Jarvis relishes Kightly link

jarvis.jpgWolves winger Matt Jarvis is itching to link with with Michael Kightly for a full season after injuries kept the duo apart for most of last term.

The exciting widemen only started in the same Wolves side three times – the final three fixtures of the season.

Both have started pre-season in good shape and, after Kightly committed his future to the Molineux cause, Jarvis is excited.

He said: “It was great news that Kites signed a new contract this summer.

“We only had a couple of games together towards the end of last season so fingers crossed we’ll both be starting this time on the opposite wings.

“It’s a prospect we’d both be looking forward to.

“Perhaps we should have scored more goals last season and that’s something myself and Kites would like to help.

“Hopefully we can provide some decent crosses and get some goals ourselves to make a difference.”

Jarvis has his fingers crossed for a positive pre-season this year 12 months after the start of his Molineux career was hit by an early injury.

“It’s been a good start, easing us in. It’s been hard some days and a bit easier on others, as everyone starts to work towards fitness.

“Last season was a nightmare when I got injured in the second friendly.

“Fingers crossed this year I can have a good full pre-season which then leads into a full injury-free season as well. That’s certainly what I’m hoping for.

“Getting that good pre-season is so important because it gives you that stamina base to last the whole campaign.

“I had the injury last season but managed to play a lot more over the second half and that’s what I’m hoping to carry into this campaign.

“If you’ve come through pre-season training is then almost just a case of ticking along .

“If you don’t, you end up playing catch-up the whole time like I was last season.

“Hopefully this year will be different and I will be flying for the whole season.”

Jarvis is looking forward to launching into his second season at Molineux with action in the pre-season friendly programme.

“The games themselves are about getting back into the rhythm and getting your fitness back.

“Of course you want to play well but it’s more about fitness and getting back into the swing of things.

“We start with Wrexham and you always know it’s not necessarily so much of a friendly against teams from the lower leagues or non-league.

“They are always well up for it because they want to take a scalp but in turn that should make it a really good workout.”

I read on a Wigan webpage that kevin Kilbane is on a free - i think he’d be a good pick up …. lots of experience in the prem for a few clubs, can play Left Mid or Centre Mid (even left back), i guess his wages wont be mega comming from wigan and he fits the ‘old head’ thing Moxey’s been talking about.

Ok - we played for Sandwell but it was a while ago now!!

I just hope the whole team come through pre-season unscathed.
However,I’m going to miss the start of the season, due to going into Hospital for neck/spine surgery on the 13th of August.
Good luck to Wolves & the other “Black Country” teams for 2008-2009 season.

How about this for a starting line up -
Hennessy, Foley, Ekolobi, Stearman, AN OTHER CH (Berra, Davenport), Jarvis, Henry/Edwards (holding midfield), Keogh/Davies (attacking midfield, Kightly, SEB, Vokes

  16. dapster50 said:

Item 12 no Jones????? Why not, he is a very good footballer.

  17. brummie rob wolves said:

The wide men are top drawer and we have Gobern and Jones as cover. Chopra would definitely be a good signing, as we can’t be held to ransom by Peterborough. A couple of old heads and we could be a match for anyone in the division with quality cover. The only bad thing that has happened close season is the Collins contract extension!

  18. rich5wolves said:

chopra can do it at this level so lets bag him. Forget Mclean and go for him.

We still have no cover for the wingers, and our downfall last season started when we lost both of them at once.

Without winger cover we are going to have the same issue at some stage next season.

I see on todays Transfer News that MM is looking at buying another striker. Why? How many strikers does a team without reserves really need?

How about a good, complete defence and mid-field, so the strikers don’t have to spend half their lives assisting the defence, and just get on with scoring!

  21. Bridget & Tony said:

11 Kent Wolf - Good luck & hope it goes well matey; hopefully MM will have a few more players and especially another centre half with pace!

  22. SUPERSTARDJWOLVES said:

    Comment 5, yea quality match…

Anyway, lets get some more players in. I guess I think once Oli and Eastwood, goes I think we probably will get in McLean, Berra and hopefully 1 more midfielder, would be nice to get some in from the premiership to steady the ship.
Just depends who they can get in….

  23. W'field wolf said:

    No - 20

I think MM might see Killbane as the cover for the left wing

  24. wolveswolves said:

Both Kites and Jarvis is an exciting prospect. It a shame the center of the park is where we will lose most matches

  25. yazooooo said:

Get in Chopra on a 3 year deal and Kilbaine on a 2 year contract ….. playoffs as a minimum

  26. Billericay Wolf said:

Good luck Kent Wolf. I hope it goes well.

  27. Nedball said:

Kilbane was quality at the Albion, although his legs were much faster then!

I think he’d still be able to do a very good job though, so he’d be a good asset for you….plus he’s got that experience your management team keep on about bringing in.

However the one concelation you have is, you dont have to watch WW get beat, and then listen to mad MM blameing the fans. Reference cover for your Wingers, you have S Ward

  30. brummie rob wolves said:

    28) Spot on but I don’t agree with Norway Wolf on the cover issue. Gobern and Jones are very good wide men also!

Talking of wingers, I’ve just finished reading “Waggy’s Tales”. What a great winger he was. This book was mentioned here a while ago and it’s a really good read, particularly if you used watch the Wolves in the 70’s. It raises the question of how much more might have been achieved with that squad if McGarry hadn’t been such a poor man manager (and also hinted that Ronnie Allen might have been sacked too soon - he assembled the bulk of the squad that McGarry inherited). At one point, Waggy said that the team virtually picked itself for three years (when we were 4th in the league, nearly won the UEFA cup and won the league cup) but the decline set in when the team was chopped and changed because McGarry couldn’t make up his mind between Kindon, Sunderland, Daley and Richards up front and other players were swapped about a bit like Powell and Hibbitt. They’d call it rotation these days. What Waggy says about playing 60 matches in a season and then going on a 12 match tour of the USA in the summer makes a mockery of the current bleating about players not being able to play twice a week and needing to be rested. HIghly recommended book.

looking good, hope the best of the players from last season can kick on and improve, helping new signings fit in and hit the ground running come the start of the season.

still need to get rid of a few of the ‘jokers’ from last season and bring in chopra, kilbane, dnt know too much about berra but at least MM is looking for another CB.

It’s make it or break it for MM this season so lets get behind the lads from the word go!

29 that is very true coming froma baggie and to be honest he played pretty well there av him on bench, cuz jarvis and kites can play both wings well jarvis for sure and kites did play well on left but we do need a right winger but left wouldn’t be to bad, scott sinclair on loan? or halmosi not sure bout right wing. we need berra(main priority i say), get maclean and chopra. strikers seb keogh chopra maclean. note ward is now a winger!. As for center mid henry might not be mint but you’ll always get a gd ball from him, and edwards works hard and aint had much chance yet but has played well and davies will wanna prove himself again, so i think we’re alright there. so 2 strikers a centre half and a winger(preferably right). ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT?
