Baggies wait for shirt sponsor

Albion have put back a decision on a new shirt sponsorship deal as the club continues to struggle for a seven-figure pay day.

The Baggies were hoping their promotion would attract million pound offers from the corporate world.

Negotiations with “two or three” companies will continue for at least another fortnight, with chairman Jeremy Peace’s target of landing a seven-figure deal hit by the down-turn in the economy. The club had hoped to make an announcement on Friday.

It means Albion fans desperate to get their hands on the new shirts for the Premiership campaign will have to wait until the second half of July and then the dawn of the new season.

A club statement read: “Discussions regarding a new club sponsor are continuing.

“Negotiations are expected to reach a conclusion in the near future when a further announcement will be made.

“Due to this, the new away shirt is expected to go on sale in the second half of July, with the new home shirt following in early August ahead of the first home league game against Everton on August 23.”

The delay on a new main sponsor fits in with the patience Albion are urging from supporters in manager Tony Mowbray’s efforts to strengthen his squad.

Mowbray has been linked with a number of potential targets in the past fortnight none of which have carried much substance.

Speculation that Milan Baros and Swansea’s Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde were on his list are off target.

The Baggies did make a preliminary enquiry about Newcastle’s transfer-listed forward Shola Ameobi, but there is no motivation from The Hawthorns to firm up that interest.

    1. Sounds like a rock star, not a footballer. As long as he’s better than Baros or Amoeba then great.

Shirt sponsor story is interesting. Quite frankly, it would suit me if the shirts were plain for next season.

Finchy, not as long and hard as your season pal.
Another year in the cc with a muppet pulling your strings, oh I don`t think so, couldn`t think of anything worse.
You know as well as we do that TM will sign 5-6 quality players in the next 6 weeks, and they will be skilful, tecnically gifted, good passers and will become valuable components in the well oiled mowbray machine that lifted the title last year and passed you lot by.
Don`t blame you for being jealous, personally if I was a wwfc fan right now I`d be pig sick. Get rid of MM and you may see some light at the end of the tunnel, but whilst that journeyman manager is at the helm you will never, ever join us in the top flight.

I’m trying to hold my nerve with JP but i’m getting jittery about the lack of activity on all fronts. I just hope TM has the same patience…… before the “no-one has signed anyone yet” brigade starts we need the squad strengthening sooner rather than later but I suppose if we have to wait to get the right players I would rather wait after all i suppose it’s not what you spend it’s what you spend it on. Personally the Baros and Ameobi things I’m glad haven’t happened. Baros hasn’t stayed anywhere more than 5 mins which would suggest a flaw in his character?

    I’ll keep the faith!!!!!

FROM OUR WHITE AWAY KIT WHICH IS IN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL

    PULL YOUR FINGER OUT PEACE!
OH! AND CAN YOU SIGN SOME PLAYERS PLEASE!

  19. AMS said:

Apart from players on international duty the rest are on holiday and I think TM has been too so the coverage of nothing to report and have some patience seems a little premature.
The idea of TESCO sponsoring us is mildly amusing. Well done Wolfmeister and finchy for some genuinely witty and sensible comment.

Vagner Love?! Is he the Brazilian dude with the multi coloured dreds?
I haven’t heard of that being in the pipeline, but if it comes about, I’m definitely getting his name on the back of my shirt (whenever it’s released) just for comedy value, although it would cost a lot more than ‘Ned’.

I’ve got £80 burning a hole in my pocket just waiting to be spent on new shirts. Come on JP, get a wiggle on!!

  21. we8wba said:

i doubt very much you getting vagner love

18-I’m sure Peace is ashamed of himself after the diabolical way he has run our club. I don’t think he’ll show his face again. But there’s nothing to worry about, the future is bright with fans like you.

Leave the shirts blank dont have a sponsor like the real good old days. After all why should we part with 40 quid to advertise another company

  26. Nedball said:

25 - I think it might be something to do with the shed load of money companies pay to be advertised across the world.
That’s why he’s taking so long to make sure we get the best deal……it’s just doing my head in that it’s taking this long. It’ll all come together I’m sure.
On another note, I heard from my mate that Ameobi’s going to sign this week 100%. Not sure if that’ll be good or not….any thoughts?

My mate is an estate agent in Smethwick and has shown Vagner Love round some houses. He told my mate that he hopes to sign for the Baggies in the next few days and was impressed watching their Brazilian style of football last season. He was actually at the Hawthorns last season for their fantastic 4–2 victory over Colchester.

My opinion….WHAT A LOAD OF TOSH!!!

  31. Nedball said:

30 - We didn’t even win that match 4 - 2, which proves it’s all a load of rubbish! (It was a cracking match though).
Quality if it did happen, but you can’t see that being anywhere near the truth can you?!

  32. TonyWBA said:

30: Also who in the right mind would look for residence in Smethwick if you had that much money.
Bear in mind I’ve lived most of my life in Smethwick

  33. Happy_baggie said:

Tony 30 - got to agree with you…. now if he had watched the 5-1 demolition of QPR i could understand it….

Regards the story… where do the E&S get the “continues to struggle” aspect of this story ??

The club are still in negotiation with “several” potential sponsors so how are we “struggling” ??

In every negotiation there are two stand points - the buyers, and the sellers - and they are very rarely the same, so we are “negatiating”…. now I’m not a finacial wizzard like laughing wolf, but that all seems very normal to me.

I just find it a bit sad that a local paper takes every opportunity to print negative half truths and speculation about a local club - whats the point ?

To be fair we’ve got more chance of signing one of the Venger Boys!!!!

You don’t know how wrong you nearly are!

A couple of years ago - following the Great Escape - a young Brazilian striker by the name of Dudu (who at the time wasn’t an international - but went on to become one that season) was negotiating his contract.

A 10 million Euro fee had been agreed (roughly £7m at the time), but a Russian club came in and snatched him from under our noses with much more money.

Regards the “rumour” - can’t see it happening myself!

Now, Pavulychenko could be a whole different kettle of fish….. (watch this space…)

    ;-)

solo baggie.if wagner is so good you wouldnt have a chance of getting him.

I would love Tesco to be our new sponsors, so the bags match the tops. We could get club card points on match tickets !
July the 4th is when the new Wolves black away top is out on sale, so I hear ? Should be great for funerals and nothing else.
So we have no sponsors, no big signings, club up for sale, can’t sell the players we have, BUT WE ARE STILL BOINGING IN THE PREMIERSHIP THIS SEASON ! Wolves have bought loads of new players, everyone is behind Mad Mick, new away tops, new 40 seater stadium and there is a great buzz about Wolverhampton and it’s not a swarm of flies. No BOOBOYS after 10 game with no wins bottom of the Championship.

    IT’S BOSTIN BEING A BAGGIE !!!!

  44. Cyril Randle said:

No 38. If you Wulfies had any intention of going places you would have bought up Albrechtsen. Then you’d have had a good goalie and a good centre half to build a team round. You probably wouldn’t pay him a signing on fee.

  45. E11 Wolf said:

I’m surprised Albrechtsen is leaving because as everyone knows players love playing for Tescos. And it’s even more amazing that one of your best players went to Fulham FULHAM! on a free. And yet the Wolves players are saying how great it is at Molineux and recommend the club to their mates.

I love the wishful thinking of Dekker (12)..six new players - if Mowbray achieves that and they turn out to be good then you lot ought to Knight him.

Your clubs for sale, new owners might mean new managers and change and prospective players who are any good want to know the club wanting them is stable. Good players don’t need to take risks with their future.

I’m starting to fear for you lot but I really hope things change for you soon. You need defenders and you need training time for them to gel into a team. I expected Mowbray to make signings after the euro-championships. he had better get his finger out and soon.

  46. stevecorica.legend said:

    Terry,
Surely there’s a few ‘yo-yo’ companies out there somewhere willing to sponsor your multi-million pound Premiership outfit eh!!!!

  47. David Chorley said:

Dow chemical, makers of “baggies” plastic food bags should be the sponsor: It was reported that a completely transparent polythene strip was modelled, to which the fans said: “We can clearly see your nuts”.
