Angler found dead

An angler from the West Midlands has died after falling into the River Severn in Bridgnorth.

The man, who is in his 70s and has not yet been named, was pulled from the water at 5.20pm.

Police, paramedics, fire crews and the air ambulance from Cosford were alerted by a 999 call from Riverside Caravan Park.

A police officer used a buoyancy aid to get the man out of the water with the aid of firefighters but efforts to resuscitate him were in vain.

He was airlifted to Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, where he was pronounced dead.
