Driver held after OAP road death

ambulance8.jpgA 76-year-old pensioner has died and two youngsters were injured after three separate car crashes in the Black Country and Staffordshire.

The man was struck by a BMW 320 outside the Beacon Fish Bar on Beacon Road in Pheasey just after 3pm yesterday.

Members of the public gave him first aid until ambulances arrived. The man, who is believed to be from the local area, was confirmed dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene, on the border of Great Barr and Walsall, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Meanwhile, a teenage scooter rider is fighting for his life after a collision with a car in Wolverhampton.

The 16-year-old, who was riding an Asprilla scooter, was rushed from Lower Villiers Street, Graiseley, to New Cross Hospital, after a collision with a Vauxhall Vectra at around 4.25pm yesterday.

He suffered serious head injuries. The driver of the car was uninjured.

A 10-year-old boy suffered chest injuries after being hit by a grey Renault Clio at the junction of the A34 Stone Road with Glebe Avenue, Stafford, at around 4.30pm. He was taken to Stafford Hospital for treatment.
