Wolves wait for Berra and McLean

berra2.jpegWolves insist they are working as fast as possible to bring in more new signings – but are prepared to wait for Christophe Berra and Aaron McLean.

Hearts want £2m for their captain Berra but the chances of an early conclusion to the move have become even more remote, after interim head coach Stephen Frail was suspended.

Frail was ordered to stay away from the managerless Jambos’ Riccarton training centre until next week at the earliest.

He met with sport director Anatoli Korobochka at Tynecastle on Wednesday and was told – on orders from Lithuania, where the club’s owners the Romanovs are based – that he wasn’t needed.

Whatever happens, Wolves’ interest remains strong as Berra weighs up his future in the coming days.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We can only work as fast as the other party. It’s a slow market but we are pleased to be on the front foot.

“But we’re being thwarted by the lack of response by the other side which is frustrating for everyone who loves Wolves.

“Steve Morgan wanted to move quickly and so did myself and Mick. None of our players have gone out the other way which is symptomatic of a slow and lethargic market and that’s the frustration.

“But we are moving much quicker than many clubs.”

Berra, who is contracted to Hearts until 2011, was the subject of a failed £1.5m bid from Wolves earlier this month, while Rangers had a £1m offer rejected.

Wolves have also arranged two more friendlies. They travel to Chasetown on July 18 and Rhyl on July 26.

I’m quite confident that the board have learnt their lessons from previous seasons, and that they are doing their upmost to bring in what we need.

its not a slow market thats slowing the exit from the mol its their obvious lack of talent which means that there is limited if any interest in them!!!!

I’m waiting for the usual posters to blame MM for the delayed signing of these players!!

    4) Mate, I sometimes think that the negative posters maybe wind up Albion fans but sadly this is not the case.
With such a young, promising side, there is no place at the golden palace for moaners, groaners and booers. Stay at home and get nagged by your other half.
We have made some good signings and having players back like Murray, Davies and a fully fit Kightly is brilliant news.
We will be a side that teams do not want to face and I am quietly confident that we will be challenging at the top, with these last few signings!

It’s always a slow market at this time of year with player holidays etc. It is worse when there’s a major competition going on too. You only have to look around to see how few deals have been done so far, Wolves have certainly achieved a lot compared to most… it is still only June after all.
I think the board have done a great job in keeping most of these transfers out of the public eye. I applaud them for the way they conduct business when it comes to buying in players. I hope they can match this on our own listed players and avoid too many losses!
While I’m not MM’s greatest fan I do think he’s got three quality signings with great potential so far. Let’s hope for a few more to come. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong next season and turns out to be the best manager on the planet!

still think we need a solid experienced central midfield captain, that guy from Leic fits the bill but i believe baggies are after him.

Yet again why bring McLean into this in the headline when he isn’t even mentioned in the article?

  13. Jon Finlan said:

Berra yes sign him up if possible as for mclean i might be worth a gamble but you could spend that money on someone like graversons wages to get us promoted, just like we did with incey.

  14. tomo said:

Matt_posh mclean wants to join and he s regected your contract offer pal he will be a wolves player soon pal

  15. matt_posh said:

He rejected a contract with improved terms - he still has 3 years to run on his current one so the only way he’ll be a Wolves player soon is if you cough up the asking price.

8 - its rob not road but still not a bad name.

there is to many moaners at wolves but i hope everyone can give mick a fresh start this year.

i wouldnt pay no more than 1.5m + 500k in add ons for mclean hes a 25yr old div2 striker & reminds me of izale mcleod, 3-5m is a joke i would rather buy b.healy for next to nothing.

  17. Steve posh said:

14 - once again you wolves fans think you have a devine right to sign any player you want. You are not a big club, if you were you wouldn’t of lost out on Ian Hume to the mighty Barnsley !

Forget McLean, but definitely need another CH. If not Berra let’s go for WHU’s Cal;um davenport. We’re alos reported to be interested in Liverpool’ youngster Adam Hamill, this is what Wikipedia syas about him -
Adam Hammill is sometimes described as a flamboyant and creative midfielder. He can play on either wing, or in ‘the hole’ behind the striker. He has a range of skills and good technique, accompanied by good pace and acceleration which made him an instant hit at East End Park. Many compare him to attacking widemen such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Joe Cole

Yerr i’d defiantly like this Berra to sign and is a captain which ccan only be good for our defence a young hungry captain especially bein’ alongside Stearman
