Michael Kightly insists Aaron McLean could become a real Molineux cult hero if he signs for Wolves.
Mclean rocked Peterborough yesterday when he slapped in a transfer request after refusing a new contract.
Posh insist they will accept nothing less than £5m for the 33-goal League Two top scorer – £3m up front and £2m on promotion.
Now McLean’s desire to leave could test the London Road club’s resolve, as they have an unhappy player on their hands.
The player’s agent James Barrett claims ‘broken promises’ led to the transfer request.
He said: “He was told the club would not stand in his way if a bigger club came in.”
Kightly, who played with McLean at Blue Square Premier side Grays, believes his former team-mate would be a big hit with Wolves fans.
He said: “He’s very hungry and wants to do well like me. The supporters would take to him.
“Potentially, he is a fans’ favourite if he does come because of the way he plays.
“He wears his heart on his sleeve and scores goals. It’s just whether his signing can be agreed.”
“First and foremost, he’s a very hard-working player who works his socks off all day long.
“If players give 110 per cent, fans can relate to that and they’re more likely to take to a player.
“He’s a little, tough terrier. He might only be 5ft 8ins tall but he jumps 7ft . He jumps so high, it’s scary really.”
Kightly also believes that the player would survive playing a higher standard of football.
“He scored 33 goals in League Two so he knows where the net is, and, given the chance to do that in the Championship.
“He will relish that and would be a great signing for us.
“I’m not saying he’ll score 30-plus goals at this level but if he gets the chances, he’ll score a few.
“‘Blakey’ is proven at this level and Andy Keogh is still young but is as good as anyone in the Championship.
“Sam Vokes looks like he’s going to be a great player and if we could get Aaron McLean in, that would only strengthen us.”

get him in !
Fair play Kites but didnt you say the same about freddy!!
I think kites is going to give us a big season this year just like he did when he first came to the club
There can only be two that play though, and yes it’s great to have strength in depth, but he’s not going to want to come here to be a squad player.
Whether people like it or not, SEB and Keogh will be Mick’s main two next year with Vokes as the ‘impact player’ coming off the bench as Kyle did last year.
SEB is a fantastic player as we all know, but I doubt he’d get that many goals next year if Keogh wasn’t along side him. He’s not the kind of player who creates chances for himself, he’s a poacher. That’s the same type of player that McLean is, and we can’t have two of the same player in the team can we?
£5million would more than pay for a top players wages for a couple of years provided we got them on a free, or it could pay for another central defender. But it is way too much to ‘waste’ on a squad player.
hmmm, fairplay. at least we have an honest opinion on a player none of us have seen play. no-one can really disagree with kights, as he played with him at Grays. Might be “the missing piece” but where would Keogh and Vokes play?
he would be a good addition but we really need to get rid of a few strikers first, i think a new center back and midfielder are needed
Fair enough Kites, but this time last year weren’t you also quoted as saying that Freddy Eastwood would be a great acquisition for us as well? If we do end up signing Aaron then I hope to God we don’t pay stupid money for him.. plus we still have a few other irons in the fire if rumours are to be believed.
No thank’s!,he’s not worth the money that peterborough are asking for him, move on to the next target.
I wonder if we signed this guy on KIGHTLYS ENDORSEMENT and he was rubbish who the fans would turn on for signing him? Mick and Moxey ofcourse !!!! If he was good though that would ALL be down to Kightly OFCOURSE! You’ve got to laugh!
DEJA VU!!
Im sure this time last year Michael you said they same about a Mr. Eastwood. LOL
Lets hope this is different.
Personnelly I think its a big gamble and a lot of money for someone not proven at this level, thats my only concern.
Not too sure about Kightly’s former team mates and players he’s recommended in the past, look what happened to Freddy Eastwood. Its all going to end in tears (or in us Wolves’ case booing!).
I think he would be a great signing - just bid 2 mil plus Elliott & Potter. Get on with it!!!
3M up front and 2M on promotion - so 3M then….
I take it Mclean IS a great player after all now his move may be back on.
I get dizzy trying to keep up with you guys - you turn round so fast my neck hurts.
KITES YOUR NEW MANAGER THEN AYE BOING BOING
Only worthwhile if we get him for the fee he warrants… about £250 to £750K for a player at this level.
All the talk of millions for a player who is 25 and has never played higher than league 2 is ridiculous!
Matt Posh
Are you still PMSL??? or should be crying, hope you have noticed the words “bigger club”
Lets see if you stil as smug now???
You are & always will be lower down the ‘food chain’
Know Your Place!!!!
I have just heard the best news I could have asked for today…Dwight Yorke will NOT be coming to Wolves as he’s signed a 1 year extension with Sunderland.
THANK CHRIST!
kightly 25000 mclean 3000000. McLean appears overpriced to me especially if there are add ons also. It seems prudent and good sense if we have a surplus of strikers we cannot off load Elliot, Bothroyd,Ward,Eastwood and others.Terewill always be strikers knocking on the 1st team door. So forget overpriced McLean and concentrate on a quality central defender and an experienced midfielder to jell it all together.
Eastwood didnt score 30+ goals tho.
He would be a great buy but don t pay over the odds really looking forward to the season.
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AGES A POSITIVE COMMENT..YES TOTALLY AGREE MCLEAN WOULD BE A GOOD SIGNING..NOT SURE ABOUT THE PRICE THO’ SEEMS A BIT HIGH GIVEN IS CAREER LEVELS SO FAR. WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIM UP FRONT WITH BLAKEY NEXT SEASON.
LETS HOPE IT COMES OFF..SOONER THE BETTER..GET HIM IN FOR THE PRE SEASON GAMES.
HAHA LOOKS LIKE KEOGH’S GONNA GET FREDDY’S JOB..WARMING THE BENCH..LMAO
What an unappropriate name you have “Grace”.
He may have gone onto the transfer list at his own request but that changes nothing as he was effectively on it anyway. He was always available at £3m + add ons and he still is. Meet the asking price, maybe throw in Eastwood and we’ll start talking.
The hilarious thing is your scouting system. You miss out on McLean for £150k then want to pay £3m for him. Now you’re looking at McLean and ignoring the real talent in our team which is Craig Mackail-Smith and Boyd - MUGS!!!!

as u often say to wolves fans on the albion page,
“who cares what you think?
As the posters have brought Eastwood into this article I’ll continue on that theme.
Coventry have branded Wolves a mickey mouse outfit carrying on a vendetta against FE because they (Cov), have offered to pay half the compensation to expedite the transfer. Wolves declined the offer and refuse to pay any compensation.
There is only one way to deal with the playground bully; give him a good whacking behind the bike shed.
Give the bully a good whacking Freddie; Take Wolves to court. You know it makes sense.
given them a player, someone rubbish. They wont know the diffrence.
Is no one else worried about the attitude of this player? is he going to give us a season of (hopefully) good football and then go in a sulk when Everton or Blackburn want him regardless of whether we get promoted. Don’t forget this guy was playing conference level football not so long ago and suddenly wants no more to do with Posh.
Got to agree with WetWolf. The asking price is way too high for a player who’s in his mid twenties and never played at a decent level. Nobody else is sniffing around him and we’re not desperate for him yet so why not wait till the January window? An unhappy player will drop in value and it gives us more time to see what he’s got in his locker
Don’t really want McLean, and the end of the day we have a 20 goal striker in Ebanks-Blake, and needs a target man or bigger player to play with, Sam Vokes fits the bill and Keogh is good for 10-15 goals next season - I don’t want to pay 2 million + for a sub. League Two to Championship is a massive jump, Izale McLeod never made it, hardly scored for Charlton. Yes its the same job putting the ball in the back of the net but Defenders and Goalkeepers are better restricting his chances. Yes, you will all say well Kightly made it blabla yes but he is a winger, his pace gets him past the players, so its much easier for a winger than a striker.
And yes, i’m a real Wolves fan I just don’t want McLean!
two million now….one million if we go up and he scores 15 or more goals..
If I win the euro lottery I’ll buy him for Wolves myself. He gets goals, works hard and I think Kites is an intelligent guy who knows his players.
get him in
Ebanks and Kites are our two best/key players.
Jones is big pals with Ebanks whom together had alot of success at Man U. Kites and Mclean are obviously big buddies maybe with a less glamourous pedigree, but never the less shared success on the same pitch.
Mick is feeding his two best assets with two players they will obviously respond to.
Its an astute bit of management.
Oh and 33 goals at any level is nothing to be sniffed at.
Sign him.
Should we just rebrand you lot as Grays Old Boys?!
Sorry, that would discount all of the Paddy’s wouldn’t it?!
What about Grays O’ld boys?
offer £2.5m with no add on clauses and no negotiation, if they say no forget him and move onto the next target
Kitely always talks up his mates (dont forget Eastwood)
This lad seems promising but hasnt been tested at a good level yet and is short enough to be in panto as a dwarf !
Mclean would be a good signing but why don’t wolves try and get matt derbyshire from blackburn on loan for the season. It would be less of a risk and he has proven himself to score goals at the highest level whereas mclean has scored goals in league 2.
Not sure about this one, seems a lot of money for a 25 year old who hasn’t played higher than league two, plus I think he would only be backup for seb, from what I hear they are similar kinds of player, altho if seb picks up an injury….
I have been a posh supoort for years since i was a lad now im pushing on the 80′S born and bread in Peterborough i run the posh suporters trust he isnt worth the money they are asking belive me Barry Fry has a bee in his bonnet total joke
Wally
but he can score goals on a good day tho !
Just got some stats about matt derbyshire. Last season he played 7 games and scored 5
Don’t pay £3 million. A certain club down the road got conned into that with a Villa reject.
I agree with 3). He would probably not be first choice.
Still plenty of activity. We are way ahead of the game in comparison to other clubs in the West Midlands. Have you all heard Naylor to the Villa?
derbyshire scored last season for blackburn 7 goals in 5 games in the premier league. Gdet him on loan and he will be a 20 goal a season man.
Bit of a nerve from Kightly considering he is always injured - few good games in an average team and thinks he’s the man- as a season ticket holder in the billy wright have to say i would sell kightly tomorrow for first bid 1m plus and as for ebanks- blake worst striker since Robert Taylor- i just cant believe that some other fans i know seriously think we will finish top 6 next season- at least im a realist and with this squad i will be happy to see us stay up
38, We get your point.
Now wake up and smell the coffee!
Happy, you used to have a bit of respect on here from most Wolves fans but now you post a load of tripe.
I think your trying to be Like Terry baggie but the thing is he is actually funny where as your just sad.
Of the 11 comments posted b4 you on this I count only 3 saying we should sign McClean.
Also, wasnt the Albectson a similar story for your fans. He was excellent and now he has moved its a case of “not bothered anyway”.
Grow up Happy and go back to the sensible posts you used to make.
Southbank barmy army
Great comment mate i would also like to see mclean at wolves and starting match s alongside blakey. Keogh would be good coming off the bench and would add more impact but i personally don t think he scores enough to start
Would this really be the right deal for us? From what I read here, I’m not the only one who feels uneasy about it.
37, Naylor to the villa, i hope so. another great player that wolves fans booed everytime he came on the pitch, and look at him at celtic, he was a hero. We dont deserve decent players at the wolves, because we treat them shite
why play keogh??? he was cack last season. SEB will score goals full stop. Keogh has been found out i’m afraid. get this guy in (although the price is too high). maybe offer them 2M plus elliot and potter.
would be good aquisition but not at the sort of money posh are asking.
we have still to shift out our unwanted strikers, bothroyd, elliot, eastwood and maybe s.ward too.
can anyone confirm that southampton have freed ikadaez(sorry if spelling wrong) were we not looking at this midfielder a couple of seasons ago. i seem to remeber him scoring some good goals was it with derby. if he’s a free might be worth a look. if anyone knows more and how he did last season let us know.
still no news on the berra front. its their lithuanian owner he a dictator/crackpot and trys to control all aspects of the club but no one can pin him down to make decision. hearts are massively in debt and will sell, they need to sell players to keep going.
come on the wolves here’s to a good season.(still have doubts re mick but would love to be wrong)
I’m not so sure this is what we need. Yes we need a good striker to partner SEB and if it’s not freddy it has to be outside the club.
I think we need to first clear the deadwood from the squad
it makes me laugh how everyone says in football that no player is bigger than their club but the fans that are pro-Freddy must never have heard this…FE take us to court…Freddy your the best thing since sliced bread…Freddy you are great go away and come back and score a hat-rick against us…it’s idiotic he’s a second rate championship striker half of his goals for southend in the championship were pens which leaves about 8 or 9 from open play…same as keogh’s strike rate i make it and keogh is a much better team player than FE. Sooner he (FE) is gone the better and our club can move on from this farce…young and hungry no Freddy is jst hungry for more money!!!
TOMO..CORRECT ABOUT KEOGH..LIKE HIM AS A PLAYER, BUT NOT A STRIKER..BUT ALWAYS WORTH INCLUDING IN THE LINE UP..BE IT STARTING OR ON THE BENCH.
steve Tranter…..believe me Naylor is no hero at Celtic, let’s just say he had a good start but then went quickly downhill to his normal level
We need 4 forwards, so if this is who the manager wants, go get him!!!
Matt_Posh dont those grape taste sour????
PMSL……..at posh
Southern 41 - I’m just saying that its highly amusing the way “some” of your fans post about how great a player is one day when you’re linked to him, the next day he is rubbish cos he aint coming, then the next day he is a world beater cos the deal is back on - its bewildering.
You did the same with Kightly and Oli - when they may be leaving they are rubbish (injured, lightweight, plays 1 in 6 ect…) but when they stay they are the golden boy and the vierra of the championship.
As for Albrechson - there was never a “got to keep him” feeling about him - he really is only average…. we were very disappointed to lose gera, but understand that money talks these days. I haven’t read a single poster saying Gera was rubbish.
44 - That’s the most sensible thing I’ve seen posted on these boards in a long time!
I can’t believe how much stick you lot give your team / board / manager / coaches.
No wonder they all have to come out in the press to ask you to get off their backs!!
Plus, you all seem to argue with each other all day long…..it’s a great read though!!
Lee Naylor to VILLA!!! GOD has the world gone mad!
Grumpy Ole Man
What a pathetic comment
Endorsing Eastwood to sue our club because he has been treated badly in your deluded mind ?
I take it you must be a releative to Freddy to make such a horrible comment about our club.
GET HIM!! IVE SAID FOR AGES FOR US TO GET HIM!
Barmy Army
Gotta agree with Glorybox about Naylor. He’s become a target of the boo boys at Celtic Park. Hope he goes to Villa though, it would make a nice change for them to get our dodgy cast-offs.
31,ball, who is your next target youv already been through leagues 1n2 n half the chumpionship maybe you can look in holland aye boing boing
24,funrichwilf, anyone of your lot then, aye boing boing
38,wilf, with all those goal scorers youv got or havin, you,l score more than the 100 n odd we did last season, aye boing boing
55,arar,its the fans who should be teking um to court under the trades description act, aye boing boing up the MOWBURY WAY
21) You are missing the point. Maclean was told that if a bigger club came in, he would be allowed to talk to them. Only the other day, Darren Ferguson said he was happy where he is…. not so!
The player is not worth £3 million. Throw in Eastwood? A regular for Wales, I don’t think so.
Our scouting system over the last few years has brought in many good, young players - Foley, Elokobi, Kightly, Jarvis, Edwards, Ebanks-Blake, Stearman etc.
Freddy Eastwood, Jay Bothroyd & Stephen Elliot are still under contract.
Couldn’t we offer them in part ex?
SEND THEM A JOB LOT OF OUR REJECTS AND GET HIM OVER TO US…HE WANTS TO PLAY FOR US, SO THAT IS A GOOD START…..HOPE HE INVITES MM OVER FOR TEA THOUGH OTHERWISE HE WONT GET PLAYED!!!
LOVES SCORING GOALS AND SEEMS LIKE AN ADE AKINBIYI
62) No McLean wasn’t told that - that’s his agent trying to cause a stir in the national press. He was told (as was all the players) that they would be free to go if a PREMIERSHIP club came in for them. Darragh MacAnthony has always said that he wouldn’t sell to an average Championship club which whether you like it or not - is what you are.
As for the last part of your post - How many times have you seen Stearman play?? The mass over reaction on here to players is a joke! You change your minds more than you change your underwear!
If Eastwood’s a regular for Wales then he’d feel at home at Posh alingside Craig Morgan (Wales regular) and England squad member Joe Lewis.
I doubt whether he is worth anything like the Posh asking price and if he is a goal poacher like SEB, then there isn’t enough room to accomodate two of the same ilk. He would however be good backup if SEB were injured..:-)
3 mill is a lot for Maclean, that is more than Miller and Bednar Cost the Albion and more than SEB cost the Wolves. At that amount it would be a big gamble
Gera was rubbish !
Yes gera was very overated.
matt_posh - wolves fan writing in peace here.
all sniping and joking aside, do you seriously rate the guy at even £3 million, let alone the possible £5 million that’s being quoted ?
seems from other posh fans on here that may be he’s not worth that much ?
if Eastwood is only worth tops £1.5 million, if Sylvan Ebanks Blake (at the time of signing) was only worth the £1.5 million we paid for him, If last season Sheffield Utd pay Scunthorpe £1.5 for Billy Sharp (possibly rising to £2 million) then how can Posh seriously justify this fee for a guys who has only ever played at a lower level than all three of those strikers ?
We may well be “an average championship club” but does that mean we should pay what seems like a grossly infalted transfer fee ?
Would be interested in your thoughts.
cheers.
64. Ade akinbyi!!! You fool was he not the worst ever striker in prem history??
68. Gera is still god wolves 0-1 albion (gera)
Part of great escape…
Scored in the famous ‘pie and a pint’ match..
We love you zolt….
Now as for ‘could be cult hero’ Yeah could be after all your best ever was bully and he never ever played prem football…. BEFORE You all go off on one about England, yes he played a couple of games but just look who we had at the time…. Lineker, Big chin,….. not much else….
N ot much to do then elikescakes….
Happy, your bunch may have been a little more understanding over Gera and Albrechtsen but I clearly remember the ranting on Radio WM from your lot every saturday when Mowbury first joined. He was given no chance or tolerance when the initial results went against them. I simply refuse to believe that all baggie fans have the patience and wisdom of a tibetan monk and can only assume you are viewing the situation through rose coloured glasses. Patience is easy when the side is succeeding, wait till adversity kicks in next season, I give it four games till the enquiry starts into why no real quality was bought in. Oh and the ‘at least we’ve been to the premiership’ approach will just be a hollow echo by christmas.
what are we going to do with all these strikers!?does mick realise how many we have?
65 - why do you take so much intrest in us if were “a average championship club” as you say whether you like it or not maclean wants to play for us.
theres no way i would pay more than 2m as hes 25 not 17-20 & sooner or later they will lower there asking price as he wont be making much effort if he wants too leave.
I echo blondewolf NO MORE STRIKERS PLS.
52. have you ever read the sandwell town page your lot are just the same so whats your point.
oh i forgot you never actually have a point.
you just a sad little person with nothing better to do.
I think we are posturing again in the transfer market. Surely 28 forwards on the books is enough, where the hell is this 5′8″ seven foot leaping “giant” going to play? Competition for places is one thing, being in a queue not unlike the one to get out of the Hawthorns will create unrest. A couple of defenders might be an idea.
70.jacko, its MOWBRAY not MOWBURY,whos post you bin reading aye BOING BOING UP THE MOWBRAY WAY
COME ON IN THE NET TIGHT LINES
Forget this deal its extremely bad business for someone who has not been proven beyond the old 4th division - £2 million with no add ons should be the absolute limit and even then its still looks like a poor deal. Another centre half should be the next priority anyway.
we do need 1 more striker because we have got keogh, seb, vokes,?. bothroyed Elliot and Eastwood wont be here next year. so we need 1 more mick.
If Morgan had the ambition he keeps telling us he has then Mclean would already be sporting the shirt and be muttering “still a big club” “great fans” “sleeping giant” blah de blah
We do not want another forward 3m would get us a experienced DEFENDER surely
62.there’s absolutely no way potter, eastwood or elliot are gonna drop into league 2 and even if they did posh could never afford their wages anyway.come on would you leave wolves for posh.no didn’t think so
Fair play to the Express & Star they are doing their upmost to unsettle McLean in order that he goes to Wolves…
The boy has done amazingly for us good folk here at London Road this past 18 months, but as people have posted on here, where exactly will he fit in at Wolves????
The price being quoted is OTT but our chairman doesnt want him to go, has offered him a new contract and has a few quid in his back pocket…
It’s going to be an interesting battle of wills.
I have no doubt that Aaron McLean will do well at Championship and its great to hear that MK agrees.
The problem is that if Darragh MacAnthony the Posh owner refuses to sell he has the personal fortune to say no to anyone. I can’t see anyone committing to £5 million.
70 - Right, no McLean at this moment in time is not worth £5m but I think he’s certainly worth £2m rising to £3m with add ons. I’ll tell you now I think he’s a better player than Eastwood and Sharps. I also think he’ll give SEB a run for his money too.
He consistently gets goals - and he will at any level. His conversion rate isn’t that good, but blimey if he did put all the chances away that he gets he’d have got 60 goals last year. Michael Kightly’s opinion of him is spot on - he will be a fans favourite, he will get goals and you have to see how high he jumps to believe it.
With you being an “average Championship club” no you shouldn’t pay over the odds for players, but just because we’re a league 1 club at the mo does that mean we should give our talented players away for next to nothing?? I’ve said before that Kightly has never played above the Championship - does that mean you’d be prepared to let him leave for about £500k if a Premiership team came in for him??
Those days are long gone at Posh. We sold Jimmy Bullard for £275k, Simon Davies for £750k etc - but we’re a different club now with Darragh MacAnthony around. We have the best chairman in the league (read his online diary!), we have serious money, we have talent (Our GK has just been in the England squad FFS!), we have SERIOUS ambition, a new ground is on the way and we won’t have the p**s taken out of us by a club that wwe’ll be playing next season.
I like Wolves, infact half of my family are from Wolves and are Wolves fans but the arrogant tone of the fans on these pages has really got on my wick. It really is time to pay up or shut up.
Bully made his name scoring in the lower leagues as did Andy Cole among others. Im sure no one would argue that they could play in the Championship.
As I said previously, 33 goals is nothing to be sniffed at.
86, Fair comment, however B Fry is as mad as a hatter, just ask any Blue nose.
Didn’t he say that about Freddy lol?
Jacko 72 - yeah Mowbrays first game in charge was a nightmare - err….. 3-0 against your shower as i recall !!!!
I still fondly remember the 25 yard screamer from Greening as your lot were shouting Gypo at him - strange how you all suddenly went very quiet !
I’m sure the WM phonelines were melting with the Mowbray out calls after that.
If you are going to try and be clever, at least get ya facts right first - MUG !!
72, 89, An early morning kick off!
Come on Jacko, come on Jacko!
matt_posh.
thanks for getting back to me.
whilst i certainly agree there are posters on this board that can be ‘enthusiastic’ with their opinions, i do think its a little harsh to tar us all with this brush of arrogance ??
sure - you think the guy is worth 2-3 million, and you think he may end up better than eastwood and may be even SEB - but thats your opinion and your opinion only. the fact is the guys record doesn’t substantiate a £3 million price tag when compared to other transfer fees at the moment.
With regards to us not wanting to sell Kightly and SEB on the cheap - I completely agree that we would react in this way - but Im sorry, these guys have proved at championship level that they are worth a certain fee. Kightly is probably now worth the 5 million that you’re asking for McLeans for example.
I understand that you’re ambitious, that you dont need the money and that you shouldn’t let players go on the cheap - but that doesn’t mean you’ll be able to sell outside current market value as you may just end up with an unhappy player.
90 - Happy’s always gonna win this one. We’ve got far too much ammo to fire at you lot at the minute!
92, Yes, but you’ll always be sad.
THREE MILLION PLUS ADD ONS …?
Have some of you lost your minds? Did we even get that much for (drum roll) England International Big Jo Lescott ???? Have you forgotten?
My giddy aunt… Now, im no longer calling for fredman to stay - too much has happenned - but Mclean asking 3 or 4 times as much as Eastwood? bwwaa ahahaha ahah hah aha ah aahaaaa … laugh, i nearly shat.
No loyalty. No Proven Record.
No justificable asking price.
No Thanks.
Good luck if you get him. I enjoyed watching him for us last year. The extra space he will get in the championship would make him a snip at £3M, agree that Posh’s scare off valuation is ludicrous, but another good sesaon at League 1 level would surely have pushed his valuation over that! He gets in the right places and scores an amazing amount of headers for a short guy! If you get him for 2.5M and chuck in Eastwood it’s a good deal all round. Even without Mclean we have the quality to get into the Championship, so providing you don’t go up, we’ll see you next year! Good Luck for next season!
95,poshparker,you will be playing them mate, best they can hope for is a mid table finish, your a better team than them, good luck aye boing boing
89,happy, having been at the said game, did you know in the 1st half wolves actualy had a shot, its the truth i tell ya,aye boing boing
93 - Sandy, those words cut deep…I’m a ruined man!
I have read a number of the comments made and it seems to be that sensible thought is that whilst most Wolves fans would very much like the boy to come to the Mol. His price is prohibitive. We are by comparision to Posh a wealthy club and therein lies the problem. Greed.
Up The Wolves
Here’s some news that will put a smile on all our faces…
…Neil Collins has signed a new 4 year deal!
Y don’t we just get matt derbyshire in eh lads? Hes proved himself in the premier which is better than what mclean has done he can score and also hes 21 and hes playin for england under 21s. Mcarthy get him on loan. Look at his stats last year for blackburn. 5 goals in 7 games. If he can do that in the premier think what he can do in the championship.Does anyone else agree with me?
Freddt Eastwood has already said that he’d drop down to a lower league with SOuthend, so swap him for McLean and give them a couple of million. Two birds with one stone.
I do know one thing though, we won’t be making many more signings if we don’t start offloading some players!
Whats your opinions people of what I just put? Do you think it would be a good signing
101 Wolves - yes, Matt Derbyshire would be a good loanee. You never know.
102 SUPER - seriously, 2 million plus Eastwood ? If Cov were prepared to pay £1.5 million (including add ons) for eastwood then thats a total of £3.5 million for Mclean - I dont see how thats justifiable going by the lads record.
By the way poshmatt according to the sunday times rich list (top 2000 in the country) the name Darragh MacAnthony doesn’t appear however a Mr Steve Morgan does with 430m
Now THAT is serious money
86 Matt Posh Spice - Havent you got it yet???
The “arrogance” is that you believe that Mc Clean is worth more (based on people behind the scenes that control your club valuation of the player) and Moxey and the people at Wolves simply wont pay what Posh are asking for!
With regards to Freddie Eastwood your clubs wage budget can’t afford his Championship wage so that would never happen unless Posh manage to get promoted (but it wont be that easy this season for you, just ask Forest fans how long it took them!)
You seem to be telling everyone how arrogant we are - take a good look in the mirror and read the stuff you type - eg Its time to pay up or shut up???
Why not email Jez Moxey at Wolves and ask him why Wolves dont believe that McClean is worth the money ???
Furthermore, you seem to have answered your own questions/ comments and yes we agree that Posh have been a good “feeder” club for Spurs as they paid peanuts for the likes of S Davies etc - to be fair to Spurs when they signed Davies etc had no track record in a higher league - hence why they were sold for less!
Finally with regards to Mr MRI - Dont kid yourself as he wont be ploughing all of his personal wealth into your club - just the portion that he ia advised to by his accountant (its called a tax write off) Otherwise you would already have players on Championship wages and looking to make the Top 2 next season with ease! Obviously in the league you are in!
You now have a player who wants to leave and he knows that he will be paid double what he is earning now at a higher level Championship club that can afford him - you have wage budget that your owner wont go beyond - which is sensible and means that the club can attract certain players but not the likes of Freddie Eastwood - & because people point out these facts you call it arrogance???
Every fan is proud of the club they support, BUT the stuff you come out with goes beyond the realms of fantasy and BS
How many fans do Posh get in your ground each season ??? Doesnt that tell you something???
What is the most Posh have spent on a transfer fee in the last 2 or 3 seasons???
Why is MR MRI not in the Top 200 wealthiest people in Britain - Doesnt that tell you something???
What is the TOP wage that posh pay any of your players???
Compare your Top wage with some of the lesser paid players at Wolves???
Right now Wolves cant compete with the middle to Top half of clubs in the Premier league as they have been established there for a number of years - We know that as fact, and yet we dont think those clubs are arrogant, nor would we enter into a debate about it!!!
Personally we believe we have too many flaming strikers at Wolves - and dont see the point of signing McClean - Kites seems to think he’s worth it probably because they are pals BUT he hasnt proven anything higher than the league you’ve just come up from - and the defences in those leagues are mainly not good enough to get into most Championship teams subs bench never mind anything else - otherwise they would already be playing in a higher league and earning much more money!
Keep McClean and keep lovin your club as you obviously do - We have an abundance of strikers that can score in the Championship and are adding better players all the time
If you want to find out why Wolves dont believe that McClean is worth what Posh think ask Jez Moxey!!!
I agree with wot 106 just said. The point is morgan has 430 million pounds and wants wolves to do well. But with mcarthy say wot ya l;ike but he isn’t kind of manager wolves need. I mean 2 out of his 3 signings have been from lower league clubs which is fair enough if you want to get around halfway but if wolves want to get into the top 2 they need to first get rid of mcarthy because that bloke doesn’t know what he is talking about and letting himself into letting eastwood go. Which ever club he ends up going to i guarantee he will be top goal scorer and will haunt wolves when he comes to molineux. Also another point is you can only find so many good players in one country but mcarthy seems to think any players in England are the best. He needs to look into europe mainly eastern europe as he will get good players for cheaper prices. I mean look at robert koren for baggies no one knew who just some player who plays for slovenia but look at him with the baggies. He gives them creativity and flair. Something that wolves haven’t got. Players who i would get rid of is: the whole defence except for craddock elokobi and stearman. Midfielders Henry anbd forwards keogh. Wolves havce got to start realising you need more than just a group of players from league 1 who can last 90 minutes at full pace. They need to realise you need a solid back four, a good attacking midfield with flair backed up as well as wingers and with four strikers who know where the net is we have ebanks blake and eastwood(who can find the net it just because of mcarthy he hasn’t) we just need to get someone like matt derbyshire and someone else who can find the net. Wolves really need to also play mark davies, stephen gleeson, lewis gobern, mark little and daniel jones because they are good players now and for the future. Anyone agree with me?
It’s spelt McLean.
I’m a Posh fan. I would just like to say Aaron is not worth £3 million plus £2 million add ons plus sell on clause BUT we do not need to sell and that’s the issue. We are a wealthy club because of Darragh MacAnthony. We are not in debt and have no desire to sell a 30 goal a season man because they don’t grow on trees. So the £5 million is a silly price that you will have to pay if you want him, it’s basic business ethics of supply and demand, and also the need to sell. We don’t need to sell. Oh and Barry Fry…..tosser but you can’t help liking the twat.
Mclean is a worker and who can blame him for wanting to play in a higher league. He will work himself into the ground to be the best where ever he plays. I think POSH are being selfish pricing him out of the market, with a career a short as a footballers they need to get the most out of their days and Peterborough will have made a good profit whatever they sell him for.
Ugly Klown: 109. I totally agree you are a rich club, you have good support but you are league 1 and league 2 standard at present.
McLean has stated his intention. He wants to leave. This happens at every level of the game. Like it or not Wolves are a bigger club that Posh, and he wants to move to a bigger higher and also rich club. But we are rich because we have shrewd people at the top. That frustrate the hell out of our own fans, so god knows what they do the opposition in a business deal. Moxey is very stubborn and will not pay your asking price. Which means you are going to be left with a player that does not want to play for your club. Not a good place to be. Not only that, he will be free to go next season and you will make nowt.
A very similar thing is happening with Villa andd liverpool with Barry. The big fish eat the little fish. We are a medium sized fish and you are the little fish. Way of the world my friend.
If we get McKlean. Man UTD could come in for our kites and so on and so it moves on. Players hold the cards these days not the clubs. And the players agent is obviously doing everything he can to take McKlean away from the club.
107: No i dont agree with you.
All I can say is thank god McCarthy is manager.
1) Eastwood. He had 3000 minutes of chances and scored 4 goals. Kyle had a better return and we all know where he is.
2) Our defence is strong especially with the adition of Stearman and Berra, (hopefully).
3) McCarthy; as I hvae said numerous times. The quality signings made by this club have been made by this man. Kites, foley, Elokobi, Stearman, SEB, Keogh, Jarvis, maybe Jones(i have not seen him play) and Henry has been a good servant.
4) As for youth, all of the above players are also youthful and are the back bone of our club for the future. And I agree Davies and Gobern would be welcome additions to that process.
But to say McCarthy is not the man when he with hte help of Morgan and Moxey as created it, is wholly inappropriate. Please find it in your heart to understand what we are trying to build here.
106 - thats the longest post ive ever seen, cudnt agree more, put that in your pipe and smoke it Mr Matt Posh. wheres peterborough anyway?…..
112- Yeah the bloke has made good signings with SEB, stearman, elokobi and other players and maybe i was a bit harsh with getting rid of henry he is a good player. I still think we should get rid of the players I’ve said. Morgan wants promotion this year and I can’t see mcarthy doing it. Firstly hes got to get a get as a solid defence in with the likes of stearman craddock elokobi and hopefully berra which is four defenders. We need another 3 or 4 solid defenders or maybe mcarthy can have a look at wolves youth at defenders. Midfield wise we need another twpo wingers backed up and we need gobern, gleeson and davies to play. Trust me they would give us some creativity. Also mcarthy needs to scout eastern europe for another striker and a midfielder with some flair and creativity. With Eastwood as you said only scoring four goals but the point is they were at the start of the season I heard about it in the paper that mcarthy basically said he wasn’t doing good when he scored 5 in 5 games. Mcarthy knocked the confidence out of him simple as and has never hardly played him or given him the chance or has put confidence into him. So 106 wake up and smell the coffee because with this manager we will go nowhere next season just you wait.
112- Another comment about what you said. A club thats doing and buying the right players are QPR. Okay they’ve got a lot of money but wolves need to start thinking about not to just buy players from England but players from further afield. I understand what wolves are trying to build and its a team with good young. But these players can only go so far. I don’t see the group of players we have even though we do have some good quality players helping us to get to promotion. When are we going to start realising we need to start looking around europe for players and have a look at premiership sides reserves and youth and start getting these players. Until we start doping that there is no way we will get promotion. Get in martin jol thats what i say. You might think i’m being a wholly and me being only 15 thinking I don’t know much about football but trust me I know alot about it and I know what I’m talking about.
People please give your opinions of what I have said. See if every wolves fan is the same as golden blood.
114: That is your opinion and I respect that. It does not mean I agree with it. I have been here before. Since when as sacking a WOlves manager ever worked out for the better. It just sets us back.
McCarthy is here for the long haul. We have invested in him, he is promoting players from the academy ie elliott and we are looking very very bright for the future.
We were average last season not a disaster, I think we will be fine and dandy next year. I accept that Mick made some mistakes last year, Eastwood was not one of them, but all managers drop clangers every now and then.
Let McCarthy free like we are doing and we will be fine.
Time will tell.
116 Wolves - As much as we didnt like the dire boring stuff that MM served up tactically with his permutations last season we also understand that Morgan is not going to make any “knee jerk” decisions
Morgan has chosen to give MM one more shot at it and if he starts to show signs that he is failing miserably by Christmas this year, we should see a total change in Mr Morgans attitude towards MM
Accountant Wolf mentioned that he believes that the N Collins contract extension is not surprisiing as Wolves dont really hold much ambition of promotion - we find that to be an extraordinary statement as the rewards in the Prem and even relegation from the Prem outweigh the losses if managed the right way
But we must admit that Morgans attitude towards Moxey may also be made known IF Moxey and MM combo fail miserably yet again and Moxey and MM run out of excuses (including blaming the fans!)
Hopefully MM finds inspiration from somewhere - learns about football tactics and man management in pre season and Wolves go up!
We shall see, the first ten games or so will show us what direction we will be taking - but all we can do is support the team and hope for the best!
118 I totally agree with you its just very frustating just seeing player after player from a english club when we should be looking further afield for players. Mcarthy if he scouted Europe would have a much more variety of players and would probably be cheaper especially in eastern europe. Also I don’t think mcarthy realises that you need players backed up with just as good players and that we need massively in the centre of midfield someone who is attacking and has creativity and flair.
119 Sometimes people cannot see the trees for the woods - there are gems out there that are far better than the players that MM believes are real gems
All this put in a shift nonsense really means little or nothing
Being a Wolves fans is like a rollercoaster ride - with many ups and downs lets just hope that next season we see a massive change in MM or MM is shown the door fairly quickly if we are going nowhere fast - we personally hope that Moxey goes with him and Morgan brings in someone who can move the club forward, remain firmly in the background and develope the club for us fans and not focus mainly on their own personal gain!
UP THE WOLVES!!!
