Budding academics in Rowley Regis donned their gowns and mortar boards as they prepared to ‘graduate’ from nursery to school.
Staff at Rowley Owls Nursery planned a surprise graduation ceremony for youngsters and their parents.
It was an emotional night, with the nursery waving goodbye to its first intake of children.
The nursery opened at Happy Faces Children’s Centre in Windsor Road in July 2006 and this term’s graduates are made up of the first recruits from two years ago.
Most of the children in the class of three-to-five-year-olds will be heading off to Rowley Hall Primary School in September, so nursery staff wanted to give them a fitting send off.
A special slide show was put together featuring all the pictures the youngsters had worked on through the past year and certificates were handed out during a special graduation ceremony.
Other entertainment included a disco and barbecue.
Nursery manager Emma Jewkes said seeing the children leave at the end of term was an emotional occasion. “It is the first one we have done but we thought it would be something a bit different,” she said.
