Dog dies in hit-and-run

A dog was killed and its 92-year-old owner is fighting for life after a hit and run in the Black Country.

A black Toyota Celica ploughed into the pensioner and his pet as they walked along Gospel Oak Road, Tipton, at the junction with Farmer Way on Saturday afternoon shortly before 4.20pm.

The animal died instantly and the man, from Tipton, suffered serious head injuries. He was rushed to hospital and his condition is described as critical.
