Albion striker Kevin Phillips will - as suggested after all - be settling his contractual difficulties for another season at the club.
Phillips has been angling for a two-year agreement, which the Baggies have baulked at, but there has been nothing in the rival offers to have been put before him this summer to match the lure of another Premiership campaign.
His agent Phil Smith: “We have come to terms with the fact there may not be two years on offer.
“The lure of Premier League football again is very big.”

I will be jubilant once the dotted line is signed, until then i will sit here very happy that the KP saga is looking alot more positive as this would be great news for us all.
I want Phillips to stay, but the pessimist in me is saying this is a media call by his agent to get more interest in Super Kev. Ill jump for joy when he signs, not yet!!!
come on kev just got to sign it now.:d
BAGGIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
HOOOOPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
GLAD TO SEE THAT SENSE WILL PREVAIL ON BOTH SIDES.
ONE YEAR WOULD APPEAR TO BE A HAPPY COMPRIMISE ON BOTH SIDES AS I DO NOT SEE SEE KP STARTING MANY GAMES PROBABLY BE MORE USED AS IMPACT PLAYER OFF BENCH
Just give him two years, he wants to stay and after the first year we can us him as a striker coach, Who better to learn from for our young strikers, how much would that experience cost us to bring in?
It’s obvious he doesn’t want to stay with you, otherwise why would he have looked round for another club? Basically, no-one will pay him what he wants so he’s decided to stick with you lot.
I know he scores you goals and is a good player, but if I was a manager I wouldn’t want a player like that in my team.
Great news.
6)He’s already said he dont want to be involved with coaching. How many times does he need to say it.
Things are looking up but I won’t believe anything until a contract is signed.
6, It’s not obvious at all, actually, it’s the opposite to what you say. He can easily move to a championship club but the lure of playing in the prem and another season under Mowbray is what’s tempting him.
6 said ” I know he scores goals and is a good player but if i was a manager I wouldn’t want a player like that in my team”….
….are you Mick McCarthy ??
KP is not a young player looking to prove himself, he is at the twilight of his career and this will be his last decent contract so who can blame him for looking around first ??
Does anyone expect blind loyalty from a player these days ? We haven’t given him the deal he wants, but I’m sure we are still paying a decent wage.
I’m just crossing everything that he signs now as he will have a big impact on the squad next season.
6. Rubbish! This is what negotiation is all about. Superkev is just trying to secure his future and nobody would blame him.
The baggies have lost money on these deals in the past and the chairman has played hard ball. Nothing wrong with that either.
If he had been a wolves player he would have done the same thing and I dont suppose you would have been so keen to get shot of him.
class act and if he’s good enough,he will get his two years. I really hope we can finalize it and get on with bringing in new players. next
good news for you guys as i rate him highly, maybe not as a starter too many times but he can come off the bench for 45 mins and give some teams the run-around all day long, well done.
Ok fair point. You’re right, loyalty is rare in the game nowadays. But honestly, what kind of example is he setting the rest of the squad by sniffing around for better deals?
Surely a man of his reputation and supposed ‘role model’ status should be trying to buck the now common trend? If older players like Kevin Phillips aren’t showing loyalty, then the it’s no wonder the younger stars of today are following suit.
12 knightly has just shown loyatly and if you look at comments from the wolves still a lot of negative feedback never happy has for super kev i dont belive he was ever going anywhere but he wanted 2 years because of hes dogggy knee only natural unfortantly he didnt get it for the same reason
Super
You`re views are very nice, very idealistic, and very naive.
The great god money brutalised loyalty LONG before this episode with KP.
And with the advent of manipulative agents, the young players do not need a grizzled old pro like Kevin Phillips as a role model to contractual behaviour.
And in summarization,
if KP does sign the one year deal on offer, then he will have negated the money only accusation that is being leveled at him.
13.. I disgaree with the Kightly issue .He has shown “loyalty” because of the rather large pay rise he got in his new contract. Good move on wolves’part because kightly is happy with the new pay rise and should a team still come in for kightly they will have to pay a very good fee due to the length of his new contract good bit of buisness if you ask me!
great news if it happens, lets hope he can score the goals to take us into the top 6,that would be great, getting fed up of all the so called big 4 domination & london clubs, every time you pick up a paper or watch sky sports news its always big 4 this big 4 that or spurs this or west ham that getting very boring
did i say top 6,we can but dream, boing boing
NO.4 It’s not a compromise on both sides at all.Peace said he would only give KP one year and KP has had to accept ‘cos no other Prem club has offered anything at all ‘cos they know he can’t perform consistently at this level.Nice to see GREEDY players brought back down to earth instead of holding the clubs to ransom.
we all sore how well KP played against Pompey. So what he nor the team scored, it still showed quality against a strong top 10 prem outfit. with the right young players around him KP can be a leader on and off the pitch. No-one can doubt his finishing, we just need to create chances for him which is what a TM side is good at!
Staying up the Mowbray way!
On the subject of agents Happy. I see that wonderful man of football Willie McKay is working his magic with James McFadden at the Blues. As it seems the Prem, the FA, UEFA and FIFA are powerless to ban them. How about them legislating that an agent can only receive a percentage cut of a players transfer once in a three year period, if they move more than this the agent would only receive a flat rate payment. This would make it pointless for agents to unsettle their players. I know this is pie in the sky as it wouldn’t suit Man U and Liverpool, not to mention Real and Barcelona but wouldn’t it be nice? Might even bring a bit of reality and a level playing field back to the game. About as likely to happen as a player saying ‘no, I won’t go, I’ve given my word by signing a contract.’
KP is a decent player i admit that but there is no way that KP will score more than 10 goals next season as his legs are gone. you need a younger striker who will score you 15 - 20 that may give you a chance but i predict you will be more or less down by xmas.
Anyone want a season ticket ?
upthewolves has spoken, clearly the font of all knowledge, therefore attendance is a futile exercise, and a miserable xmas to be had by all Baggies.
I am so disappointed, i thought we would stay up………….boo Mowbray out !!!
Upthewolves - At least we have an opportuntiy to stay in the premiership - and all the financial muscle that comes with it.
Whats your objective for the coming season. Mid table mediocrity with a manager noone likes and a board who don’t back their manager.
At least we have a well run club and are mpving on the right direction.
As your name suggest Upthe Wolves……where the sun doesn’t shine preferably
well said tom we r capable of playing premier league
Wbaforever tell me how you are going to stay up if all your hopes are on a OAP? If you was a club within a chance how come your best player left you for the mighty Fulham? i await your response with great anticipation.
Baggies are pleased, Kevins pleased, thats it then.
Kightly signed he could have left wolves and got the prem big bucks but hes stayed.
the Real Bully, I have left you a reply to your critisism of me under the 6 in for Gera story.
Anyway great news about Super Kev if he signs.
Boing Boing
brmsgrove baggie dont get all bitter and twisted i am just telling you what you already know. You want the truth? You cant handle you truth lol
21. like it!
think I’ll go down the pub and cry in my beer.
Why havent the wolves fans noticed Shakey deserting the sinking ship?
26 Romsley.
Before seeing this I’ve replyed to your reply on the Gera thread.
27 upthewolves.
Put a right in front of your name and it sums up what we’ve done to you for the last couple(and that’s being kind) of seasons. However to answer your ‘points.’ The OAP (I think you’ve been calling him that for the last couple of seasons, despite him scoring past you with almost boring regularity) scored one goal less than your latest big hope, despite missing a good chunk of the season with injury and having to share time on the pitch with other high scoring strikers. If as you predict he doesn’t get more than 10 goals, that won’t be bad as he’s unlikely to play many full games.
‘Our best player,’ as you’ve christened him, wasn’t first choice for most of the season and is 29 years old. Yes he’s an excellent player and I’d have liked him to stay but as they say worse things happen at sea.
how many new players have you bought to keep you in thr prem or are you lot happy with your lot? lmao my god i hope you get baros, that bloke couldnt hit water if he kicked the ball off a canoe in the middle of the med. lol
Romsley, me and Bully didn’t agree with you re:Peace, but I’d happily talk football with a pair of genuine supporters all day long.
However, I can’t even bring myself to reply to the utter tripe Upthewolves is coming out with.
21- wbaforever, that made me tickle
Up the wolves, keep the jealousy coming mate its giving us all a good laugh.
Shame about your lot and in particular the buffoon in charge, but look on the bright side he`s bound to be fired around christmas
upthewolves
Until you`re last offering (30) i thought you were a Wolves fan with an opinion, albeit a misguided one, consequently i intended to reply to
post (24) with reasoned debate,
but the comment about Baros tells me you are another dingle searching an argument, so it`s pointless.
24,Up the wolves.
What a sad person you are. Every post contains lol, but nobody else is laughing. Isn’t the old saying “only a fool laughs at his own jokes”. Get a life, or alternatively, come back to the debate when you’ve got something interesting or constructive to say. Moron.
30 ever heard the sying those who live glass houses shouldnt throw stones.
Baggiedad
LOL
Let’s hope this is the case. I think KP has been excellent for the Albion since the day he signed and he’ll continue to be.
Points made on here about him fishing about for other offers are ridiculous! Didn’t Stoke, Derby, Hull, QPR and a host of other Championship sides all come to him, but he’s decided to forsake their offers of 2 year contracts to play in the Premier League under a fantastic manager for a fantastic team?!
Yet, that still warrants him being greedy and not good enough?!
Fair play to Kightly by the way, that’s some good business on his agents part, less than 2 seasons with a top 10 Championship side, 9 months of which he’s been injured, but his pay has been increased again, and when the Dingles fail to go up AGAIN, he’ll be off with their blessing like Lescott before him.
staying in the prem the mowbray way,,JUST TO PEE UPTHEWOLVES OFF,,in style of course,,ooooooooooooooh yes.
11 Nige..he isn’t going to give premiership defences the run around but he is a bloody good signing - because of his experience and because he is such an intelligent player he will be effective. Maybe not for 90 mins however.
Dear ‘upthewolves’ please stop. you’re giving Tesco people the wrong impression of us Wolves fans. We are bright, intelligent, sophisticated and have excellent taste in regard to our football team. Please demonstrate those qualities…
I think it is fair to say KPs agent has touted him round all of Europe, and i think this is yet another bid by his agent to gain any late interest in his client. A cynic i hear you say, yep, years of witnessing players kiss the badge and then sign for another club for more money. The days of bomber brown and bull are long gone, football managers now have to swim with the sharks or get eaten.
wbaforever
You are our very own blog shakespear (the writer not the coach).
Almost poetic, and hows that black car of yours!!!!!!
KP will sign the stage and draw of the Prem is to much to turn down. Aledgedly his money has doubled as a result of prem football so I think that is worth 2 years money in 1…. if so a no brainer but you have to admire him for trying (via agent of course) that said.. Is he going to play regular or just come on and score the winning goals..not sure he will have the legs for the prem only when players stand off like Portsmouth did then his brain kicks in and he is well able..realistically though how many times will that happen!…We have a much better side today then our last prem visit and I believe in TM and also believe we are good enough… a central defender of quality and experiance wouldnt go amiss… bring on the Gunners…..
The bottom line is this.
West brom = Premier league
Wolves = mid table championship side.
If i were Wolves fans i would be quiet.
They went on about Koumas leaving. They went on about Kamara leaving. They went on about Daves leaving. They said we would never stay in the prem. We have proven them wrong many times.
The fact is that Wolves are a spent force in football. Their manager has underachieved and they dont have the financial clout that we have. Every clun in the league is subject to players wanting to leave…it has nothing to do with the club or their ambitions.Look at Ronaldo!Wants to leave the champions league winers to join a club that hasnt made an impact in europe for some time, even with the “Galacticos”.
I suggest that the Wolves fans on here show respect for the championship title winners and be more concerned about their own team this season. We are doing just fine…dont worry about us.Even if we come down we will go straight back up again the next season and be stronger for it. You lot just concentrate on staying in the league.:)
sorry for the spelling mistakes….was rushing!
Hows that peeing him off Worcesterbaggie?Im intrigued…….As for Phillips, it will be a tall order for him to score the goals you’ll need to stay up, against world class young defenders he won’t be a threat……
If this news about KP is true then it’s fantastic news. I won’t be counting my chickens though until he’s actually signed that contract!!
But definitely positive stuff!!
BOING BOING!!
Amazing how wolves fans now think KP is an OAP again. Two days ago (under Mclean article)They were all begging Moxey to sign up super Kev.
upthewolves-albion down by xmas thats like saying wolves up by xmas no chance,as the saying goes, you’ve got to be in it to win it,in our case in it to stay up something you dingles can’t say, wolves will always be a one season premier league wonder never to be seen in the top flight again, enjoy the championship all dingles seem happy to play plymouth away instead of arsenal
come on albion, give super kev 2years,let loose your tight pockets, after all he was a major factor gettin us there ,come on let loose.
Philips will be the the ace up albions sleeve if he signs that is
How much longer are sad, negative dingles gonna keep putting desperate messages here? It’s like some guy stuck in the sewers (chumpionship),looking up towards the street (Premiership),and trying to drag you down to their level by grabbing your ankles. The Baggies are with the elite-we’ve got no time for lower division whingers-please find someone of your own level to irritate.
BRISBANE BAGGIE SAID WELL SAID OPTIMISTIC WOLF COULD NOT AGREE MORE AT LEAST WEE AGREE ON SOME THINGS
yad a looffed this mornin i put txt on too look wot was happening and i pressed 555 thinking we was still in the chumpionship but we aint we in the prem ay we aye boing boing

Forsooth Bomber
The black automobile of which thou enquire that is mine chosen beast of burden, is indeed in the finest of fine fettles.
Alas though i cry, my brother in Baggie arms and dearest friend,
the liquid that doth propel mine internal combustion engine is becoming a costly affair,
on the morn of the sabbath, in the year of our god 2008, i was parted from 300 of mine groats so mine beast could partake in yet one more thirsty gulp,
and in truth my friend, it doest in mine head.
If events of financial restraints to the pockets of a lowly writer doth continue unabated, one will revert back to the penny farthing transportation that one remembers with great and youthful fondness,
or maybe i shall just wander, lonely as a cloud.
wbaforever - thats what happens when you drive the batmobile - gadzooks !!!
54 - BRILLIANT!!
terry, teletext is so last year !!!! lol
wbaforever,,,keep up the good work…….playin the prem the mowbray way,,,in style of course,,ooooooooooh yes.
39. (E11 Wolf) - It’s certainly pleasant to see some evidence of other genuine and pleasant Wolves fans, as some fans (of both our clubs) seem primarily determined simply to confirm their individual status as sour-natured inadequates…
Re the subject in hand, I would certainly be pleased if and when KP signs a new contract for us…
I remain a tad puzzled that whilst there are repeated indications of interest in yet more midfielders there are so few reports indicating any targets to strengthen the back four, which I suggest could be expected to be priority1!…
We await future developments in the ever-decreasing time window with interest…
WBAforever - You have a fine talent for correspondence of an “interesting hybrid traditional” style… I hope that your current and future stock of groats proves sufficient to feed your beast… :o)
Looking good for KP signing. However, Why not just offer him a straight two year deal. I cannot understand why we dont offer him 2 years what he wants. 39. I agree with you he wont be good for 90 mins but he can be a good player off the bench for the last 20 minutes or so. And weve constantly been linked with Ameobi… I get a feeling someone else will just pip us to his signing. Come on JP just sign him ay.
