Smethwick skipper sets target

wicket_keeper.jpgSmethwick captain David Banks has set his side a target of two wins and two winning draws in the next month to get their promotion bid back on track.

Banks’s side, who face second-placed Ombersley on Saturday, are third in dvision two despite their game against Water Orton being a washout without a ball bowled.

He said: “If you can be solid and pick up a couple of wins and a couple of winning draws in the next month, then we will be OK.”

“I am more concerned about the cricket we are playing and if we are doing that, then the cricket will look after you.

“We just need to get a run going and play consistently good cricket.

“That said, we have been quite good and solid in the way we’ve performed so far.”

Banks believes the weather affected their promotion chances last season but knows they have to make the most of their luck when they do play.

He said: ‘Abandoned games are fine when they are against teams up there with you, but when they are against teams down the bottom, that is when we need to be winning.

“That is why we didn’t go up last year. It’s a bit frustrating but we don’t expect other sides to lie down, we have to keep rolling the points in.”
