Premier League newboys Hull are set to battle it out with Wigan for Wolves’ want-away midfielder Seyi Olofinjana.
He had a transfer request granted this week and is available at £3m.
Hull boss Phil Brown believes that the Nigerian international has what it takes to be a vital cog in his side and as well as formally registered his interest.
He said: “Olofinjana could play in the Premier League and I would be interested.
“But there has been no contact and to say any more would be disrespectful as I have not talked to Mick McCarthy.”
Wolves have allowed Olofinjana the chance to play in the top flight, as part of a gentleman’s agreement.
Wigan have already been heavily linked with the 28-year-old, who was just 12 months into a four-year contract.
Now Hull, who won promotion through the play-offs after beating Bristol City at Wembley, could be set to offer him a dream move to the top flight.
Wigan are also expected to make a move. Latics boss Steve Bruce has long been linked with the lanky midfielder from his days in charge of Birmingham.
Another player surplus to requirements at Wolves, full-back Charlie Mulgrew, is awaiting the outcome of Swindon’s £125,000 bid.
County Ground boss Maurice Malpas is awaiting permission to speak to the former Celtic man, after submitting a cash bid last week.
Malpas said: “We put a bid in for a player last Thursday morning. The club have promised to get back to us, so hopefully we will hear in the next two or three days.
“I haven’t spoken to the player because technically I’m not allowed to but I have spoken to the agent.
“It’s a case of getting a deal done with the club, then going to the player and doing a deal with him.”

Let’s get these two off the books ASAP (as long as we receive adequate fees), we do not need/want any grumblings when we report back for pre-season training on Monday.
Let’s also shift out Bothroyd, Elliott, Ward D, Eastwood, Potter, Edwards too!!!!!
i don’t see why he would wnat to leave wolves to go to either wigan or hull both will be fighting for their lives at the bottom. The atmosphere at wigan is awful. why would anyone want to play for them?
hull the atmosphere will be alot better but they are favourites to go down so whats the point george?
just get promoted with the mighty wanderers.
aint he gonna look a bit of a twit if he goes to Hull or even Wigan for that matter and they come straight back down?
The mighty Hull City and Wigan Athletic both trying to sign one of our best players !!! We nead a reality check and fast, these giants of English football are in Premiership and we are not !! Morgan needs to start spending proper money, will the Leicester defender really turn us into a top two team ? NO ! We never really looked like we were going to go up last season even though we started joint favourites. The league is going to be far harder this year, we are currently joint 6th favourites to go up, does anyone truly believe we can finish top 2? We must go up this season AND THE ONLY WAY THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IS BY MORGAN SPENDING PROPER MONEY.
It is a sad day indeed when one of our players leaves to join a ‘bigger’ club in Wigan or Hull, both of whom have come up from the lower leagues and passed us by.
However, George wants to show he can play on the big stage and time is running out for his career. I think we will miss his experience in the middle of the park, and we need to make sure we sign a suitable replacement, should be able to with £3m.
I don’t care where he goes or how he looks, just give us the money!
2. wolfmadgaz
He will consider these options (Hull/Wigan) ‘cus of the money that will be on offer, as evident in Gera moving to Fulham.
The thought that footballers prime motivation for moving is for better football environment are gone. The ultimate deciding factor will be money. Even tho’ I support the Baggies, I believe that come 2009/10 there is more chance of Wolves being in the Prem. than Hull and, to a lesser extent, Wigan.
2. wolfmadgaz & 3. wolvesmod : One definite year in the premier with a pretty good chance of further seasons in the top flight or try for promotion (again) at wolves?….. mmmmm… let me think…….. oooh, what would you do? (c’mon be honest!).
yup, take the money & run as quick as we can. wigan on a wet, windy feb night with a sub 10000 gate………… hull 6 down to a manure 3rd team at home….. enjoy george!
Could ave easily run his contract down and gone on a free pocketing a nice signing on fee like kenny miller did but has acted like a true gentleman, not many like him left in the game, all the best whereeva u go olly
Right then, off you pop, if we get 3m for I’ll drive him there myself.
V Overated
Though he did do the decent thing & sign a new contract, so he can’t be a bad character.
3 Million, Snap There Hands Of
10. All I can say is that it’s a good job there aint many true gentlemen like him in the game, I can’t believe your outlook on this.
He will never do any good in The Premiership and £3 million is a very good price.Lets just hope we can now get rid of some of the real dross at the club eg Potter,Ward,Bothroyd,Elliott etc.
Maybe George was overated, however he was also one of our top 4 players (Kites, Seb, Hennesey) will we be able to replace him with anyone better ? or will it be Clemence from Leicester ? you only sell your best players when you know you can replace them with better, and I fear we wont.
Good riddance, i thought he said he wanted to stay a couple of weeks ago!!
From the looks of it you wolves fans think hes overated ? After seeing him play several times i think hes a good player and worth at least 3 million.
Georgr Berry you are a realist, just look at the teams that went up last season and they all had experience running through the spine of the team. I have been going on for nearly a year about this pathetic propaganda of “young & hungry” i’m sick of it. We need to buy QUALITY especially in midfield.
Let’s have a realism check if our good youngsters dont go up next year do you think they will stick around.
4 George, you obviously know absolutely nothing about football. Wolves spent the most in the championship last season and didn’t manage to go up. In the 2/3 years Dave Jones didn’t get us up we spent a shed load of cash. Just throwing your money around doesn’t always mean success.
Yes we can finish top 2, why not? look at our team at the moment, plus we will probably sign 2 more before the start of the season, i for one am very optimistic about this coming season.
And the signing of the Leicester defender can turn us into a top 2 team in this division! Go back to booing the team you part time fan!
14 sandwell
Would u care 2 explain which bit u didnt understand??
“I also explained to him that Wolves were a championship club who we will most likely be playing there next year anyway and also they have seven or eight strikers already and I would hate to see him making the wrong move.”
So says Possh chairman.
He has a point if we play negative football again next season, everyone behind the ball, and defend defnd defend….
Promising signings, make for a promising outlook for sure, i just hope we dont ruin our chances wiht poor tactics.
COME ON YOU WOLVES
14 - he could have been like some of your “Gentlemen” (Koumas, Geta etc) but he did the right thing by us & signed a contract so that we could get a fee gor him. He’s also a really decent bloke away from football
In response to 20.
Nathan, hand on heart do you honestly feel our squad is better than Readings, Birminghams and Derbys ?. We finished 7th in a very poor league last year, and as I have previously stated this years championship is going to be much much harder with the three mentioned above coming down, QPR spending big, Sheff Utd without Robson, Palace a full season with Warnock and Ipswich maybe starting to win away. Our current squad just isnt good enough for promotion, if SEB goes, well its midtable at the best. We need major investment on the squad to compete this season, I hope and pray we get it as at the moment the premiership looks a million miles away.
Oli is one of those players who seems to split the fans…. some think he is very good (the viera of the championship) and others think he’s over-rated and goes missing.
I think the baggies have looked at him, but based on your assessments I’m not sure if he would be a good buy for us.
We could do with some bite in the middle at times but would oli be the player to provide it ??
I also think Steerman is a good signing for you - he should add that missing pace you needed last year.
I don’t blame him for wanting to go, he’s done all he can for wolves in my opinion. Aint his fault some of the players around him arn’t good enough. Still laughing at the thought of having £3million for him tho.
21 & 23. Yes, because of the new contract he will get you a transfer fee & of course there was nothing in it at all for him was there?. We could have sold Gera last year but kept him knowing that he would become a free agent & probably move on. In the end he did score some of the key goals that actually got us promotion. Perhaps you ought to try to keep your better players when you have them wrapped up on contracts, oh, I forgot, as he is leaving you he is a load of rubbish & good riddance to him etc etc.
14, If I wasnt so embarrassed with the lack of signings at Albion, Gera walking and Philips stumbling over a new contract, then id come on here and ridicule, unfortunately I cant and i also think we will be swapping places with Wolves at the end of the season.
Hard for me to admit, but gotta be realistic.
What’s all the doom and gloom about? He had a poor season last season and a lot of fans don’t like him anyway. Bigger clubs like Celtic are interested but sell him to whoever. Like someone said earlier, at least he has given us the chance to recoup our money and more.
With a couple more signings and the walking wounded back, we will have a good season!
Oly wants a mid - table side. he does not have the ‘battling’ personality needed by the bottom rung of the prmiership. He will struggle if he does not have good players around him. Hull and Wigan are jokes so as someone already said - why leave OLY. You’ll be crossing over with us going up next year.
However I would hope Mick will get some midfield players whoi would make it difficult for Oly to get into the game. there is also the african nations nonsense to consider so maybe we’re better off without him.
24 George, Reading are a good team I grant you but i am not too concerned about any other team to be honest. You have said spend big, well who is spending big in the championship? Has anyone spent more then 2.5 maybe even 2 mil on 1 player? We was going to spend that on lafferty which i am glad we didn’t. I bet you wanted us to sign him just to prove we had the cash! We don’t need to spend great deals of money to become a force in this division. We have a fantastic nucleus. Our problem last season was, Kites injured for most of it and playing to deep and defensive in midfield. With Kites back, SEB in all season and a new creative midfielder in the pipeline, yes i think we can finally make the break through (although i grant you i have been optimistic before but this time has an edge).
You mentioned, sheff utd, ipswich (ipswich???) and QPR, behave. Reading will be our ONLY challengers to the title.
If you think the premiership is a million miles away then you are mistaken, its all of 14 months away, that’s it!!!!
On another note, Olifinjana is a top man, on and off the field, conducts himself like a true gent and treats people the way you would want to be treated. I don’t personally know him but my friend lives next to him in the flats on the worgs road in tettenhall. We will get our money back and some. I wish him all the best. He will be better in the premiership as it suits his game more then the championship!
to a lower league prem side hes worth 3 million as i think he will be better suited in that league, the problem with him at wolves is he had to play with rubbish around him like gibson & potter last year & its probably brought the worst out in him. at least he never did a kenny miller who has raised 5.5m in fees since he left, can you believe that in 2 years.
33) 5.5million - thats nowt - rob earnshaw has now done transfers totalling 12 million - 12 mill for earnie…. the world has gone mad.
saying that, i think Hartson clocked up about 16 million in fees in his career…. pound for pound thats not too bad.
Olifinjana will, in my humble opinion, do very well in the higher divisions with better players. If you saw the African Nations finals, you would have seen him more than hold his own against some very good players. All the best Olly.
hes been a good player for us but think its time to move on went a bit stale last season so if we get 3mil take it and freshen up the team with new blood
31,nathen,there you go agen, you never he albion fans blowing there trumpet do you,if you think youv only got reading to worry about your in for a big fall, why do you set yourself up with such utter rubbish, bristl, watford, palace, all finished above you last season and theres nothing to suggest they wont this season either, thats without the 3 relegated teams, your in for a reallity shock, get ya banners ready aye boing boing
36. well said
No35: Debenham Wolf
Cannot argue with your comments as I didn’t watch African Nations, but considering our goals scored last season, we definitely need to refresh our centre midfield completely. If you don’t score goals you dont get promoted!
PS are you Keith from near Stowmarket?
So Seyi will head in the same direction as Camara did. Up one season only to be down the next - suggest whoever gets him watches the clauses!
No 39: A14 Wolf
No, I’m not Keith from Stowmarket but Bob from Debenham.
2 - Who cares, let’s just the £3m in and reinvest
look we cant do nefing about georgey going so if he goes he goes as long as we get the money the that is all that matters….. olli is 1 of our better players but look we will reinvest and as long as WBA come back down i dont care if we sell him
At 1- Rob H– I agree lets clear the books and move on-Bury the old knocks at players on their way out–New Blood new dawn there will surely be other signings– I cannot say that G.will want to stay inspite of what is said in the E&S I have often wondered who writes the stories and certainly not the feelings of the players– Hope for the future it will be even harder I agree but lets move on–Crazy Dave
So let me get this straight…Hull want to get rid of JJ Okacha for free, & pay 3M for Oli to replace him.
good luck george bag the 3 mill and invest in a couple of solid young centre backs
take the money and go, he is overated and lazy
ill give him a lift to hull and wigan, and to say that these clubs are giants of football,, joke
