The gym at Dudley Leisure Centre has undergone a half a million pound revamp and will be unveiled in the next few weeks, it was announced today.
The centre’s gym has received a major overhaul as part of a modernisation plan for health and fitness facilities at a number of leisure centres in the borough.
It includes doubling the size of the gym at the Wellington Road complex and bringing in new equipment. Hi-tech data keys are also being introduced which will record the fitness progress of users. There will also be a replacement reception area and new signs.
Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “This is a huge investment in the leisure centre and will provide fantastic new facilities for users.
“Work is under way and we are hoping it will be open in the next few weeks.”
The improvement plan is part of a £1.4million investment which also includes Halesowen and Crystal leisure centres.
Some £500,000 has been spent on improving Halesowen Leisure Centre. Membership swelled from 200 to 700 following introduction of gym facilities at the site.
Another £250,000 was set to be invested at the centre to pay for further improvements.
