Wolves are poised to clinch the signing of David Jones within the next 24 hours.
The Derby midfielder is in the final stages of finalising his deal to come to Molineux as manager Mick McCarthy’s third signing of the summer.
It is understood that the former Manchester United youngster has already passed a medical, to follow Sam Vokes and Richard Stearman into the club.

Lets face it, Derby dont have any decent players, that has been proven already, so why are Wolves throwing away good money. If he had been any good, clubs better placed than Wolves would have been in for him, I just hope the Wolves fans aren’t feeling too optomistic about their chances of promotion next season.

he has 7 good games a seaosn the rest and his no where to be seen. David Jones is a footballer who can apply the front 2 and link up with jarvis and kightly down the wings.
we also have dave edwards who in my opinion when fit last season looked better than george. Edwards can be our box to box man.
I’m pleased with this signing. I’m disappointed as always to some of the negative comments about the lad. What do some people expect ? For us to sign Ronaldinho !! At this moment we’re a championship club who are in the market for good championship players to get us up.. and this Dave Jones, I think fits the bracket. 3 more players please mick. A striker (Aaron Maclean), another midfielder (Gravesen ?) and a good experienced centre back in the Gary Breen mould. Then I will be really excited.

I suggested last season that a lifesize print out of the league table should be placed in our dressing room where everyone can see it on a daily basis to remind themselves where in the league we stand, i hope this season this will be done, everyone associated with the club must at all times know our league position and must realise what everyone is fighting for, nothing less than promotion.
I think the lad will be a good signing, he has a cracking shot and will hopefully provide some much needed goals from midfield. If we get Jarvis and Kightly banging in a few along with SEB having another good season that could be the difference between play-offs and automatic.

If MM gets enough players on the squad he can choose them by height or width. After last season he has a recognised difficulty choosing by ability.
My main concern 3 signings all youngsters from 3 relegated clubs.no real money being spent obviously no intent to invest until oli etc is sold.Amongst these youngsters we need experience in the ince/irwin mould what has happened to the money sm promised to invest in players?

Berra will definitely be signing in the next week or so, he is currently on holiday in Zante and told Martin Riley the deal is done and will be going straight to Molineux when the transfer will be revealed to the press. He said he has been given dispensation not to return to Hearts’ pre-season training, whose players have already returned.
We still need a CB (preferably with a bit more experience) a LB, an in ya face type midfielder and a striker!
This is the year to really go for it.
Zamora on loan/purchase from WHU would be great, even Sibierski released on a free from Wigan, good in the air and mobile. Howard from Barnsley worth a look. CB + LB ???

3 Signings all went down with there clubs more signings from relegated teams to come, Master stroke from Mad MM, Buy everyones Crap.
Rob Edwards may stay fit and prove his worth, he and Stearman might be quite handy… we’ve got experience a plenty in Craddock. If it is true Jones can play on the left as well, he’s cover should Kightly or Jarvis get injured - at least we won’t have to endure Elliott again then! So I don’t think we lack balance really anymore… I think i’d like to see Berra coming in though, never seen him play - but he does sound promising!
Why is everyone being so negative about these signings?! So what if him and Stearman have been relegated, surely that just adds to their ‘battlehardened’ experience and will spur them on to make sure it doesn’t happen again?
They may not be Premiership players, but what is the point in having Premiership quality players and paying them Premiership wages when we’re not even there? We’re signing good championship players which know how to get us promoted. Once we get to the Premiership THEN we can worry about how good the squad is.
I quite frankly do not care if we sign a team full of traffic cones for a year, as long as they get us up!
Bursting the bank for vetran single players who have been there, done it and probably haven’t got the desire to do it again is something which I hope is far far behind us. Yes they may have quality, but quality is not everything. Look at Turkey in the Euro’s. They don’t have many outstanding quality players, but they do have a fantastic team spirit. This is exactly what MM is trying to build at Wolves.
All players are on around the same wage, they’re the same age and all have the same goal….
..to get us where we need and want to be.
Oli’ aint as amazing as everyone on here seems to be saying, i do like him as a player but he is a tad overrated, this Jones will score goals for us, mark my words…

If Mick can make it 5 or 6 new signings this summer, then they should all be ready for the tranfer list next summer. If next season is anything like the last one, god help us all !

I am ignoring any Wolves ‘doom and gloomers’ and ’sour grapes’ Derby fans, as far as I am concerned another good signing.
I see we missed out on Hume, but so what. He was one of Leicester’s better players but is nowhere near prolific and would be sat on the bench. Let’s not let Peterborough dictate prices, give them a take it or leave it. Keogh will get better and better, with renewed confidence playing for Ireland and I am sure Vokes will be a good striker. We might need a more seasoned pro up front!
Let’s face it, we don’t really know how good Sam Vokes, Richard Stearman and David Jones are.
However, as a statement of intent by Steve Morgan and the Board, paying good money in transfer fees for three players before the end of June is fab! And Wolves have done it before succeeding in selling any players! Really showing ambition for a change!

I can’t believe that there’s so many negative comments, especially after signing Stearman yesterday (a fantastic signing) and on the verge of signing Dave Jones (a fantastic signing in the pipeline).
DJ was probably the best midfielder in this division when Derby got promoted two seasons ago. He’s got a terrific left foot, not afraid to shoot and can take a quality free-kick (we can’t say that about anyone currently at Wolves).
He did, however, suffer an injury(ies) last season which kept him out of the side for most of the time. Hopefully he’s over them now.
I, for one, am becoming more optimistic as the season draws closer.

Stearman was in a defence that conceded about 10 goals less than yours. Jones was in the team that beat you in the play off final and Vokes is the sort of player you should have gone for , instead of that waste of space… Luke Moore.

When he was out for African Nations this season we were useless and lightweight in midfield. He didn’t have a good season, but he was still by far the best midfielder in the squad.
His physical presence, ability to win a ball cleanly and decent passing will be sorely missed.
I hope he goes on to achieve great things as he’s been a good servant to the club.
Jones looks to be a good signing, but he’s not really much like Oli at all. Our midfield is looking decidedly lightweight already.

David Jones is a talented player who fell between the opinions of two managers.
Mark Davies is a very talented player but he has been injured for most of the last two years. I hope he does get fit. Having very good players competing for places is a healthy position to be in.

Love the negativity of this club, people saying we have signed 3 relegated players, so that would mean Dave Kitson would be a bad signing because he was relegated with Reading, that would mean Muamba is a bad signing for Wigan because he was relegated with Blues! get a grip everyone, the best thing to do with a relegated club is strike as soon as possible, get there beset players and leave the dead wood that got them relegated. The 2 best players Leicster had have now been sold back to championship clubs.
Looking forward to seeing who else we add in now, we always seem to snatch one or 2 more in august after getting players in early, so there could yet be more to come! Should be an exciting season, think MM and his players owe us a big season and I for one hope they deliver it.

This is not 1952 when Stan Cullis first started managing the Wolves, there is a different ethos nowadays, and those players are out to further their own careers.
It may be that our desire to get where we want to be also coincides with their ambition as well. But don’t think that we will ever find a Billy Wright playing here again!
Spoke to some Derby fans today who rate him. He was out injured for 5 months of the season and came back to a team who were already as good as relegated. They said he tried his hardest and still looked better than most of the rest of the team.

David Jones was arguably Derby’s best player when they got promoted, pretty good at set pieces aswell.

Trying to talk-up the Wolves management into being something special is just too much. We have seen the flaws and constraints with our own eyes.
Mr Morgan paid his £10 and he now owns the club. We can’t argue with his decision to retain Mad Mick, but don’t try to kid life-long Wolves fans to believe in Merlin-type powers again. We watched with disbelief his elementary failures last season.
These signings look promising, but when shortly they are played out of position, favorites get played instead of the in-form player, and overly defensive tactics are employed, then we will have another dire season on our hands.
Wolves fans have voted with their feet, and season ticket sales are down by nearly a third against last season. That is the true indicator of where we are today.

80. Grace. If you sign enough players from teams who have managed to beat the Albion you might one day end up with a team that is capable of doing likewise (for a change).
Never seen him play so don’t know whether he is any good or not. I know we need more goals in the team and someone who is really creative in Midfield - we have lacked both bigtime and it has cost us in the end. Going back to when I used to stand in the North Bank we had Mike Bailey and we need another Mike Bailey now!!
I still think the team is short on goal options and that if we don’t address this in the next few weeks, all that will happen is that we will play attractive football without scoring enough goals to win matches. This has been our problem for a long time and will continue without the required creativity - flair and strength in midfield. If SEB is injured we are basically well and trully stuffed. I still think Freddie could play a part next season if he was given a chance..

Look at the players he’s signed; SEB, Keogh, Kites, Jarvis, Foley, Dave Edwards and now Stearman. There has NEVER, EVER been a Manager who hasn’t signed a duff player or two and MM’s no exception - look at Eastwood, £1.5M for an average (at best) forward. I’m sure he would have played Sparky had the kid been fit. Another Manager would have got a ‘Keeper on loan rather than play an untried 20-year-old, but MM had faith in Henno and what a player he’s turning into.

Stubbornness OR persisting with the players you believe in and giving them the experience necessary to improve?
Playing people out of position OR encouraging players to broaden their abilities and develop?
OK! Things turned pear-shape last season. But Ireland went places while McCarthy was in charge (unlike this year!). Sunderland ran away with the Championship in 2004-05 getting 94 pts (9 more than the 3rd team), scoring 76 goals and having a GD of +35. McCarthy had a dark season in 2007-08, but as your name suggests, “Out of darkness cometh light!”
Let’s look on the bright side. Let’s give it a go next season. What is to be achieved by giving up on McCarthy? Do we want success or not?
