We nearly lost Stearman - Moxey

Wolves chief executive Jez MoxeyWolves chief executive Jez Moxey has revealed how they nearly came close to losing new signing Richard Stearman to a higher bidder.

In the end, it was quick dealing that enabled the Leicester defender to sign for them – despite the Foxes receiving a higher bid at the 11th hour.

Subsequently, the 20-year-old signed a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee to become the second arrival at Molineux this summer.

Moxey said: “With Richard, Leicester had another bid from a Championship club where they were offering more money to the player and club.

“Because we did the business swiftly and were serious about the player, they said ‘you were in there first.’

“We started early with both of our signings and made it plainly clear we wanted to sign these players before anyone else.

Is it the smartest thing in the world to tell the world and the player that he could have got a better pay deal elsewhere. I prefer it when we don’t do this kind of silly bragging.

Is Jez saying that all his ridiculously long negotiations in the past were a mistake then?

Only a couple of years ago Wolves transfers used to drag on for weeks. The difference now is that Morgan is in charge so keep an eye on Moxey and maybe Jez has learnt something along the way.

bet Leicester fans are loving hearing that they sold him cheaper than they could. Can you imagine if we sold a player and then 2 days later heard that kind of comment? I’d have kept quiet on it - but then I’m not as much of a self publicist as our boy Jez. In fact, Andy’s not even my real name

Lets all have a pop at Jez again eh! Makes me laugh! As stated by someone else up above the agent and the player would have known about the higher bid and BOTH were still happy for the deal to go ahead. I just think Jez is saying job done really and actually trying to say the lad REALLY wanted to sign for us BUT as usual anything the guy says has to be used against him! I was wandering how long it would take for everyone to turn on him again after all the “well dones” of the last couple of days.

    19) They have to come onto our pages, as there is a deafly silence with the transfer activity at the Poorthorns. No buyers and no new players.
They had to give Bednar a contract due to his performances last season, but will more than likely struggle in the Premier. Luke Moore at £3.5 million is a massive gamble!
Our new signings will be young and hungry and the average age of the team will be less than 25. It all looks good for the future!

Isnt this lad a Wolves fan? And if so, How hard would it have been to pursuade a lad who supports the club to become a Wolves player??? Sorry Jez - If thats the case, its not down to your “negotiating skills” - more like the lad wanted to come regardless

Jez - most people do their jobs and dont expect praise everytime they do it!

Moxey is fantastic for WOlves. Some fans will never respect the powers that be in any organisation. He is a leader, he can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time.

However anybody who states that Moxey should be out or in someway appologise for anything is way short of the mark. Please learn some respect. This guys has made some fantastic signings and has helped make WOlves a real power in the transfer market. Gone are the days where we would spend £4million on some has been.

Other clubs now know that WOlves are no push over when it comes to negotiating, and that is down to Jez.

Re “The Fox” - well you would want to go to a better club and give yourself a chance of premiership football the next season - if you want Championship football in a few years time - watch WBA !! Watch may be the wrong word - suffer is more apt !!
