Is Super Kev off to Blues? Is anyone going to buy the club before the season starts? writes blogger Jarrod Hill.
Who will be the new sponsor?
Well if rumour is to be believed Jeremy Peace is in negotiation with LDV Vans regarding a six figure sponsor ship deal. This has now led to further rumours relating to a certain Russian billionaire who owns LDV. Yes Oleg Deripaska owns LDV, and the link between the two has again got the Baggies faithful talking about a possible Russian owner.
On the player front, Super Kev is meant to be on the verge of signing for Birmingham.
We all know that football is a world surrounded by money, but when you look at the prospect of Phillips moving across the city from a football standpoint it doesn’t make sense for him to join Birmingham.
Firstly he will be joining a squad already boasting a number of strikers including, Forsell, O`Connor, McFadden, and Jerome. Having already played for Albion and the Villa he will be ill afforded any goodwill by the Blue noses. My fear is that if he does not get off to a good start he will not receive any sympathy and support from a group of fans who remember him scoring against them in the claret and blue.
I want Phillips to stay; I still believe he can score goals in the Premiership and his intelligence makes up for his 34 year old legs.
If he does go then we seriously need to look for a striker who can make partnerships work (and I am not talking about a marriage guidance counsellor).
One of Phillips undervalued strengths is his ability to play up front with any given partner and get the best out of them, without him I can not see a partnership within our remaining strikers.
I have seen Bednar and Miller and although both score goals I don’t think they look like a natural partnership, and Luke Moore has never developed a strike partner with anyone he has played with previously. Whereas Phillips could play alongside any of them and make it work. Mcdonald, Slusarski, Beattie and Dorrans I wouldn’t expect to be making any kind of impression at the top level and may see one or two leave before the start of the season, maybe on loan.
I expect to see a striker arrive quickly if Phillips decides to leave; I think Mowbray is awaiting his decision before moving for his striker targets and I am sure he will be looking for a striker with the same intelligent attributes that Phillips has.
I hope Super Kev decides to stay amongst fans that love him and a club that can offer him a Premiership stage to which his talent deserves, if not, so long Kev and thanks for the memories.
The club have stated quite firmly that the deal on offer will not change, but when Peace and Mowbray play their cards so close to their chest it is hard to even speculate what is going to happen next, we all wait with baited breath.

All very true Jarrod, and i share your sentiments also, but i do see both sides on this one. I njust wish that we had an answer, the deadline keeps being put back which suggests to me that K.P. really wants to stay, but wants a better deal and we know that wont be the case. Oh well off to work, catch you later no doubt.
i think forsell has left the blues jarrod ,,but even so if kev joins them its for the 2yr deal he wanted and good luck to him,,,but like you say expect a forward to join us pretty soon,i just hope it aint ameobi….go get kitson or nugent maybe worth a look…..as for the russian come on down if you got the dollars……SPENDING ALL THE RUSSIANS DOLLARS,,IN STYLE OF COURSE,,,OOOOOOOOOOOOH YES..
Jarrod, I’m with you on this one. I hope he stays as he’s been excellent for us since day 1 he turned up.
He’s bought the best out of Miller and Bednar and he can score goals in the Prem.
If he goes, we’ll have to pay some decent money to find someone with a footballing brain like his, plus it appears to me he has a great positive effect in the dressing room.
We could do with some news on this ASAP though, so come on Kev, be fair to us and let us know what you’re doing, but if you do go, all the very best of luck!!
What makes me laugh about the Russian rumour, is that the E&D said in a previous article that those rumours were wide of the mark. Who started them? THE E&D!!
The mind boggles it really does.
As for Kev, he’s had his time at Albion and now its time to say goodbye. I hold no grudges against him, as long as he scores at his favourite ground next season!
“Who put the ball in the Dingles net?”……..
unless mcfadden is on his way,hes a premiership player.
I agree with your comments on Kev’s extra abilities, and also add that we will be missing Gera’s talent and work rate. He could and would defend and attack in the air and on the ground. worth a bomb! Kev brings out the best in other players and links play brilliantly aswell as dragging defenders out of position. These two will be very hard to replace and I doubt well be seeing the flowing football from last year unless we find some very good replacements
I’ll carry on saying the decision NOT to offer Kevin Phillips the deal he was asking could be a MASSIVE mistake.
Ok he may not have scored a ‘hatful’ of goals in the ‘greed League’ BUT his experience, positional play, and ability to snap up a fair percentage of chances that came his way could have proved invaluable come the end of the next season.
WE have to trust Tony Mowbray to sign adequate rplacements, bringing in Filipe Teixeira and Robert Koren proves he he has an eye for a bargain but in saying that just where do you find another Kevin Phillips?
Could be a long hard season without ‘Super Kev’ and Zoltan Gera but oly time will tell whether the club were right or wrong in both cases.
To be honest I am a bit sick of hearing about whether KP is going or staying. In my opinion he either needs to go now or just stay he will very soon begin to lose the respect he had from many fans with this saga. Its nearly as stupid as the Barry soap opera!!!.
on the other point of sponsor/new investor is the possible new sponsor not the same russian that was “linked” with albion before if so why cant the sponsor also be the “owner” or have I totaly misread the recent going’s on
Oh dear, its only because he loves running on the Mol and having a nice time, still like him though,
Come on Albion the lad only wants 24 months and retire grasefully, he has given Abion good sevice so reward him and stop being a stick in the mud
Wednesbury, great post. I can’t remember who put the ball in the Dingles net, I’ll check the E and D to help my memory.
Actually, who did put the ball in the Dingles’ net last season? Certainly wasn’t KP - in fact, the guy that scored against us has now abandoned you for a Harrods hamper! No loyalty in football these days - look at Seyi Olofinjana as a perfect example.
Firstly, I would like to point out I would like Albion to stay up so we can possibly have a premiership derby next season. At the moment things are not looking good. Gera gave false hope to the albion fans and then joined fulham when apparently he wanted to play european football, they are however a bigger club than albion but its certainly not europe. So your best player has gone. The Chairman who is so regularly praised is selling the club at the time he will be getting a ‘peak price’ for a premiership club. However, a premiership club that struggles to get a 6 figure deal for a shirt sponsor is not good. Your top scorer looks set to join local rivals. You have managed to secure the inevitable permanent signings of some good championship players which you had on loan and brought in a young dutch prospect. So taking all the above into account, the club for sale, 2 best players left (if kev goes), no shirt sponsorship, I can see the roles of the black country clubs being reversed this time next season. Happy_baggie I am opening an office in Bristol from September so if you want some financial advice or some tips from the best stockbroker around come and see me, if jeremy peace wants to come he’s more than welcome or if Hoefkins wants me to find him some property in an alternative area it can be arranged!
12,gary copper, it was gera my darling aye boing boing xxxxx
laughed at wolf…. more bizzare “facts” from our resident investor i see.
So its not looking good for us ?? we aint kicked a ball yet but a dingle thinks we are already relegated - WOW !
So Fulham are bigger than Albion - yet wolves who are a mid table CCC side are also bigger than albion - suprise suprise.
I didn’t bother reading any further into your drivel as the first two points summed you up yet again - a sad muppet looking with envy at your neighbours as they begin ANOTHER premiership campaign.
I can feel your pain pal - thats why they call me happy !
Re 14 - terrySEXPOTbaggie, thankyou for that snippet of info. You are, as ever, a source of great wisdom on all things Throstle. All my love, Garry Clopper xox

I was feeling a little down this morning but you have perked me right up!!!
It is funny how fans view certain situations, personally i didnt view Gera or Phillips as our two best players, but yes both were important last season for many reasons. I wanted both to stay and i still hope Phillips decides his future is at the Hawthorns for the reasons within the blog.
However, when players leave it allows others to take their opportunity, and for new players to come in. Too early to make any assessment on our chances this season, very much like your own team.
I see we have just taken on peter Grant (ex-Norwich manager) as first team coach.
I think this will be a very good move - he has bags of experience (he was also asst manager at West ham too).
Shaky has been great for us for many years, but I’m really happy to see grant come in.
Loffingwulf - I can see that you’re trying AGAIN to have a dig, but disguise it in nonsensical points.
I’m bored of you personally!
Until you can start making sense and provide evidence of this Hoefkens ‘quote’ you keep blabbing on about, do you mind ever so much stopping making me feel even more tired than I need to!
16,gary clopper, your welcome my love, anytime you need to know anything about our fantastic premier league club just let me know,as they say at tesco,HAPPY TO HELP, AYE BOING BOING
NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH hot off the press tony mowbury as appointed former norwich manager peter grant as first team coach, aye boing boing
I am disappointed because I thought Kevin was above all of this kind of stuff.
The second year issue has two sides to it; performance related pay can inspire older players to go the extra mile rather than sit on the bench for a season waiting for retirement. I also wonder if Kevin has thought about the message he’s sending out to the Albion fans who picked him up after his trip from Villa Park?
Thanks Terry, but it’s Garry (as in with 2 ‘r’s). Is it not ‘every little helps’ that they say at Tesco? mind you, I wouldn’t really know - I shop at Aldi of course.
But thankyou for offering your services as a WBA trivia mine - I shall certainly take you up on that when I need to to know stuff about the club you support.
laughingwolf
you disappoint me pal, i actually made myself comfortable in my chair after reading your first few lines, then i found myself grabbing for my lucozade bottle to continue! No….I decided to get back in with work instead!
Malvern, just to refresh your memory, Super Kev scored 4 goals in 6 games agianst Wolves in Albion colours.
The first came in our FA Cup win at Molinspew, when we invaded the Southbank.
2 more came in the first leg of the playoffs, and another in the 2nd leg. Remember? That’s when little old Albion went to Wembley.
I look forward to next season with great anticipation. Albion to stay up, Villa to fall short of Europe, Wolves to finish 7th again, and Super Kevin Phillips to fire Blues to the Premiership (with 2 hat tricks against Wolves along the way).
Sounds good doesn’t it!
Scoring goals at Molinspew the Kevin Phillips way, in style of course, ooooooooohhhh yes!
hey garry you suprise me,i fort yowd be a netto man, another building w-ton shud be proud of a arcitecual masterpeace aye boing boing
happy bogie you are a sensitive soul. Nedball look it up on google. Your players have slated the area and fans (kiely and hoefkens) and gera left with no thanks and phillips is now off to local rivals blues. wba bomber who exactly was your best player. On here it was regularly stated that phillips was your most influencial player and gera had the most ability but never fear you have dorrans and luke moore to replace them! going down the mowbray way with 10 stylish points!
Forrsell has already left the club and moved abroad to Hannover last week on a bosman.
what I don’t understand is why does a 2 year deal at a championship club possibly suits KP more than a one year deal (+ another in clubs favour) in the Premiership? He says he wants to play in the premiership one last time but if he joins Blues he’s not guaranteed that and at best will play for 1 season a year older than he is now. If he plays for us he gets a Prem season a year younger in a team that plays football the way he enjoys with the possibility of another season at prem level - if that isn’t the case and Albion let him go he’ll definitely be offered a contract by a championship club anyway. Therefore, I can only conclude that if KP goes to Blues or any other championship club this summer his decision has to be purely financial - and that will be very disappointing as I’m sure he isn’t short in that department.
Fingers crossed he stays as I agree with Terry Wills - it could be a MASSIVE mistake to let him go - especially if Ameobi is the replacement. I fear he is Blues bound tho
lol - it is a lovely building innit? Almost as architecturally inpsiring as the Golden Palace of Waterloo Road…
Seems strange that if Blues have offered KP alleged £18k - £25k a week, depending on which paper you read and over the 2 years he wants, why hasn’t he signed on the dotted line yet? I’m not claiming to know the answer to this, just wonder what we’re waiting for. I almost wish the club would say ’sign now or forget it, end of.’ We need to move on.
Bomber.
The blog seems a bit flat by your standards. Don’t despair, things will move soon. As people said at the time, JP wasn’t trying to sell the club. Quite sensibly he was re-iterating what he’s said before, that if an investor or purchaser is out there then he will listen to offers. This isn’t as an excuse not to invest but heads off the ‘Dismal Johnnies’ who will be condemning him if he doesn’t do a Ridsdale.
15 Happy.
You’ve missed the strangest piece of news by abandoning LW’s missive half way through. Apparently for some bizarre reason he is now driving all the way to Bristol to invest his pound in Camelot.
27 LW.
Replying to your question to Bomber. It’s difficult to name our best player as we have a quality squad. I can see your mistake as you only have to choose from 2 or 3.
Anyone else think that if KP goes then Michael Chopra might be more of a like for like replacement than Ameobi.
loffingwulf - googled it, and the only things that came up were surprisingly from these boards, posted by a Mr Loffingwulf….well done with that!
You definitely win that arguement by providing so much evidence penned by yourself! I bet you marked your own finance expert exams didn’t you?!
31. The reason he hasnt signed yet is that his advisors are still abroad (America I understand) tying up a deal for another one of their clients.
Once they’re back Kev will sign for Birmingham.
Read a quote from Mowbray from another site basically saying that Phillips wants to stay, Mowbray wants him to stay, but it doesn’t look as though it will happen as his advisors are swaying him to take the guaranteed 2 year contract at Blues, but they’re out of the country!!!
Looks like that’s that then
LW
You are clearly an intelligent person, but your comments are tedious.
You opine that KP and Gera are/were our best players, being a self confessed Wolf that appears to laugh a lot, just how can you form that opinion ?
You may be in danger of suffering from “glass houses” syndrome when speaking of DK,
he was rightly upset by some fans who gave him some unwarranted stick, he would be apoplectic if he played for the Wolves, who boo in numbers when the team is announced.
Hoefkens, AGAIN.
I have said in a previous thread,if you wish,
you can liken West Bromwich to Chernobyl, and Wolverhampton to the poshest of posh areas of Beverly Hills………..So what ?
it has no relevance to football whatsoever.
In FOOTBALL terms the Baggies are the Cote de Azur and Wolves are Rhyl.
Good luck to KP at the Blues. I can understand his thinking - there aren’t many 35 year old strikers in the Premiership and he will have 2 years in the Championship with them.
TM says Phillips is still undecided as his ‘advisers’ are abroad at present. Why can’t Phillips take one year with us, guaranteed, then another if he performs, or a second year with a CCC club if he isn’t Prem quality anymore? Makes sense to me and that way we all find out the truth. On a lighter note: Terry and Worcester, watch your maggots kids, everyone who posts is waiting with ‘baited’ breath, (I think they mean ‘bated’). As to this Russian geezer, I can recommend a wonderful and easy way to learn Russian. Get your old record player down from the loft, reverse the motor windings so that it plays backwards, put on any speaking or singing record, Voila! RUSSIAN! Once you’ve done it, you’ll see why the posh Russians all spoke French.
No 27 LW
Best player in my opinion was either Koren or Greening.
something else i did not mention in the blog, was the fact i hope Phillips appreciates he may not score as many goals for blues as their style of play doesnt create as many chances, well until they play the Wolves of course!!
Wednesbury, I was happy to read your post until until I reached the word Molinspew so I read no more. My mistake for thinking you were one of the good guys. I’ll chat to Bomber or Forever or even Happy instead. Bye bye.
dont forget that bednar had to fill in for both phillips and miller when they were out for about 12 games and had hes best period of scoring plus if gera was our quote best player how come he spent so much time on the bench
40,malvern, i bet wednesbury wont sleep tonite aye boing boing
Too right Terry, my heart bleeds for those poor little Wulfies that cant take a bit of banter!
31. the real bully, I am located in Gloucester already and travel to wolverhampton to matches 63 miles. Bristol to me is 25 minutes away.
come on guys im like terry here with you lot all biting im only having some banter. But my bias aside I do think you will go down unless 6-7 quality players come in, greening wasn’t good enough for the prem hence why he got released by borough and man utd although i rate him very highly, gera and phillips gone, the back 4 were not good enough for the championship conceeding alot of goals and alby has left, i don’t mean to be disrespectful or rude its justmy honest opinion or it’s banter lighten up my loves!
44 LW.
If you’re going to be like Terry you’ll need to develop a thicker skin and learn to take a bit of a verbal kicking. To be honest you could also put another record on, as the, ‘you’re two best players have gone etc’ is wearing a bit thin. Probably the reason you bring so much abuse on yourself. All the best mate. TRB.
44) The problem is mate they are of the belief that the side that lost 1 less game than us - who were poor last season - will survive with their attractive brand of football. Apart from the young Dutch lad, they have signed players that they had last season and have lost 2 of their better players.
Take a reality check. You need a goalie, 3 more defenders, another midfielder and at least 1 class forward!
