Mullen warns of hard task ahead

wd2813244jimmy-1-nb-23.jpgWalsall boss Jimmy Mullen admits reaching the play-offs could be even tougher next season as standards will be “as high if not higher.”

League One may have waved goodbye to the riches of Nottingham Forest, Swansea and Doncaster but title favourites Leeds and Leicester, promoted Peterborough and 2007 champions Scunthorpe are among the sides expected to provide stiff opposition.

He said: “What I would like to see is us emulate what we achieved last season for starters. You just have to look at the clubs in this division.

“There are a lot of clubs with a lot of money building up bigger and better squads, so the standards are going to be as high as they were last year if not higher.”

Maybe we should have invested last season when we were in the Play-Off positions. Or better still, not sold our two best players. Still, no excuses for you Jimmy, according to Jeff you’ve got a transfer budget that far exceeds the one DD had. Although we’ve yet to see a penny spent of it….

We have every chance of emulating our performances from the start and end of last season. Stop messing about!

So predictable! Mullen now laying the ground for failure! Best man for the job?????? You are having a laugh! I suppose when we win one game in the first 5, he will be saying that we have started better then last season? Oh you make my sides ache!!!! HELLO…pre season training starts next week, who are you going to train? The youth team? Go on Mullen prove me wrong……I would like nothing better!

Sounds to me like he fully expects to fail.

Yet another positive story coming from those at the club who are meant to be motivating the players in the run up to the start of the new season.
It’s going to be a case of meeting your team mates as you run out onto the pitch at the first game at this rate.
Also, haven’t we usually heard by now how well season tickets sales have been going? The culb seems strangely quite this year on this topic. I can’t think why!

Mullen you are becoming a waste of space before you have even started.

You lot love to moan dont you
    Be realistic
If i was having a bet I would also be looking at Leeds,Leicester,Posh,MK Dons,Scunny and Carlisle as the teams to do well in League One.
It will be a tough league so he is telling us as it is!
WE will do very well to reach the play offs even assuming we get a good squad together over the coming weeks.
We are not expected to get promotion or reach the play -offs - anything like that will be a bonus.
I am still confident Mullen will put together a squad which can challenge those clubs expected to do well but I am realistic.
I want Walsall to do well and I am hopeful we can start to build a decent squad for the season ahead, talk of boycotting matches, wearing ant-Bonser tshirts and other moans will not help the club.
Is anyone ever positive on here?

Daventry Saddler - definition of positive

certain, assured, confident, convinced, absolute, clear, firm ,real…….

None of the above apply to the dismal state of the Saddlers. Anyone who feels positive that in 5 weeks time we will have a first team let alone a “squad” capable of competing at League 1 level must be barking. Recent history shows a glimpse at the future whilst JB is still around.

I want to be positive but how can we be?
This is what happens every season, why dont we take a chance this season on players, who knows it might actually work! Sod caution lets have a good go!!!

I can see where Daventry Saddler is coming from: he is trying to be positive at a time when things in Walsall’s garden are not very rosy! Why have we not made any new signings (and if anyone mentions Sean Geddes I will scream) yet when every other club in the country seems to have? I’m fed up with this relentless pragmatism, it’s really wearing me down. I want to log onto the E&S website and see that we have signed some decent players - players who we have heard of (I suppose it’s nearly time for the foreign triallists to arrive!) - who will make our team better. If we are not going to get anybody good in we should have kept Wrack, Roper, Mooney and Sonko. Where’s the money gone?

Im starting to get very worried, time is running out,i cant remember us ever being in such a bad situation,we have no players,no money for signings,we are going down BONSER OUT !!!!!!!!!

Daventry Saddler will be off to see the Saddlers play at The Ricoh soon……..first Dann and Fox and now they are interested in Gerrard and Deeney! It’s all very well having a go for not being positive…….where have you been for the last 5 months, while the club has been asset stripped? If you want to keep funding JB’s pension then go no, but I for one won’t be a supporter until some money is regularly being turned round into the squad. A fan yes……a supporter no!
A VERY SAD SADDLED OF 33 YEARS!
