Jones keen to make his mark

joneswolves.jpegNew signing David Jones today admitted he has everything to prove at Wolves following his £1m move from Championship rivals Derby.

The 23-year-old midfielder checked in at Molineux yesterday after signing a three-year contract with Mick McCarthy’s side.

Jones helped the Rams to promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2007 after moving from Manchester United in the January.

But he lost his place and suffered from niggling injuries last term before regaining a spot in the side towards the end of the campaign.

“You’ve always got something to prove,” said Jones. “It’s a new challenge.

“I had a good spell at Derby in my first season but last season didn’t exactly go to plan for me personally or for the club.

“I played all the games in the Championship then found myself out of the team last season before I managed to work myself back in.

“So it didn’t go quite to plan. But I felt with the games I did play in, I showed I could play at that level.

“Now I just want to push my game on to a new level this season. I’ve seen the squad of players here and it looks really good and strong.

“It’s a big squad as well with a lot of quality players in there so everyone will be fighting for places.

“Competition makes you improve your game and that’s what I want to do - I want to take my game to the next level and I think Wolves is the right place to do that.”

Jones revealed he could have remained at Pride Park in Paul Jewell’s revolution following their relegation as the Premier League’s worst ever team.

“I could have stayed at Derby - the manager gave me the option,” he said. “He spoke with me at the end of last season, but I felt this was just a really attractive offer from Wolves.

“It’s always been a club I’ve admired because there’s a great history here and I know the fans appreciate good football.

“It runs right through too because all the staff are geared into the tradition of it being a real football club and that suits me.”

Instead of slagging him off before hes kicked a ball, how about we get behind him and the other lads and you never know, we may get what we all want. Worth a try as getting on players back hasn’t worked thus far…….

Great signing Mick! I wouldn’t bet against the moaners coming on and splitting hairs, but personally, I think this is a cracking signin for all concerned. I saw him play a few times for Derby and was quite impressed, plus his Man Utd roots imply he is a talent (but then so did Gibson I suppose)

Good signing anyway! Onwards & Upwards!

POTENTIALLY GOOD SIGNING..BUT AS I SAID BEFORE..LETS SEE THE BENEFITS ON THE PITCH..NOT THE E&S WEB PAGES.
REMEMBER..FREDDY WAS THE NEXT BULLY ACCORDING TO MUPPET ON HIS ARRIVAL.

LETS HOPE WE PUSH ON AND GET OUT THIS DIVISION..BUT FAR TO EARLY YET TO GET TOO EXCITED..UNLESS YOUR PART OF NEWBRIDGE’S HAPPY CLAPPER CLUB OF COURSE.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a new, quiet confidence about Wolves this season. We’ve made some great signings and another 3/4 should give us exactly what we need

Nice to see wolves sign a midfield player with ability to pass the the ball instead of a player who runs around for 90 mins like a headless chicken .

This guy is potentially top class. A good signing at a reasonable cost.
As fans we need to give ALL our players the encouragment they need to succeed. The team will need to gel, so patience will be required, but we are going in the right direction now, IMO.
Still need a quality striker and a cb.

Anyone think that Mick might change his ways and play a 352 with jones and edwards in middle with henry protecting the back three? Very attacking option?

Its all positive at the moment, well done to the management for keeping with there policys through a bit of stick!!! Its what most of us wanted & now were getting the right signings early which is the key. Were getting all our deals wrapped up. The new shape for the team is now starting to become more clear. With the average in the team now under 23. If kept fit during the season, stamina should be no problem. Kept together as a team long term with a few additions Wolves look in great shape for an assault on the Prem. Unlike our neighbours who appear now to be struggling to scrape together a team talented enough to remain in the prem having done so well in getting there in the first place!
More power to our management team keep up the good work,(after all you’re paid enough).

As players get older like Graveson their ability to command wages like those falls away. Not that they are any less able, could be that he might have to settle for a smaller amount, where ever he ends up.Hope its with us!

An adendum to my previous comment about Graveson. His is now according to the Everton News 32 years old. Cant see Wolves shelling out big wages on a player of that age with the current slant toward young and hungry. Great player though he is!
    Up the Wolves

i do believe were gonna do it this season!

  32. wednesbury1 said:

27,Cornish Wolf it would be a challenge for graveson playing in the championship but it’s really down to the dosh wolves are prepared to pay if they are interested.who knows he may settle for £20.000 a week with a promotion added bonus at the end of the season, Thinking about it it’s very tempting are you reading this Mick - Jez?

l’d rather be a happy clapper then a sad negative booer like no 4 SBBA and his very few cronnies. C’mon lets clap the boys on, lets get them into the prem, looking like its gonna be a goodun.
