Birmingham have confirmed the free transfer signing of Albion striker Kevin Phillips on a two-year deal.
The 34-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract with the Baggies, as well as the opportunity to once again play in the Premier League.
He leaves the Hawthorns with a record of 46 goals in 81 appearances, with 24 goals in 38 appearances during the title winning season of 2007/08.

Farewell Kev….thanks for the goals…the play off goals especially…
Now go and stick it up em again.!!!
see ya kev, dissapointed you chose money over football considering your wealth, but never mind onwards and upwards stick it up the dingles one last time!!!!
boing boing
At last its over so now we move on,here`s to the next gem to be unearthed by Mowbray and crew, Boing Boing
I would be disapointed if I was an ablion fan, delighted if I was a blouse fan, and as a Wolves fan - annoyed as I had hoped not to see him again!
Best of luck Super Kev, personally I think it’s a mistake, but thanks for 2 brilliant years. Suppose I can use my Super Kev T shirt whilst I’m putting down the new laminate in the kitchen now!!
Dissapointed at how this saga has ended Phillips time with the Albion and obviously dissapointed that once again money is the main contribution in decisions regarding the game we all grew upto love when playing over the park with your mates for FUN!!
All the best to Kev with what he has chosen to do, and thanks for many a great goal in your time at the Hawthorns
Poor Wolves. This means he plays against them again next season. Good luck Super Kev
Thanks for the good times and goals Kev!
Have to put this in perspective, he was with us for a couple of years, did his job,and well, now we have to look to the future….who is on TM’s radar??
moved for football not money? bigger club better fans jumping a sinking ship more like see you soon tesco’s
Watch this space for 2 new strikers, Ameobi plus one. Don`t worry about Ameobi he justs needs to get match fit and then watch him go. TM just needs to nurture him to rekindle the blistering form he had a few years ago. remember when he palyed against us in the 2-2 last game of the 1st prem season, the Geordies sang his name most of the game, he was a hero then and can be again.
Think super kev will struggle to get anywhere near 20 goals again, combination of knees and less chances for him to convert. I`m sure he`ll manage 2 or 3 against the wolves though.
Disappointed in both the player and the club, hope it turns out to be the correct decision.
Phillips will take some replacing, lets see who Mobs signs.
Good luck Kev, not too sure you will be as loved by the blue noses as the baggies faithful.
Fulham have released Philip Cristanval, anyone reckon we should go for him? he’s fairly experienced…
Absolutely gutted. Good luck SKP, we’ll miss you.
not shocked one bit
its been ongoing for ages now
disapointed in phillips but what he did for club was fantastic to be fair.
lets look forward to a new striker at club im sure t.m has got players in mind.
anyone going to kidderminster tomorrow night for warm up game ?????
Please people, no more banging on about loyalty and all that! The guy has stayed to the end of his contract, never been a problem and has been a great role model for the younger players. The only reason he’s moved is because to earn the second year of his contract he needed to play in 50% of the prem games and Mowbray has said that he would be used sparingly this season. 50% chance of getting another year at the end of his career or a 100% chance? No brainer really isn’t it? Plus he doesn’t have to move house or take his kids out of school by going to Blues and he stands a good chance of getting another medal with them. Look on the bright side, at least we’ll get to see him score a few more against the Dingles!!!
12 - I hear Bobby Charlton’s out of contract, maybe you should go for him?!
Sorry, he’s neither played for Grays or Irish, so he’s not on the radar is he?!
blues bigger than the albion you having a laugh when did you last win the fa cup oh you never have 5 nil to the albion !
goodbye and thank you super Kev
Having seen that SKP only needed to notch up 19 appearances, including those as a sub, in order to gain his second year, it confirms what most of us think that the club made him a very fair offer.
Disappointing that he chose not to take it, given his financial position, but despite that he will always be remembered for his skillful play, his personality, professionalism and great goal scoring record.
Perhaps KEV is being fair to us too, given the terms offered, he may be even more worried about his injury and his ability to complete that number of games, in which case we’re all happier to see the blues pay his wages.
Good luck SKP and thanks for the memories.
Chopper
Did you seriously just say that Blues were a bigger club than Albion and have better fans? Hope that was tongue in cheek or you may need to go and lie down for a while cuz you’re delirious! Or perhaps it’s just that you know nothing about either club or their history…hmmm
2. You can’t blame Kev for looking after him & his own. Footballers today are employed by clubs to do a job, they are not “one club men” like in days of yore!.
Anyway, I am sure that if, for example, you as an Albion fan were lucky enough to play for them & some other club came in with a much better offer you would find it a tough decision to make whether to go or stay.
As I stated before, Kev was there to do a job, he has no real “feeling” for the club like us fans do & Kev is not alone in that respect - all other players are the same.
Kev certainly did a good job for us in the fleeting time that he was at the Hawthorns, & I for one wish him all the best. Look on the bright side, he will probably keep the Dingles out of the top 6 (again).
All the best Kev. I hope it goes well for you at the Blues.
Now who to replace him? I just hope its not Ameobi, he really is pants.
I think WBA are being very short sighted in letting Philips go. I would have given him a 2 year contract and then he could have helped you get out of the Championship the season after next…… Going down, the Mowbray way, Oh yes….
Disappointed that money has won over football again for two reasons.
1. Player greed is going to ruin clubs
2. We didn’t compete AGAIN
Good luck to Kev. I undertsand he wanted to guarantee the security of his family at the end of his career, but he could’ve easily earned the seond year. 19 league appearances isn’t that many as he would’ve been on the bench or the pitch at the start of nearly all of the games anyway. At this rate, Blues will have more old men in the squad than Wolves!!!
Now we have to go out and replace him with something younger and better. I’m sure To Mo already has targets in mind; let’s hope that our tight-fisted, heel-dragging chairman doesn’t refuse to pay for the taxi to save a tenner and cost us a transfer.
Loyal-Cannock-Wolf - Forget Cristanval. Not up to it, even at Championship level IMHO
15. AJ - I disagree with your ‘no brainer’ comment - even if Phillips wasn’t offered the second year at the Albion he’d get a championship club offering him a deal - he’s chosen a championship side with a possible year in the premiership at 36 over a 100% guaranteed year in the premiership at 35 with the possible chance of 2 seasons at the top……the football no brainer decision was to stay where he wanted to - the Albion. He’s moved for the money - FACT! As for Loyalty, no one has mentioned a lack of it. The guy is a class act and his decision is disappointing but all Baggies Fans will wish him well and hope he slots at the Custard Bowl again.
20 AJ blues are a bigger club with bigger attendances as are wolves and villa. fact. Oh dear another player leaving the sinking ship, Tony Mowbray next if another bigger club come in I bet your glad Walsall have a new Manager! So top scorer and most influencial player: gone Most talented player:gone. GOING DOWN!
Chopper see’s the size of the club based on the amount of Chairmen, amount of people that storm the pitch at the end of the season and break the goals, plus amount of threats that can be made towards all of the chairmen too.
You win Chopper, BTW, isn’t Chopper another name for a certain area of the male anatomy?!
Point proven!
thanks and good luck ,hope ya stuff the dingles
Loyal-Cannock-Wolf
he used to play for Barca am i right?? maybe he’d fit in well with you lot who knows, he might be a bit over the hill now though mate. i used to sign him in my football manager sim games when i played as teams of our stature.
KP,
All the best in a blues shirt, would have loved to see you slug it out in the Prem and its a shame you won’t be doing that this season. I’ll certainly be giving you a round of applause when you Blues boys get promoted next season and face us in the Prem. Hopefully we’ll have a replacement worthy enough to fill your boots.
Come on TM make an approach for Saha. Its worth a shot.
Good Luck Kev. Thanks for the memeories! Now back to the Premiership and the future.
To all the head the ball albion fans wishing skp all the best: He’s a millionairre that has chosen money over ambition! Completely sold out! Any sensible fan would not be well wishing!
tara kev look out dingles, aye boing boing
loffingwulfie - told you - bored!!
We’ll see at the end of the season whether the good ship Albion sinks or not, and we’ll see who’s laughing then.
See you later Shadrag!!
26. laughing wolf. You are a bigger club but you are stuck in the chumpionship with, lets face it, little chance of getting out of it this season.
I would rather take my chances playing prem teams, even if it’s for one season, than playing against the likes of wulfs who, quite frankly, don’t even offer a challenge.
If we do come down we can look forward to giving your lot a footballing lesson again.
You would think that by know you would be too embarrassed to continually express your jealous little dingle feelings, but then again, you have to have some intelligence for that.
Enjoy your successful season in the chumpionship, we may see you next year.
31 - not “any sensible fan” - just any wolves fan.
Your reputation for attacking your current players and ex players is legendary… we on the other hand appreciate the goals KP gave us and the fact that we earned promotion with those goals - so grow up for a change (or go back to booing whichever player you lot are targeting this week).
`Laughing on the other side of your face wolf` -
most influential player gone? No Jonno`s still here. Most Talented player gone? Crikey - Kim, Morrison, Brunt, Koren, Texeira, Zuiverloon, Bednar and Miller haven`t gone as well have they?
Don`t you just hate it, all that talent and then TM today states that some `very exciting` players are on the brink of signing.
P.S. Nedball - good shout on loffin being shadrag but I had him down as more like the pot faced one with greasy black hair that all the woman are of scared of, can`t recall his name.
31.
Obviously I’m not a sensible fan. All the best KP. You’ve done a great job for us and always conducted yourself well. If Blues come straight back up I’ll give him a cheer when we play them.
The only bitter taste is the time this has taken to sort out but that’s football these days. Cyril said the other day ‘we don’t want to go back to the days of players being bought and sold at the whim of clubs.’ Don’t know if I’m alone but I do. Even in those ‘bad old days’ there was no shortage of people wanting to be footballers.
Anyway onwards and upwards. If TM wants Ameobi, I’m happy to trust his judgement but I’m sure we’ll soon see now this one is done and dusted. Can’t wait. Ain’t it great supporting a well run, forward thinking team.
Laughingwolf
I always thought the old argument over who the bigger club was to compare history/ground/facilities etc? Now no one can argue that Villa are the biggest club in the West Mids due to how much they’ve won over the years. Again, as much as it pains me to say it, Wolves are a bigger club than Albion as they have a more successful history. But to say Blues are bigger than Albion is just plain stupid seeing as they’ve only won the League Cup and we have 10 trophies to our name!!!
And to say Blues fans are anything other than moronic animals is again plain stupid! Can you really see Albion/Wolves/Villa fans invading their own pitch and destroying their own goal posts?!
My point about Phillips was that Mowbray has said he won’t play anywhere near as many games this season so there’s a good chance he won’t win the 2nd year. He’s left a prem club where he’s been told he’d be sat on the bench most of the time to go just down the road to play first team football for the next two years. I can see his point.
36 - That’d be Cain mate, thinking about it, he’s prob more like Sam, he’s a bit simple too aint he?!
bigger club ????
last time i checked blues had just reached the 10,000 mark for season ticket sales not bad for a huge club ha ha ha ha
good news is though phillips has a superb record against the dingles.
so im looking forward to him making them cry again
boing boing we are premier league
wolves and blues in the rola cola league
35 Hb, you have changed your tune from yesterday. Were you not the one slating the like of McLean and Phillips yesterday for their mercenary attitudes?
Unlike you I dont change my mind depending on how the wind is blowing on a particular day!
They call Wolves fans fickle!
Kev can sit out most of the season again and still score more gaols than Seb Eccles Cake.
Going to Mid Table again the McCarthy way!
No loss with Philips, couldnt do it for Villa. Different level in Prem, to much for notsosuperKev.
AJ, good post, no way Blues are bigger than Tesco Town. Glad to see some honesty in admitting Wolves are.
38 - AJ
Good post. But one thing. The only reason Villa are the biggest West Mids club is because Wolves and Albion have spent most of the last 25 years messing about in the lower leagues. Because of the TV exposure the Prem gets, Villa’s fan base has obviously picked up a fair share of young supporters born into non committed households. And when you look at what they’ve won since 1900 it ain’t that much.
41 - I haven’t changed my tune - I genuinely thank Phillips for the two seasons and the goals and of course the promotion… yes its still wrong that players make career decisions purely on money - but that doesn’t mean we aint grateful for what he did whilst he was here.
Yes I think Phillios and Gera have both made bad choices dictated by money - but I still wish them well because they were great for the albion.
Wolves fans on the other hand turn on every player who either leaves, thinks of leaving, they think may leave (Kites) and everyone else…. as I’ve said before - you have the worst supporters reputation in football.
Just brought a book on the history of Birmingham City Football Club..It’s titled : “A hundred and thirty years of NOTHING”…Volume 2 is out soon..no prizes for the title….
44, Erm… The European Cup? FA Cup 7 times plus a few other trophies im not Villa educated enough to know, but I think your getting my point.
I hope Villa fans dont get wind of your post!
43.
I think you’ll find that post was from one of your lot and therefore not so much honest as deluded.
thanks for the memories KP AND GOOD LUCK,for us both both a new adventure begins for the dingles the same nightmare continues say we want moxey in saywe want moxey in…
The Real Belly;
Still a fact whoever you support.
Your are probably bigger than Walsall now you know.
TA TA KEV ,,thanks for all the goals esp against the dings ,go get some more now and good luck,,,now lets go get another young and hungry striker with pace to burn,,go find another gem mow……PHILLIPS SPANKING THE WOLVES ONE MORE TIME,,IN STYLE AS ALWAYS..GOOD LUCK SUPA KEV….
Cheers for 2 good seasons Kev,good luck at the Blues…..
50 Sandwell massage parlour.
I know we’re bigger than Walsall. Are you?
sorry laughing wolf thats like saying salisbury hill is bigger than mount everest. we are a big club, we have a better fan base, we have our own pub in london, we have a better stadium, we have a world class academy. we have quality players, we are a premiership club. and we have beat you so many times in the last ten years, its embarresing. and as for blues no bigger than walsall.
albion dont like wolves becuase we have a much more colourfull and sucessfull history than them and they know it fact.

55 K`ford
You are wrong, our reasons for disliking wolves,
is spiteful plebs that infest these boards with their pathetic diatribe.
And the fact you lot keep on about your illustrious past is because your current history is, shall will we say a little less than illustrious.
What happened 50 odd years ago !!!!!
LOL.
OH
And i meant to say, thank heavens for Malvern,
Filton, Nathan, Who are Wolves biased through and through, but never trash talk, and our old mate
Southbank, whos bitterness is tongue in cheek and comedic.
Wbaforever…..thanks for the compliment my friend. I will never ever trash talk anyone because they support another team. I may take the p##s but it’s all in the best possible taste….now where have I heard that before. I suppose Southbank is our version of Terry.. no offence meant to either of you guys because I always enjoy what you have to say !!
Let’s hope we all have a season to remember.
If he had been at Wolves he would have got a life contract–Good luck Kev hope when you play us someone ties your laces together–Crazey Dave
