Stearman the man at centre back

The 20-year-old Wolverhampton-born defender filled virtually every outfield role at Leicester and his versatility makes him a valuable addition.

He joined from relegated Leicester, his first and only club, for an undisclosed fee this week, signing a four year deal at Molineux.

He said: “I’ve been playing everywhere but left midfield and goalkeeper at Leicester. I ply my trade in defence at centre-half and right-back mainly.

“That is where I’m looking to play for Wolves but, to be honest, I’ll play wherever the gaffer wants me to.

“Hopefully I can get us to where we should be.”

Stearman had been expected to sign for a Premier League club but insisted he was happy to join the ‘young and hungry’ revolution at Molineux.

He said: “Mick was very optimistic when I spoke to him which is why I am so happy to be moving here.

“He wants this club to be in the Premier League and expects us to be up there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“That was one reason why I was so eager to join Wolves.”

Stearman joins Wolves’ growing early-20s brigade.

He believes having so many players in the same age bracket is beneficial to a healthy team spirit.

He said: “Mick told me he is building a young, hungry squad. There are quite a few young lads which should mean we can enjoy a good team spirit because we’re all of a similar age, so it’s looking good for the future.”

Leicester have claimed Stearman’s agent refused to talk of staying but the player admits he was always going to move.

He said: “I was sad to leave because I was there since I was 10. But the opportunity to come to such a prestigious club was the best thing for everyone.

“The club got the money, I got the move and Wolves got a player that can help them get to the Premier League.”

He can play anywhere, that’s why Mad Mick signed him then, a natural for his weired team selections!

  3. DudzieWolf said:

He did well last season then, I suppose he can’t be any worse than Darren Ward. But then I’m better than Darren Ward. What Prem clubs were after him? WBA, Hull and Stoke I bet…won’t be any of the established ones. Still good luck to him, I hope he does the job. We’ll wait and see

    8. Do you have trouble accepting reality, with support like that who needs enemies.

I think this is a real positive signing and look forward to seeing him play, to of been in the first team since he was 17 is testemant to his ability, lets hope, like I think all true fans do, that his experience at wolves is one that both us and him benefit from.

    Good luck

I hope this young lad doesn’t read the rubbish that you people write on here, we have just signed a really talented player with local roots who is one the brightest defensive talents in the game & you guys are already having a pop, I’d laugh if you funny, but you’re not.

May I suggest you your ’support’ else where, perhaps a little toilet off the A41, you would fit in well there!!!!!

he has had 10 managers and all ten kept him as a first team regular and didnt sell him………….
he must have something about him to go through 10 managment changes and all of them wanted him in the team.
on that basis alone i am a happy wolf

You do again seem like a club in decline, signing relegated players that have been overated by everybody at our club to inflate the price paid by yourselves. Not since Walshy knocked out Bully have i laughed so much.

    21 - a club in decline!

just been relegated(have you ever been to lovely bescot)?

how many managers in 2 years?

selling your best players(stearman fan & player of the year)

dropped price of tickets through out the whole of last year (the only reason of highr average attendance than us)

the list goes on & you say were in decline! i havent laughed so much since you signed carl cort.

This seems to be a very positive signing. I’m delighted with Richard Stearman.
Still, let’s not get carried away. He will HELP to solve the problem centre-back position, not solve it. Even with him, we will only have three centre-backs on the club’s books.

Now is the time to get behind Mick McCarthy. I was in favour of Mick being sacked last December, but the situation has changed.
    1) Steve Morgan has got right behind McCarthy, and Steve knows Mick better than I do.
    2) Now Chris Coleman and Paul Ince are no longer available, I’m not sure I can think of a good replacement for McCarthy. In that case, it seems irresponsible to ask for his sacking.
    3) One of my reasons for wanting McCarthy out was his character–his abrasive personality, his favoritism and his stubbornness. But, on second thoughts, perhaps Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough once had the same characteristics–if anything, Cloughie to a greater degree! Maybe these characteristics suit the manager’s job!

For these three reasons, I’ve decided to follow Morgan’s lead and get behind McCarthy again for one more year. This is a young team and needs our encouragement and support.

It’s a fact that Morgan has decided to give McCarthy a second chance next season! Do we want Wolves to succeed or not? McCarthy and the young guns–go for it!!!!!!! Us fans too, let’s give it a go!!!!!!

This is looking less like a good signing and more like evidence MM is using the scattergun method.
Aim the gun, pull the trigger and hope one of the pellets hits the target.
If one does, he can pound his chest and proclaim himself a great talent spotter, whilst conveniently ignoring the multitude of misses.
Trouble is, to run the system, you have to buy young, cheap and from the lower leagues. Dressed up with spin, of course.
Sounds vaguely familiar, somehow. Just can’t quite put my finger on where I’ve heard it.

ha a scruff can a scruff afford a baggies season ticket n 2 watch the hoops erm no!.
one fot the future yes your right there he will do well for you and youll flog him to a PREM club you will be in his old clubz posistion next year wiv super mm in charge LEAGUE 1!

  28. MARK TIPTON said:

England Under 21 International.20 years old 150 Championship appearances behind him and signed for under 2 million.Seems like a bargain to me.Tottenham adopted the young and hungry policy a few short years ago and they now look as if they could break into the Premiership top 4 elite

  29. Arron Green said:

i tell you what alot of you call your self wolves supporters , most of you were all moaning about him not signing no defenders and he has gone and got one you all still complain, ive been a saeason ticket holder for 10 years now 11 next season wolves run through my veins i dont bleed red i bleed bkack and gold so get behind the lads all we need now is a bully of a contre mind , two centre backs berra the main target sell oli for 3 mill use that to get berra , meclean could be good will SEB but not for 5 mill

so nest season lets get to the golden palace and support MM and the whole team lets be the best singing MM can make us the fans up the wolves

A huge turnaround in attitude, which is exactly what is needed.
    I’ll get behind the team a 100%.
I hope this season not one person hides behind false words.
I suggested last season that a lifesize print out of the league table should be placed in our dressing room where everyone can see it on a daily basis to remind themselves where in the league we stand, i hope this season this will be done, everyone associated with the club must at all times know our league position and must realise what everyone is fighting for, nothing less than promotion.

  31. WOLFIEPAUL said:

Build our midfield around Mark Davies as well

u16 u17 u18 - well done . what E&S forget to mention is that a player a bit closer to home took his place for the first team, perhaps the England selectors thought he was a better player? Yep you guessed it Mark Little and you can see how well MM has treated him - be careful Richard dont believe the hype

  39. Bridget & Tony said:

38 Jonus - Good Point - Mark Little should have been given more regular games last season instead of MM’s favs - especially N Collins at full back!

Lets just hope that MM suddenly becomes sensible and gains some brain cells in the tactics department also!

We just need another decent centre half with 2 or 3 more additions in other areas and we’ve almost got a complete set for the first team squad!

NB* Dont beleive MM will achieve much even if we get promoted BUT lets just wait and see! (down to lack of ideas on the field of play)
