Walsall manager Jimmy Mullen has expressed his delight at installing John Schofield as his number two.
Former Lincoln manager Schofield has joined the club as first-team coach and started work when the players returned for pre-season training last week.
Mullen and Schofield have never worked together before but the manager knows all about his right-hand man.
He said: “John’s an experienced lad, he knows what I want and he’s a good coach. I’ve known John and spoke to him on numerous occasions.
“He has always come over very well and more than anything else he’s a very enthusiastic coach.
“I like that because I like the players to be enthusiastic as well. He’ll take on some of the responsibilities as I did with Richard last year and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“His knowledge of the game is very good. Between us, and I’m talking about all the staff, I’m hoping we’ll gel and continue to work well together.”
Schofield, 43, is a UEFA A license holder and is now working towards achieving his Pro License.
He said: “These are exciting times for the club and I am looking forward to being part of it.
“Part of my role here will be to make sure that the young players on the fringe of the first-team keep developing and making progress.”

Cue laughed at wolf now with his West Birmingham albion comments….
If Oleg wotsit owns LDV then does it not actually make sense that he may be interested in buying us ??
If he wants to sponsor us, then who knows, as Victor Kyam once said - “so good i brought the company” !!
If the Russians are pumping money into the club thru` sponsorship then its a good bet we`ll be in Russian hands before too long, if not this Oleg chap then one of his business aquaintances.
Typical. Not only are we getting Villa’s reject players, we get one of their reject sponsors too!!!!
A van company? Glamorous.
You couldn’t make it up…
i dont understand how that makes the story of oleg wide of the mark??? lazy dingle journos, even if it’s not true why say that? the words envious, jealous and bitter come to mind.
six figure sum woooooo big league money now lol
ONLY SIGNED THEM UP SO TO USE ONE OF THEIR VANS FOR THE TEAM BUS..
NEVER KNOWN A CLUB SO TIGHT..LOL
Does that mean there could be another Sherpa van and a Sherpa van trophy?
Greg - sorry, is there something wrong with vans now ??
I know you are desperate to make a witty comment - but if saying vans are rubbish is your idea of a “constuctive” comment (as you like to call it) then you really aint got a clue have you.
p.s - have you still got your Doritos sponsored shirt ? LOL.
Greg Cooper…..You could if you thought about it.
How about cheap sponsorship by an insurance or finance or something firm that no one has ever heard of coupled with a scally window salesman buying a football club for a tenner.
Actually that is a bit far fetched isn`t it.
surely if there was some interest from the russian owner of LDV there would be a bigger sponsor dealon the table than that a poor 6 figure sum?
In the current financial climate, why not follow the lead of Aston Villa and promote a local charity.
I see this potential link up with the Russians as very positive.
They may only invest at this stage via sponsorship (as JP suggested) but it will give then 1st hand knowledge of the club and form a link between us.
If we then manage to stay up this season then who know what that link may develop into ?
I think this could be a very positive step…. just a pity they only make vans though, eh greg ?
MR COOPER how can you knock the company that gave you your last cup, remember the sheppa cup.
Better than a crisp company like you muppets had not long ago…and a rubbish pack of crisps at that! Missing out on the play offs by one goal while we hold the championship trophy…you couldn’t make it up
i hear the wolves are after a new sponsorship deal. theyve gone one up on their previous sponsors of crisps, they are now turning to cerals. CHEERIOS
Happy_baggie
I’m glad you noticed this as well. Oleg Deripaska owns LDV but Im pretty dubious about the rumour and I think it was taken out of all context by saying Deripaska is interested in investing in WBA when in actual fact it was probably just LDV. Shame really but it was never really gonna happen was it LOL!
Villa.Villa out of interest what village are you the idiot for??
They sponsored YOU!!!
4. And Chaucer consultants are the Glam sponsor of the football league are they. Manders paint - Doritos - missing promotion by one place to your local rivals, being beaten 4 out of 5 times, missing promotion by one goal - YOU COULDN’T MAKE THAT UP! Carlsberg don’t do football rivals, but if they did……………
Honestly…..all of this banter from Villa fans and Wolves fans is so immature.Who cares who the sponsors are. Money is money.
The fact is that Wolves fans should be being a little more humble after their terrible showing last season AND the fact we have spanked them several times in recent years and Villa fans are understandably concerned as they have been the perennial underachievers and although they are by far the biggest club in the midlands our little club is entirely likely to steal their thunder this season with the way we play.
No blues fans on here i see. That is because they have the right attitude. They congratulated the Albion on going up and are concentrating on their own teams fortunes this season. Dingles and seals take note. They are TRUE fans.
monkeyboy….are you new on here? Not seen you before. Not one of those that suddenly jumps on the bandwagon now that the Baggies are back in the Premier are you ? If you had been a regular on these pages you would have noticed that many Wolves fans congratulated you on your FA Cup efforts and on your promotion. Yes there were one or two sourpusses around but in general I think the regulars on here would agree that the Wolves fans were honest and wished you all the best. So before you go on about being immature….think twice !!! Remember you gave and are still giving us a lot of stick about the Sherpa Van Trophy so you gotta expect a little bit back for LDV !! Comprende mi amigo ?
This is supposed to be a Saddlers thread about John Schofield!!!!…………..what’s going on E&S??????

Villa ARE a Charity mate, they gave us £10Million for a glass figurine. (only joking really).
