Freddy tried to get Gower

eastwood.jpegWolves striker Freddy Eastwood has revealed that he tried to get manager Mick McCarthy to bring his former Southend teammate Mark Gower to Molineux.

The 29-year-old ended a five year stint at Roots Hall this summer, after the Shrimpers were beaten in the play-off’s and consigned to another season in League One.

When news spread that he was available, Eastwood recommended Gower to the Wolves boss, even though he had just been transfer listed and still looks to be on his way out of Molineux.

McCarthy chose to do nothing - so Gower joined Championship new boys Swansea.

Eastwood said: “Mark Gower’s got great ability on the ball and I really enjoyed playing with him because he created so much for me.

“He’s a brilliant buy, I’ve no doubt about that. Since I’ve been at Wolves, I’ve been telling Mick McCarthy to have a look at him because I think he’s probably the best player Southend have got.”

Tells you everything doesn’t it. MM does not like you. Shame really but there has to be a reason. Seems very strange though, a player on his way out in such bad circumstances recommending another player to the club.

I have heard that when Eastwood told Mick to sign Gower Mick did actually listen and David Gower is due to sign any day now.
Seriously though even as a season ticket holder in the Billy Wright Ive already been to the bookies and had a large wager on us being relegated and a separate bet on Mick gone by the new year, our current team is the worst in 15 years

  6. NorthBank Genius said:

Yeah he sounds just what we need, a 29 year old striker who couldnt even outscore Eastwood when he was in the lower leagues.

Will somebody please kill off this Freddie saga once and for all; I’ve had it to the back teeth!!!
Whether we like Freddie or not does not really matter, he is clearly on his way out (eventually) and the sooner we get to talking about the future the better!!

    See you Freddie!!!

Unwanted, unloved, unheard. It must stink Freddy being you and being at molineux.
I hope when pastures new come along things work out for you.

I thought he looked like quite a good player. He’s a goalscoring midfielder isn’t he?

  14. MancWolf said:

wouldnt bother fred he aint gonna listen to you is he

  15. Real Wolf said:

Listen to Freddy Mick. He clearly knows more about football than you. Maybe you should keep him in a player/scout role. When he’s not playing he could be sent out on scouting missions.

  16. E11 Wolf said:

Thanks for the interest Freddy but Mick seems to be blind to you as a player and so will probably be equally blind to you as a pundit.

Good luck to you. I hope you get the golden boot next season with SEB, keogh, Kites, in second to fourth places. That would surely get us up…

Yeh they are Terry we didn’t do quids for a quid or adults for a tenner or shirt sponsor for six figures come to think of it.

fair play to him for tryign to improve our squad by recomending players, even though i can’t wait for him to go. i think he is a good player but us fans have wrecked it by calling his name every game when someone misses a chance. its back fired.

12 - Yes terry they are, the picture is of the steve bull lower tier & was taken when we played the boggies

Gower is a decent player from what I’ve seen but I don’t think he’d add much to our squad. You could always join him at Swansea if Cov falls thru

  22. Cheltenham Wolf said:

    Don’t care.

If he’s so bothered he should get a job as a scout.

Please stop writing these articles about this PRAT.

Why does the player every day insist on coming out with some sort of comment just to stir things up, he’d do a lot better staying professional and just keeping his mouth shut as the number of wolves fans who will give him a good reception on his return is going to start dropping (me included)

  24. blondewolf said:

we dont want him freddie,i think mick seems to have a problem with southend players, that being he doesnt think there good enough to play them!considering your not keen on mick i find it hard to understand why you would reccomend a player to go through exactly what you have?

Ive had a dream………… Fred gets a hatrick at Mol fer Coventry, the South bank are chanting Freddy, Freddy Freddy then Mick resigns. I would much prefer my lottery dream to come true but I think the Freddy one is a dead cert. Good Luck Freddy.

The Express and Star doesn’t have to try and make Mick look bad, he is perfectly capable of doing that on his own!

    5. AJ

What odds did you get on us being relegated?

    Surely Keogh is transfer-listed?

Mick is far too superior to listen to others.

gower is actually a very good midfielder, this is a suprising story

  32. wolfie2468 said:

Happy Wolf, u ain’t gonna be wrong by the sounds of it. These idiots would rather support Freddie than the Wolves. I remember when some of the South Bank chanted Freddie when Keogh missed a chance. I’m just glad I was one of many to drown them out. UP THE WOLVES ! ! (Without Mr Eastwood)

  33. nige wolf said:

wish you couldve had a better chance freddie boy but you never, you dont score 20 goals in a relegation season if you aint got an eye for goal, i for 1 thought you would be a useful addition to us but upsetting MM was a mistake! get yourself back on track but make sure you are at a wedding or have a bout of flu when you play us! whoever that is with… spose redge will be on in a mo slating me for this one too!!!!

Everytime I hear the name ‘Eastwood’ it brings on a yawn.

  35. wolfie2468 said:

everyone, look he is going to go. Why keep going on and on about chances and stuff. Get over it. We are wolves fans and there are 20 other players in our club who need supporting. Its not a 1 man show. Grow up.

  36. AJ said:

Worcester Wolf (20) and Wolves (25) are obviously Albion fans- dont know why they bother coming onto a Wolves forum….re (27) Itsinmyblood, I got 12/1 for us to be relagated so had maximum wager

Some very strange and weird comments on here! Those of us living in East Anglia know what a good player Freddie is but something has gone really wrong somewhere and we’ll have to wait until a few autobiogs come out to know what the real problem is. The story is a long drawn out saga and will not be over for some time. If Freddie plays against us he will definitely be successful. It’s amazing how someone who’s played so few games for Wolves brings out the bipolar viewpoints. I wish him all the best after an awful season for himself apart from the internationals. terryMORONbaggie, that was what you wrote as wasn’t it, good luck in your own backyard next season.

5 AJ. Whats that stand for? Absolute joke?

  41. nige wolf said:

AJ, pathetic!! you dont know why 20 + 25 come on here? why do you, when you reckon wolves will get relegated? some fan you are, if anyone is the tesco bag mate its you, get a grip of yourself pal, but by reading your comments it looks like you regularly get a grip of yourself…lol

  42. AJ said:

(40 WVDaveeee and 41 nige wolf)why do you come on here? just spoil it for genuine Wolves fans- you must be either Albion fans or youve never been to a Wolves game in your lives and pretend to know it all, sad really, at least some people on here are genuine fans and welcome debate

  43. wolves ay we said:

i think he fell out with mick after coming back from international duty not fit enough to play for wolves. my personal opinion is he never got the chance, i would of liked to of seen him starting along side seb a few times but it wasnt to be & i still think he is capable of scoring 20+ for us next year.
