Club hit by arson attack

wd2900232nytro-7-dh-1.jpgArsonists set fire to a West Bromwich town centre club early today. It is believed fires were started at about five  locations in the Nytro Nightclub.

The venue was closed and empty at the time. It was being renovated and it was cordoned off today.

Firefighters with fire service dogs trained to sniff out accelerants, police and forensic specialists were at the scene today.

Detective Chief Inspector Danny Long said: “We are treating it as suspicious.  Thankfully no one was hurt.

“Police and fire officers were on the scene very quickly which really helps our investigations because it means there is more for our forensic officers to look at.”

“There is more than one ‘seat’ to the fire, it started in more than one place but we don’t know exactly how many though.”

Crews from West Bromwich, Smethwick, Oldbury and Wednesbury went to Lombard Street West at about 12.08.

The fire is estimated to have caused up to £10,000  damage and police were today talking to the owners and the licensee.

Flames damaged the main dance hall and melted electrical cables. All of the wiring for the PA system and the lighting had melted, with the plastic dripping down onto seats.
