Dudley war hero Private Aaron Holmes was honoured by The Queen today for his outstanding bravery during fierce fighting in Afghanistan.
Her Majesty presenetd him with the Military Cross in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.
Aaron was aged just 19 when he earned the gallantry medal while serving with the 2nd battalion of the Mercian Regiment on a seven month tour of duty in Helmand Province last year.
Pt Holmes was brought up in Weybridge and moved to Netherton with his father John, 45, four years ago.
He said: “I joined the army for some excitement and was not disappointed in Afghanistan.”
He was among several service heroes honoured today. Others included his comrade Private Luke Cole from Wolverhampton
