Baggies’ Kim to miss Olympics

Kim Do-Hoen celebratesAlbion will not lose midfielder Kim Do-Heon to the Olympics after the South Korean was left out of his nation’s squad for Beijing.

Kim had hoped to be included in the squad for the August games as an over-age player in the under-23s tournament.

Yet the 25-year-old has been overlooked by coach Park Sung-hwa, meaning he will not miss any of Albion’s Premier League matches.

Park picked Seongnam Chunma defensive midfielder Kim Jung-woo in preference to Kim.

He said: “Kim Jung-woo is a defensive midfielder who also excels at supporting the attack.

“He is a better defender than Kim Do-heon and that made the difference in our decision.

“Kim Dong-jin is nearly recovered from his knee injury. His deadball prowess as a left-footer gives us another dimension, and his wealth of experience in international matches could prove to be crucial.”

But Albion could still lose a player to the Olympics with new signing Gianni Zuiverloon in contention for Holland’s Beijing squad.

The 21-year-old is looking forward to his first season at The Hawthorns and revealed he turned to advice from Liverpool winger Ryan Babel before signing a three-year deal.

Zuiverloon has been close friends with Babel since helping Holland to retain the European Under-21 Championships on home soil last summer.

He sought his guidance before agreeing to move to the Hawthorns in a £3.2m deal from Heerenveen.

Zuiverloon said: “Before I signed for Albion, I spoke to Ryan and he said this was a big step for me – but I will be all right.

“I played against him in the Dutch League and I always said I was going to play against him in the Premier League one day.

“I hope I can adapt to the Premier League as well as he has.”

Disappointed for the lad, but I think there is more to this than meets the eye - after all the lad scored a hat trick in their last game….

I think the baggies have arranged this - a sign of how highly TM rates him and an indication of him being a regular starter for us next season ??

Also i think Kim is quite keen to get into the team - remember he sent TM his wedding photos to prove what a great guy he is !!!!

whats happening with phillips he said his future would be sorted at the weekend? gera and phillips have had a complete lack of respect for westbrom. along with hoefkins who i wuld of fined for saying “its a poverty stricken industrial area” and dean kielys comments about the fans. I think mowbrays a good manager but needs to get his discipline sorted. his real test begins now: 2 best players out, a good prospect in, survival is the challenge.

Lets’s sign Kim Jung Woo then!! Defensive Midfielder, and then we’ll have 2 Koreans, which will help them both…..plus if he’s that good, let’s get him in for when the Olympics are done!

Or, as the Korean manager pointed out, there are better players for him to select for his Olympic squad than Kim.

I can understand you trying to put a positive spin on this one, Happy, but surely it does not bode particularly well for you? I’m sure you appreciate me commenting on this story, especially considering how you see fit to ‘constructively’ comment on most Wolves articles on the E&S site yourself.

Strange one, but it has to be beneficial to the Albion in the short term for him not to play for his country. He is needed here if Sir Tony wants him to play, as it is going to be hard as we know. He could easily be called to the olympics and get injured and so why take the risk ? Yes I think everyone would want to go and try to get a medal, but I think most if asked want him here ? Kim probably wants to go, so we feel for him.

i disagree with your comment entirely, Hoefkins apparently said this however I never heard about it, who says he said it with a smile on his face, it could have been out of sympathy, lets face it West Bromwich/Wolves isnt a nice place at the best of times. Doesnt necessarily mean he was mocking the area.
As for Philips and Gera, they are 2 of the very few remaining pro’s in English football and they wouldnt know the meaning of the word disrespect. You forget that your talking about

    a) a guy who was tracked by Lazio and opted to try his trade elsewhere after 3 seasons of transfer speculation

    b) an ageing hitman who could have yet another year as a local hero and get paid more money than the season before that!!

In all honesty judging by previous comments left I think your just trying to rile us up.

It’s almost like a new signing, in the absence of any others.

Gregg - comment away…. thats what these forums are about.

If their manager feels he has better players available then fine - I have no way of knowing who Koreas best players are…. but I do know that our Kim did score a hat trick in their last game and has been a regular player for them.

Whether their manager wants a change or the baggies have stepped in I don’t know - but it seems weird to drop a player playing well for club and country don’t you think ?

Oh dear - I see laughed at wolf has taken a moment from the board rooms of industry to enlighten us with his witty comments - just a pity he only has one record (Sandwell slums blah blah, Hoefkens said blah blah…)

Change the record you one trick muppet and maybe you wouldn’t get ridiculed everytime you post….

But thanks for taking the time from making millions in investments to join in.

albionfivepointer - We’ve signed Kim, Bednar, Moore, Dorrans, Zuiverloon permanently and Danek on loan again.

You’ve signed Jones, Stearman and Vokes…..I think we’ve done better so far!

5 pints….still better than not being invited to the party!

have you any firm evidence about lazio? as you say somebody could of wrote it with a smile on their face?! K Phillips and gera made your fans hang on stating that there was still hope and then they go with no thanks! Hoefkins comments were disrespectful. The wolverhampton area is considerably better than westbromwich but i would of still been offended.

  12. laughingwolf said:

happy-baggie its only you that takes offence I am giving a serious opinion. not like you on the wolves pages you muppet.

  13. BoingBoing666 said:

well im not going to get drawn into a debate over what area is more desirable simply because iv come on here to speak about football. Unfortunately i cant give you any proof over the Lazio claim, lest we forget their not as big as they used to be and yes it did surprise me also.
on that note where are these comments regarding Hoefkins, are there audio clips or videos of him disrespecting WB??
If im totally honest its the 1st iv heard of it and depending on the source it came from it may not be the most reliable origin.
I’ll miss both Gera and KP this coming season like every other fan will, i still have respect for them as they do for us as im sure you’ll see when we face Fulham and the season after when Bloues are promoted and we see them in the Premiership, hopefully alongside you Canary Wharf lot down the road.

  14. Nedball said:

Laughing - I think both you and Happy have valid points. You made a comment which had your opinion and a point you were trying to make, but then you added in, as you regularly do, the Hoefkens ‘quote’, when it wasn’t needed. That’s what I think Happy’s trying to say, there’s no point! Do you see us posting stuff about SEB running down the street attacking people with his handbag for no reason?!

  15. Happy_baggie said:

laughed at - yes i read your “serious” comments on investments too….

So when gary breen and Kightly came out and said the fans boos are costing the team home points did they get sacked ??

If Hoefkens did describe West bromwich as a run down industrial area - was he lying ??

I know Wolverhampton has been listed as a city of outstanding natural beauty to rival Geneva and Olso but pleeeese don’t make us feel bad !!

Oh how i love to see the deer and rabbits frolicking around low hill and heath town….

sign some real prem quality and then we will listen to you.

    15. agreed there are some parts of Wolverhampton that are a bit rough but that actualy describes the the whole of West Brom or is it Hole.
nice when one of your players tells it has it is though. probably what they all think.

  27. Nedball said:

25 - Who? Stearman, Vokes and Jones? Yes I know they’re not!

Kim, Bednar and Moore could do a very good job in the Prem in my opinion, and having never seen Danek or Zuiverloon, I couldn’t make that call yet…..but a manager who knows what he’s doing could.
I work in Wolvo, in the fantastic area of Chapel Ash, just down the road from the Custard Bowl, another lovely area to add to your list if we want to start saying ‘my town’s nicer than yours’!

Another futile debate, on this occasion instigated by LW`s “stuck record” posts regarding comments made allegedly by Carl Hoefkens.

Let us assume for the moment that West Bromwich is twinned with Chernobyl, and Wolverhampton is a posher borough of Beverly Hills………..SO WHAT !!!!
Of what possible relevance has that got to do with football ?

In FOOTBALL parlance The Baggies are the
Cote de Azur and Wolves are Rhyl.

  30. Happy_baggie said:

    26 - “a bit rough” ??

There are parts of Wolvo that make Barter Town look normal !!

    and i aint jesting !
