Striker backing for Jones

ebanks-blake.jpegStriker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake believes new signing David Jones is a Premier League player who will add a different dimension to Wolves.

The pair came through the ranks together at Manchester United and won the FA Youth Cup in 2003.

Ebanks-Blake revealed midfielder Jones set up goals galore for him in their time at Old Trafford.

The powerful striker believes his team-mate has found the right platform to showcase his talents at Molineux.

He said: “I know David very well from my time at Manchester United. He’s a good lad and a very good player.

“I was really pleased to see him come here – he’s an intelligent footballer and a left-footed midfielder, which is something we hadn’t got in the squad

“For me he’s a good all-round addition to a really good squad.

“I think he’ll really excel here and really show his true colours.

“He’s very good on the ball, an excellent passer and a good finisher as well.

“I don’t want to hype him up too much, it’s just a case of ‘watch him do his stuff’.

“He set up enough goals for me when we were at United so I hope that can continue here – that would be brilliant.”

On his arrival, Jones admitted he had something to prove following his move from relegated Derby, where he lost his place through injury and form last season before regaining his spot towards the end of their tortuous campaign.

Ebanks-Blake reckons the cultured left-footed passer will prove a real hit in his new surroundings.

He said: “He might feel he has something to prove but, for me, he’s just got to go out and play his game and I’m sure everyone will take to him.

“He just needs to be given the right platform to prove he’s a good player.

“I feel he’ll get that at this club and take the opportunity with both hands.

“He’s the right sort of person and the right sort of character. I know what he’s about, and the staff at United thought highly of him.

“We won virtually every youth honour going together at United. We had some good players and it’s good to have some promising players here.

“Jonah’ will fit in no problem.”

Why is it that anyone who is left-footed gets given the tag “cultured left-foot”? Reckon I could take this to Brussels on the grounds of blatant footism?

4 - Jermaine Wright is shocking!!! Idiakez is a possible but I would rather try for Campo or Gravesen. I am sure Jones will prove himself if given the chance

Hopefully SEB and “Jonah” know each other’s game inside out, thus improving SEB’s already impressive return for us so far.

I think we still need a hard man in midfield to drive us forward when times are not so good (and there will be such times).

Also, who would you appoint as captain?

  9. raffo said:

i would give it kites the captaincy, but knowing mick it will be henry

  10. Nedball said:

Idiakez and Wright are BOTH shocking!!
Stern John would be a good signing for you lot though. Nearly 20 goals in an awful team last season aint bad is it?! Plus he’s got loads of experience….does that fill your requirements Mad Mickey?

If we sign Mclean, with the forwards we have, and as long as the rotation of strikers is not abused to silly levels, I think we could well be leading goal scorers this season! if we score avg 2 per game, they need 3 to beat us, that’s a good starting point me thinks!

Bitch! bitch! bitch! any possibility of some comment that may provoke a healthy debate here? Are we going to be contenders or do we need a more water tight defensive line up, is M.M. the man? would Paul Ince had he been manager done us any good? if so would he still be here or would we have been a stepping stone? is the return of the blue smartie valid? Come on guys and girls, get adult.

Also, as you point out, we are a very poor town side, but we did manage to beat that great city team of yours & to finish as Champions when you could only manage 7th due to you inability to score goals & entertain.Hows that big rich city boy!. Get a life loser!.
