Wolves admit their desire to sign ‘Paul Ince and Denis Irwin types’ to add to their young and hungry squad is losing momentum.
Boss Mick McCarthy has signed 16 players under 24 in his two years in charge, including all three summer arrivals – Sam Vokes, 18, 20-year-old Richard Stearman and David Jones, 23.
Six years ago, former boss Dave Jones persuaded a then 35-year-old Ince not to retire and talked Irwin – 36 at the time – into one last hurrah on heavily-incentivised contracts.
The club was rewarded when they won promotion to the Premier League at the end of the duo’s first season.
Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “In an ideal world we are looking for a new Paul Ince and Denis Irwin in terms of experience and in terms of the type of deals we would like to bring them in on.
“But I have to say I’m not overly optimistic at the moment. We’ve always been looking to try to find maybe one or two experienced players to go with the younger ones we’ve got.
“They have to be the right type, age and experience to fit into our team. They don’t grow on trees.”
Boss Mick McCarthy knows his ideal Championship profile of the player he wants.
He said: “You don’t have to be 27 or 28 because Kevin Foley isn’t that. He has played four full seasons and that is what makes you a hardened pro.
“You can get some poor 27-year-olds but we don’t want that. We want seasoned campaigners, which is four or five years’ experience.
“Players who have played 100-200 games in this league, if you can get them.
“That’s what makes you battle-hardened and our lads haven’t had that yet. Those 46 games are hard and the matches come along quickly.”

desperate rejig of an old story, cum on E&S dont be lazy !!
Yeah E&S find out who these new targets are,
You failed on Vokes and Stearman…
yeah a rejig but interesting.
Yeah foley played 4 seasons but outside of the premiership. When we signed Ince and Irwin, we paid them good wages an we dont appear to want to pay that now, so end of story.
E&S find some new news please,
If you wont pay the wages you wont get the players! There are no players in the mould of Ince and Irwin nowadays unfortunately, it’s all about money and profile
The possible reasons:
(1) we aren’t paying enough
(2) there aren’t enough players of this type available
(3) Players of this type don’t want to play for Mick
Would Ince or Irwin have signed for MM? Or would they have played for anyone with the 500K promotion bonus in their contract?
We need 3 players if we’re going for experince I think an experinced CF like Stern John would be a good shout would do the buisness ex blues and forest too.
IN OTHER WORDS HAPPY CLAPPERS..DON’T GET TO EXCITED ABOUT NEXT SEASON..OUR TEAM IS TO YOUNG AND TOO INEXPERIENCED TO MOUNT A GENUINE PROMOTION CHALLENGE.
BUT TOP 10 WILL DO FOR MORGAN AND MOXEY. BIG MISTAKE SIR JACK..SELLING TO THIS CLOWN..SHOULD HAVE SOLD IT SOUNESS’S CONSORTIUM..REAL FOOTBALL PEOPLE!!!!!!!
the defencer Ward i think as had a rough deal,i warched him last season and in the air, leadership and reading of the game was excellent, i thought he was let down by the other centre halfs, breen, collins and edwards, when he was fit.
if we get 3 mill for ole, over 3 years is that not a good wage for the likes of gravenson .would it have been good for carsley??
The one think Moxey is good at is paying and recieving the right price for players. We’ll get in an ‘experienced’ player or two, but i wouldn’t expect him to be in his late 20’s or ealy 30’s as that would be against ‘McCarthy’s policy’.
We do NOT need more forwards no. 7, thats the place where we have enough talent.
We need at least one more defender, hopefully Christophe Berra but Hearts are such a mess it looks unlikely you’ll contact the owners.
We also need a CM to replace Olofinjana, people think David Edwards, but we’ll still need another one with talent to make up the numbers.
We aren’t far from a promotion challenging team, and with a couple of signings we can be the dark horse of this league next season.
A true bit E&S online banter there. Some rejigged story followed by South Bank Army rejigging his tired old comments. Yawn.
DALSTON. SO I TAKE IT READING SEVERAL POSTS SAYING THE SAME THING ABOVE..WAS ALL THE MOTIVATION YOU NEEDED TO COMPILE THAT PIECE OF JOURNALISTIC GENIUS. SURELY A TURNER OR PULITZER PRIZE AWAIT IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
I BOW IN THE PRECENCE OF SUCH TALENT AS YOURS..PLEASE FOR GIVE OH WISE ONE IF I HAVE OFFENDED THEE.. LMAO
CAMPO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CAMPO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sign him up pls!!!!!
I have to admit that more physical presence would not go amiss. Still, when we say we want an experienced player or two, aren’t most of us fans wanting players with know-how and nous rather than just being battle-hardened? Don’t most of us want more brainy, savvy football?
13. do you have anything better to do than post inane comments to annoy real wolves fans? by the way, your caps lock needs fixing
We should dig deep in our pockets and go for Paul Scholes. Then Gregorz Rasiak, an experienced target man, would be very useful.
Finally get Johnson, the Cardiff centre back and we will have a squad to better any other in the Championship!
Rubbish if you want them they are available
Pip (9) has a good point–with all our centre-backs inadequate, it was difficult to know who to blame most last season.
McCarthy is our manager, and he decided it was thumbs down for Breen, Ward and Edwards (perhaps he has chronic injury problems). (Pip doesn’t pick out Craddock for blame and Neill Collins is strong and, perhaps, young enough to improve–and that’s everybody else!)
Until Ward proves himself here or elsewhere, I’m not prepared to challenge McCarthy’s decision on this one.
South bank, why must you continue with your repetitive, nonsensical, negative comments? The majority of us REAL wolves fans are trying to see the positives of what is happening at molineux, instead of constantly putting the team down. I happen to think you must be a depressive, grumpy old man who is so bitter his life is so awful, he cant see the good in anything else, and tries to drag it down the same path as his own, pitiful existence. Get a grip old man, the glory days are never going to return when we have people like you still attending matches. I’m only 21, and even I can see that…
20# LEE.. NO MATE I’M A HAPPY CHAPPIE..WITH A GOOD LIFESTYLE..AND BEEN A SEASON TICKET HOLDER LONGER THAN YOU’VE BEEN ALIVE. THAT SAID I RESPECT YOUR OPION AS A FELLOW WOLVES FAN..OPEFULLY YOU’LL RESPECT MINE WHEN I SAY..NAFF OFF YOUR BORING.
i’ll 2nd that lee (20) Shame i have to sit in the same stand as him ! !
and they were rewarded again when they finished botton n got relegated aye boing boing
its simple, pay the money and the experience will come.. i heard a rumour everton will off load thomas graversen for next to nothing… there are several other players of the same making out there who are available so i dont believe what jez says. pay peanuts get monkeys… thats the problem.
Ince & Irwin all rolled into one….SENNA…..
Spain.
Ive said all summer we should get Stephen Carr, bring back Darren Anderton and persude Teddy Sheringham to come out of retirement- no substitute for class
Like I said the other day Wolves will sign Mclean for 3 million with a further 1.5 in add-ons
Going off the subject - did you see that Posh FC have put McLean up for sale.
I think this is the modern day transfer market now and doesn’t matter who you are:
1. Team A comes makes an enquiry for Mr X from Team B
2. Team B come up with a price to fend off potential suitors
3. Team A then look at other players
4. Mr X talks to Agent Y who advises a transfer request
5. Team B put Mr X up for sale who then gets sold making Team A and Mr X the bad guys.
Sorry if you got bored (or confused) but this is just my opinion and makes a change from the we hate SBBA/Lee/Darlston etc. etc. rubbish.
p.s. I thought we all supported the same club and wanted the same things?
SOUTHBANK BARMY ARMY - If you’re going to abuse your fellow fans for being boring and your manager for being thick etc, LEARN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. The irony (look it up dear boy) is brilliant, keep it up.
why we always arguing, why cant we be as one like the west brom fans, all they do is praise each other and dont run there club down thats why they have so much success and we have none.
No, Southbank barmy army, you are not happy. Your outer shell is fairly translucent. You are frustration incarnate and we can all identify with that as fellow Wolves fans. Unfortunately, you hit out left right and centre at fans, players and management in your desire to blame someone for our lack of the success we all crave. Some people try to think in a positive manner with regard to the future of your beloved team. If we are to achieve our goals I cannot see us doing so by being quick to see and blame scapegoats when things do not go as we wish. I wonder if you would be more satisfied if you were a Man U fan? Games like life are about learning to cope with success and failure. Even in the past dark twenty odd years there have been plenty of good and maybe ecstatic moments. Cheer up, it may happen. Out of your darkness…
Dont believe the spin coming out of Molineux about these players not being available. If we get off our backsides and pay the wages the players will come. The Albion did it last year with the likes of Koren from abroad and he looked a decent player to me.We dont seem to consider buying anyone from overseas, which IMO is the only option if the Board consider home grown players to be too expensive.Quite frankly I am very worried. We dont seem to be able to buy the players of quality we need and at the same time the players we need to offload eg Potter etc are going nowhere(due to their inflated wages maybe?)
speaking of spin, Mclean handed in a transfer request this am…..
flipping heck, its hard to keep up

Anyone else spot the irony (look it up Southbank)?
It’s spelt “K e i t h”.
Dummy indeed Southbank!!
If we sign McLean we must be mad- one season wonder wouldnt pay over £500k Andy Bishop form Bury or Chris Dagnall cheap as chips and far better long term- also wish we would just sell Eastwood asap anything near a million would give mick money to sign the lads ive just mentioned
17, A14, You may be onto something there with Scholes. Why not eh!
His hair would go lovely with our strip!

AND AS FOR KEITHIUS (MILLER) MAXIMUS WELL THERE’S ANOTHER LOONY TUNE TO ADD TO THE LIST.
Simple, we don’t pay these type of players enough. Agree with Scholes, he’d soon be back in the Prem with us…if only
JOHN HARTSON the man got the exsperiance and he love JEZZY PIES.AM I GLAD TO BE A BAGGIE FAN.
l thinck mr BARMY army, has totally lost the plot. this is a site for Wolves fans to come on here and express there hopes and wishes concerning our team. All i’ve ever heard from him is total negetivity agression and stupidity. l think soon they will come knocking at his door with the white coat with no arms. The sooner the better l say. you loser.
campo i midfield tom replace oli, yeah hes knocking on abit but a great player and experienced!get him .
Terry moron boggie cant wait till next year bong bong down the mowbray way, up the wolves.
20 - I third that mate, shut up south bank you’re boring!
When your young you cant stop playing!! to reach the top you have to play week in week out and a handfull of games dont make you special. you have to work hard build a reputation with the fans and they will get you there? Age there’s lots of young players who play week in week out! and there’s lots of players who still train outside of club management. So why be so defensive ((A battle hardened pro))i myself think karl henry is getting close he just needs to brush up on his passing, but i would like someone to share the work load.
yowm the andy murray of football, nobody likes ya aye boing boing
paper talk - if you keep the PR going Jez you might fool some fans, might fool yourself if you yak long enough
Thick Mick does not even understand what “experienced” means. He thinks its the number of games played!
It’s what you have won, where you have been, the character you have shown, the players you played alongside, and the leadership qualities you have shown.
Paul Ince was not about the number of games he played, that could equally mean somebody from Southern Dr Martin’s League who has played 300 games. Against what sort of opposition?
This moron managing us is an embarrassment, but, God willing, he will have failed sufficiently by November for us to get rid of him.
However, sadly, Morgan has failed us dismally at the first hurdle, because when you have a failed manager you have to find a replacement. Who will we appoint next November? Nobody of any real worth will be around at that time.
We could have had Paul Ince, instead we have a retained a serial failure, ready to fail us yet again!
Wow! I wish I could fail like this on a £1M per year salary. I wouldn’t have to worry about fuel prices as I tail-arsed everybody on my motorway journey from Cheshire!
17,a14,why you want scholes anyway you only hoof over your midfields heads aye boing boing hoof hoof
TELL U WAT IM A TRUE WOLVES FAN AND I FINK WE SHUD GET BEHIND THE LADS AND MM NEXT SEASON AND IF WER NOT TOP OR THERE ABOUTS AFTER 10 OR 12 GAMES THEN START MOANIN
IN MY OPINION MM HAS MADE 3 GD SIGNINS ALREADDY AND I THINK BERRA ISNT FAR BEHIND BUT WE STILL NEED SUM MORE
LIKE ANTHER DEFENDER
EXPERIENCED MIDFIELD (CAPTAIN)
SO LETS GET BEHIND THE WOLVES AND CHEER ON THE PROMOTION PUSH
31. DebenhamWolf
You are talking like a looser. It’s a good job that you didn’t get a chance to influence Andy Murray. It was the unreasonable, unforgiving, fighting spirit that made the old Wolves the power they were. Not listening to losers platitudes!
I am right cross that MM thinks Paul Ince and Denis Irwin made the impact that they did just because they had played a lot of matches, it shows why we are second rate and will continue to be so while we have this idiot mis-managing the club.
By November even the most idiotic happy-clapper will have had enough, so roll on the new season and let Mad Mick condemn himself to the sack again.
The problem then becomes, who to replace him with? The cream of the manager crop has already gone for this season.
obnoxious, self-righteous, arrogant, all describe the negativity of a person who doesnt believe anyone elses opinion counts for anything. SBBA.
55,nieg,are you reffering to mick mcartney aye boing boing
freddies 48 hours are up aye boing boing
Experience doesn’t come cheap, Ince and Irwin although well past their best were paid a huge promotion bonus when we went up. They were fantastic additions and made the difference and unless Wolves are prepared to do a simaliar thing then they won’t come. Phillips would have been a great signing on a free with a 2 year contract and would have been a far cheaper option instead of Mclean. Campo? No chance! Wasn’t he on around 50 grand a week at Bolton?
How’s about
Nobby Solano
George Boetang
Gary Speed
Steed Malbranque
Campo
Tugay
And yes even Kevin Phillips
What do you think???
53 Wolves till I die
I promise you I am no longer loose. In the sixties and seventies I probably was but everything has tightened up since then. As for not being a fighter; well at 61 I play competitive football against much younger guys and am capable of holding my own. I am at this moment regarding my array of cups and medals and received a shield for outstanding service to my team last year. It is unlike me to blow my own trumpet but for you I make this exception. I presume you did mean `loser`, an easy spelling mistake to make. Southbank barmy army was man enough to answer my missive in an intelligent manner. Manners cost nothing and maketh the man or `boy` in some cases. Pray tell me how my posting gives you that erroneous impression. Out of darkness cometh light, sometimes…
AS for bashing happy boggie. He is only stating the obvious.
Some Wolves fans love nothing more than taring the club apart with childish pathetic jibes about other players and especially the manager.
If Wolves wish to move on these people have to stop, and stop now. How the hell are you meant to move forward in this world when some of your own people are constantly telling you that you are carp.
A little bit of patience is required and listening to what has been told you instead of looking for the negative or the conspirisy in everything that is spoken or written.
We are WOlves, we have a great future. Young hungry team, a DEO who has removed the “wolves are an easy touch” in the transfer market slogan and bought players of a clibre we require. Mick has made some very good signings and some bad ones, namely Freddy, but we all make mistakes, I love the way the players the board and the club as a whole are as one. It is just a minority of fans who are hell bent on destroying everything Wolves just because they want a new manager.
Please stop I urge you, think of the club and think of the damage you are doing!
I for one critisied Mick last season., he deserved critisism but not he sack, and that is where some WOlves fans have misunderstood the concept of constructive critisism. Well thank god they will not get there way and Wolves can continue to move forward in a steady strucured way.

Great to see a real Wolves fan with a great attitude. I too am well aware of the strange period that MM went through last year and, whilst respecting the man, questioned and argued against some of his decisions regarding selection and tactics, but thought he was back on a more sensible track towards the end of the season. I dare say we will find decisions made by any manager at odds with our own limited views as there are many different ways of approaching any game tactically or selectively in order to obtain the desired outcome. Unfortunately many fans in their fervour and desire to succeed find it hard to think logically on what is a very emotional rollercoaster. I do get a strong impression that most fans follow your reasonable views but the ou6tspoken tend to be those who wear their hearts on their sleeves; no bad thing in many ways as you can bet that they are probably the lads who make most noise on the `terraces`. God bless ‘em! Out of darkness…
Southbank barmy army said Jack Hayward made a mistake selling to Steve Morgan, because Morgan does not seem to have moved decisively enough. This remark does not make sense.
1) In 1989-90, the year before Hayward took over, Wolves were 10th in this division; in 2006-07, they were 7th. Southbank barmy army’s remarks were more appropriate for Hayward than for Morgan.
2) By spending money on transfer fees for three players before the end of June, Morgan has in fact moved decisively. I don’t think this was ever done in the whole Hayward reign, and, in fact, I can’t remember when it was last done.
As for me, Morgan has given me hope that Wolves will move decisively under him, with or without Jez Moxey or Mick McCarthy.
Well I have put £200 on WBA to be relegated next season. Like taking sweets from the babies. Thank you Mr William Hill

I am one of those who believes that we have made a bad mistake in not sacking McCarthy. I began warning everybody about what he was doing badly wrong last November, and I was proven right. Happy-clappers told me to go and support the Tesco’s… as if!
I expect that by this November, everybody will have got around to agreeing with me, and we will have to do the sacking mid-season, always a bad time to restructure. This will end up as another wasted season, mark my words I am right far more than I’m wrong.
I’ve supported this team since 1953 when I sat on my uncles shoulders, and was then passed from hand to hand overhead down to the front to watch from there with the other kids. The men near the front then watched over us and ensured that us kids got back to our family at the end. How times are different now.
Norway Wolf, I too have been to Wolves on my fathers shoulders as lateas 1980s and still had the same experiences as you, and it invokes great memories.
But have you ever thought that the only reason you are right more than you are wrong is becasue you try to make it happen. Try to not make it happen, for example look at the positives that we are building.
Can you not see the great youthful side Mick is creating, the academy, the togetherness of the squad, manager and board. All these things lead to sucess. As I said Mick made mistakes but for heavens sake give the guy the opportunity to put them right.
This is something that seem indemic in football currently. If this was a business Mick would have been given the time to turn it around and given full backing, especially as there are so many positives. Please also remember that last season was average not terrible. It helps
Short memories regarding Mssr Moxey from some on here
Question: Who exactly was responsible for Wolves having the highest wage bill of any club in the Championship when we were relegated?
Who was it that knew full well that we had not invested enough money to have a slim chance of survival in the Prem BUT didnt negotiate a better pay scale that would have eased our drop into the Championship???
Who was it that chased after Hoddle when he already turned us down and then didnt have the nerve to get rid of Hoddle when he failed miserably allowing him to “walk”???
Who continues to pocket bonuses and a large salary for any reason possible even though the club has fialed miserably time and again to achieve anything??? But yet was the chief architect of the slashing palyers and staff wages at the club (except his own wages)???
ETC ETC ETC
muppet out goin down the mcarthy way this club going nowhere im supporting the baggies instead at least they got mowbury who is a much better manager than muppet
