky Cross - all the pace, skill and trickery until he got to the box then the ball would go anywhere. However he did set up koumas for that goal at stadium of s**te.
Kevin Donovan was similar - all the skill but a bit wayward with the final ball…. but i liked him too.
dudleybaggie
Thanks for coming back, i might not agree with you, but i am happy your a baggie!!
I hope you get birmingham in the fa cup next season and philips scores a hatrick against you, that would be nice.
Laffin wolf that comment is a disgrace, i 100% agree with Happy whos comments i almost never agree with, ill go along with the baggys to have a chat with the idiot, absolute disgrace to call himself a wolves fan.
Is it me, or as Miller got an attitude problem? When he loses the ball, (far tol often), he sulks and his head drops like a stone. TM needs him to use his ‘unused’ leg to kick himself up the backside.
Good wishlist, but realistically who could come straight into a potentially struggling side and get goals? I’m not being negative, but I think we need to weigh up all possibilities. Few current Prem strikers available have delivered on a regular basis - Bent, Nugent, SA, or event Bendtner.
Baggiebob - if thats you not being negative then i would hate to see you on a gloomy day.
Miller may drop his head on occassion - but he is learning. I remember a certain C Regis was very similar. If it wasn’t played to within an inch of his feet he wouldn’t run for it - but he turned out ok.
You also say we will be struggling and not scoring goals…. on what do you base this ??
Yes we may have a relatively unproven front line at this level - but i believe they are capable of making the step up - plus our midfield will definately score a few - so PLEASE…. lighten up and enjoy it.
50. We called lloyd dyer Big Daves love child!!!
We had folkes round us p*ssin themselves…
He was ok but would never make it in prem..
52. Yawn yawn yawn…
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…….
48 - Happy, I wouldn’t bother with Loffingfilth, that’s what he’s looking for.
Plus, if he gets hurt at all, how’s he going to save us all from the impending global recession?
35 - Still bored Shadrag!!
43.
Needed that training game as we won’t be playing you lot this season.
Dudleybaggie 12 Telling the story as it is,the
truth the whole truth and nothink but the truth.
id like to see matt derbyshire up at the hawthorns. Hes gotta be betta than ishmael miller and craig beattie
hes just the player id love up here, him and bednar would be a great partnership.
TM betta start signing defenders and quick
Firstly, when terry comes on to the wolves page (every day) its an ongoing joke about him being unemployed etc and he plays along with it, its called banter he dishes it out and takes it, if it was a matter of ’sensitivity’ I apologise terry but as he regularly plays along and enjoys it, I very much doubt there is. As for ‘paying me a visit’ thats banter gone too far and I don’t think it would be the wisest of choices on your part, feels like being back at school happy_baggie yeah 3 of us will come, if (A) you knew who I was (B) where I lived (C) Albion fans are notorious for all talk and no action.
Will you stop saying about a ‘global recession’ Nedball the financial climate is poor in the uk and America I actually mad a client a 380% return in Bulgaria recently.
Happy_BAGGIE the big man over a chatroom!
60 - Is your name supposed to be so ironic?
BIG, RICH, WOLVES?? I like it!!
62 - Shadrag, I just provided Wolverhampton’s industrial economy with a 600% upturn by making 1 phone call.
Google it, I’m sure you’ll see a post by me to prove it, and Carl Hoefkens will back me up too!!
I do agree with what you said about Happy coming round with his mates though. No matter how much you irritate me and bore me to tears, I think to post things like that is a bit out of order.
Laughed at and Ned - the fact that I don’t know who he is (nor would i want to)… should indicate that maybe the post wasn’t that serious… but its funny how these prats who regulary pick on people are the first ones to boo hoo when its handed back at them.
As for “and I don’t think it would be the wisest of choices on your part”…ooooh, excuse me whilst i change my underwear.
However your suggestion that terry “enjoys” you mocking his situation just sounds like school yard bullying…. who would want a moron like you talking about their personal life ? But as I say - he is far to gracious to actually complain.
Buy Buy (sell sell) shadrag.
Happy-baggie, a bit of banter and you saying “why don’t three of us go round there etc” terry even had his name as terryUNEMPLOYEDbaggie or something very similar at one point, if he didn’t enjoy the banter why does he come onto the wolves page every day and change his name according to the conversation and say he ‘gets his fishing rod out and see who bites’the blokes a comedian and loves whinding people up, he enjoys it. It’s idiots like you that lower the tone trying to be the high and mighty but then say say comments like “let me change my underwear” What would be a wise choice on your part happy is if you come and get some financial advice from me I’ll make you some money, maybe you can buy the club from peace?
nedball if you type in carl hoefkens in the top right site search box you will find the story about what he said. why are all your players so unhappy?
Shadrag - i wouldn’t trust you with milk money…
I won’t be replying to you any longer as i think you are getting the oxygen that nasty little creeps like you thrive on.
So by all means continue to post your banal and pointless drivel - its ill informed, crass and boring… i will continue to scroll past you now - you leave a nasty smell on these boards.
My local League 2 side are expecting a £400,000 sell on fee for the transfer of Jon Walters to either Wigan,Stoke,or the Albion just read in the local paper today. I would go for Nicky Maynard of CREWE this striker I have seen play and scored against Kuczack in the Man Utd goal in a League cup match. A very talented striker with an eye for a goal.
56: Lloyd Dyer.
We called him Starvin Marvin after a character on South Park - they were seperated at birth!
Always raised a laugh in the surrounding seats.
BOING BOING 666. IREMEBER THAT GOAL he set up for koumas he broke away like wing footed mercury leaving all in his slip stream alittle drop of the shoulder, a swivle of the hips and he just lit the after burners and went into hyperspeed aquick look up layed the ball off with lazer like accuracy, never saw the actual goal it self some bloke built like house jumped up in front of me and blocked my view but i knew we scored when such aroar went from our lot that you felt apressure wave that made the hairs on me neck stand up,just like they are now just recalling the memory…
WOLVES HAVE SIGNED IWELUMO. I DUNNO WHAT TO MAKE OF THIS TBF.
Don’t worry L-C-W he’s just the sort of striker that mad mick likes. He’s big, experienced- i.e 30, with all the pace of a breeze block and he’ll put a shift in as you hoof it up to him! You never know though he may work in a classic little and large partnership with Ebanks Blake… On the other hand do worry! It’s a shame to waste your wingers on a donkey like that.
