Kightly at Wolves for long haul

kightly51.jpeg

Michael Kightly admits he would love to stay at Wolves for ‘many years to come’ and would pledge his future beyond 2012.

The star winger ended speculation on his future yesterday when he announced his improved four-year contract at Molineux. But the 22-year-old is determined to help Wolves to become a long term success.

“It’s a four-year contract which I’m very happy with,” said Kightly. “That will take me to 26, but I’m sure if myself and the club do well, I will be signing for longer.

“I’ve said to my family and close friends that the best case scenario would be to play for Wolves for many years to come in the Premier League. I have no desire to move back to London.

“I never said for one minute I wanted to leave and people can tell by the way I play how much I love being around the place.

“I’ve got a house in the area and I’ve just met a girlfriend, so my personal life is really settled.

“People say that because I’m from down south, would I like to go back? But that’s never been the case.”

Kightly added: “I’ve said from Day One I’m happy, there were just a couple of things that needed sorting out and they have been.

“Now that’s happened, I’m really excited about the new season to come.

“The prospect of myself, ‘Jarvo’ (Matt Jarvis) and ‘Blakey’ (Sylvan Ebanks-Blake) playing together for a full season is something I’m really looking forward to.

“We’ve got other good, young players in the squad, so if we can all perform the way we can, with a couple of additions, then we’ll be there or thereabouts.”

Kightly insists there’s no chance of resting on his laurels, adding: “It’s a nice long contract, but they don’t mean anything if you’re not doing well because then the club won’t want me.”

And the winger says the disappointments of the last two seasons has only made the squad stronger.

“It will help us in the long run,” he said. We don’t want to go up and come straight back down again.

“That extra experience will help us achieve what we need and really make a go of it.”

Sounds good, also did anyone see Ebanks Blake on Sky today, he said he doesnt want to leave and is already preparing for the new season. He said wolves are looking for top 2 this season and play offs would be at worst case scenario! Good vibes coming from the club!

Nice one, but i’m sure this is what Lescott said so…

That’s good to hear Kites. Best Winger in the Championship!

Wait for the negative moronic comments from happy and his mates.

Lets just hope he can stay fit next season.

hopefully the idiots who posted negative messages on here in the past about kites will read this article and then post apologies - doubt it though

Its all talk Kites and talk is cheap. Stay fit and do the talking on the pitch.

The reality is if someone comes in with a bigger offer you’re gone, if we don’t go up next season you will go.
So don’t spout things you don’t mean, just be honest

Good signing in Stearman. Bags of potential.

Can’t say that the Kightly saga and his comments above inspire 100% confidence. The guy may be a winger, but he’s also a whinger. A substantial pay rise will do for now, but if your new found confidence in the forthcoming season is misplaced, I suspect his loyalty may come under scrutiny again.

  10. shatpankwolves said:

not slagging the guy off but he’s had about 3-4 contracts in what a season and half!! he needs a new agent if they cant sort things out without needing 4 contracts!!!
bet his WAG had some say in his new contract talks lol

8 - some people are just never happy, I have it on good authority that premier clubs did come in with better offers (3 times what the wolves were paying him) and he has decided he wants to stop, so get off the lads back and show him a bit of support

  12. E11 Wolf said:

5 You are so right. Kites seems to be a really decent guy who tries hard and is probably grateful for the chance Wolves gave him. Now he’s got a better contract (and he deserved it) lets hope he can stay injury free and get us into the premier.

We are very lucky to have kites. Who knows -with his clear love for the club maybe he’ll eventually be held in equal esteem to Bully…

    4 - you are a moron.

When the wolves fans were forming a lynching party for kightly after he announced he wanted talks with the club, i posted to say give him a chance…. it actually took a baggies fan to bring some sense to rabble….

You say “wait for the negative comments from happy”… and then say “I hope he can stay fit next season” - the glass is always half empty with you lot aint it.

Anyway - enjoy him whist you can - this really is a make or break season for wolves.

It’s not even pre-season yet! All he can do at this stage is talk! At this time of year he’s hardly obliged to speak to the local press, he’s keeping us informed of his optimism for his future at the club and I for one am grateful to him for doing so.

  19. Cornish Wolf said:

Yes, Happy and it is a very big make or break season at the poorthorns as well.

  20. Golden balls said:

Happy: I have to agree with 4 you are a Moron.
You think you are full of footballing wisdom except what you are full of is a bit on the smelly side please spread it on the Albion.
Stay off these Wolves pages as you don’t belong. Hope you enjoy seeing plenty of goals down the baggies next season and as for make or break for Wolves….Why? with a young squad I think we have a few years before it becomes make or break and have to say the future looks bright.

    17. Happy… I’m not calling anyone a moron because who am I to decide that ? What you say is true and most of the time, despite what some Wolves fans say, you do talk a lot of sense. You get carried away now and then but I guess I can forgive you for that !! I for one welcome you and your comments on here.

  22. media wolf pete said:

2 - No, Lescott did not say anything of the kind!

  23. Happy_baggie said:

20 - who are you to tell people to stay off these pages???

Its idiots like you and 4 that drag these pages away from football debate and into the gutter…. If you spent half as much time and energy supporting your club as you do trying (and failing) to win arguments with me you wouldn’t be voted worst supporters all the time.

20 - yes its a big season for us - hopefully consolidating our premiership place - for you the stakes are slightly different. If you fail to get promoted there will be a mass exodus at the end of the season and I can’t see McCarthy rebuilding to the levels that mowbray managed.

p.s - “poorthorns” ?? Grow up. That wasn’t even funny when we weren’t a premier league club.

    Come on you wolvesssssss

  25. Filtonwolf (Bristol) said:

    24. jack….good on you my friend !! let’s get behind the team and really make the Mol a fortress that teams do not want to go to rather than a place where they know they can put 8 in defence and get a point.

  26. Breretonwolf said:

Happy, you usually make sense when you are serious. I always welcome your comments. You are very different from that idiot, Terry.

Football the ToMo way - a style that’s been lauded by experts from all sections of the game and the media - hell it only get’s worse, eh?

My comment on Michael Unsightly is in the same context as ShatpankWolves (10.) But then I don’t suppose you ever look further into a subject other than what’s put in front of you.

Oh well, I’m sure it will come in handy.

p.s - if this is a forum for debate then it really doesn’t matter whether you want my views or not does it !

Shall i order your t.shirt in extra large ?

Anyway, back to the sensible stuff…….

Like it or not, you need Kightly this season. Not only is ait a big season for your club, its a big season for Kightly aswell. So far he’s been injured for around half of the time Wolves have employed him - if he in fact does want to move on to a “bigger club” (or a smaller club that offers more money - cough, Fulham, cough) he needs to prove himself over the next 12 months or so.

Hopefully he’ll fire you to promotion - 2nd place hopefully so you don’t get to sample Wembley or a league championship!! ;-) only joking lads. All the best.
