Walsall players admit they will be stepping into the unknown when they report back for training this week.
The Saddlers are due to start getting ready for next season’s League One campaign at the club’s new training ground when they report back on Wednesday.
The surviving members of the Richard Money era acknowledge that their ambitions for the campaign cannot be assessed, until new boss Jimmy Mullen has begun the heavy recruiting programme required to fill the gaps.
Young forward Troy Deeney is excited about getting back to work but admits he is unsure what can be expected next season.
He said: “I’m ready to come back. I have been in the gym as much as I can trying to get fit.
“I want to come back at a certain level, push on even more and be fitter and stronger than last season.
“We will wait and see what Jimmy comes up with and set our goals after that.
“Jimmy is a decent bloke. I can’t really compare him to Richard because Richard is a legend to me. He helped me from nothing.
“If I’m still here next season then I can compare. Hopefully if we can get in there and it will be a good season.”
Defender Rhys Weston, who now finds himself one of the more experienced at the club, admits the Saddlers will be “starting from scratch.”
He said: “It’s a completely new situation now. We have lost a few players and it’s a new regime.”

I feel more disappointed and less excited for the new season with no new signings. I can not see where this club will finish next season.
At the moment they couldn’t get a 5 a-side game between the squad it is so depleated.
“If I’m here next season” Troy, are you off somewhere next summer? Thanks for your commitment lad. Its such a poor start to the new season. Why haven’t the E&S featured the new training facility yet ? If the Black & Gold had new facilities, you’d be over there in a flash ! Come on E&S.
The die is already cast for us next season…. that is all talk and no action.
According to this very website Troy is off to Coventry!? If I thought we might spend the money I would say bye bye.
troys going no were he has to wait till his tattoo has dryed what did it say troy………… brimingham city forever
The glut of classy signings at Bescot is over whelming !!
Is the reality that nobody of any real talent fancies it, particularly with our notorious chairman and his group of yesmen.
I really fear we are in the first throws of freefall in to the Blue Square league.
We need someone to buy in at the top, and quickly.

Jimmy’s a good bloke?. O grate, so professional, such respect. Used car anyone?. Sigh.
It’s not a step into the unknown - we are in league 1 and we need a bundle of tried and tested professionals to support the club and the younger players. How many words can be written when it is basic common sense?!
Just who in their right mind, is even going to consider coming to this club. I know for a fact, from someone very close to the club, that 6 players have refused to even talk about a possible move to the Banks’s. Who can blame them. Its a very nice traing ground apparently. Unfortunately, there are no players to train on it. We are in a far worse situation now than when Richard Money left. We have moved backwards. Oh dear, oh dear….
Moved backwards?…..Dropped off cliff more like! I think there is probably mild panic setting in at the club at the moment.
You just keep pumping out the excuses JM……..yes you will be judged!
Interesting how JB has gone quiet again now that he has employed another YES man!
WE ARE ALL SITTING WAITING FOR THESE SIGNINGS CHAPS!………….WAITING………..& WAITING……….& WAITING!
(well at the the new training ground won’t get worn out by the trample of too many feet!) There I am being postive!
6. i totally agree.
n tha black kit signals the death of the club in my mind.
