McLean will cost Wolves £5m

mclean.jpegBarry Fry has told Wolves they will have to cough up a cool £5m for transfer target Aaron McLean.

In a phone call to the Express & Star, the Peterborough director of football said McLean can go – if Wolves pay £3m now and £2m when they win promotion to the Premier League, plus a sell-on.

Sources had suggested Wolves may prise the 25-year-old away for £1.75m.

The former Birmingham boss admits McLean wants to leave, and Wolves is his preferred destination.

But Fry is adamant the player won’t be leaving Posh for anything less than £5m.

“I’ve told Mick McCarthy twice and Jez Moxey at the chairmen’s meeting last week the price is £5m – £3m straight away plus a sell-on and £2m when you get to the Premier League, because if you get Aaron, that’s where he’ll take you,” said Fry.

“Mick says there’s no way we’ll get that, but that’s the price. It doesn’t matter that his best mate is Michael Kightly or he wants to play for Wolves, that’s the price.

“We’ve had two bids from Wolves of £1m and £1.5m and turned them both down.

“I’ve heard they are preparing a third offer but we haven’t heard anything.

“Steve Morgan has put £30m into the club – well then spend it, take a gamble.”

McLean may now feel forced into submitting a transfer request to try to persuade Peterborough to sell at a more reasonable price.

Watford and Sheffield United are also interested, but Fry claims the London Road club have already received higher bids.

“There’s been interest from six other clubs, and we’ve had higher bids than Wolves have offered,” he added.

“We understand he wants to go, but he won’t go for anything less than we’ve said. If Wolves want him, they have to pay the money.

“My chairman bought him to get us to the Championship.

“Aaron’s a prolific goalscorer and if he gets us into the Championship, he’ll be worth £7m, £8m, £9m.”

£5M for a player relegated from League 1, you are having a larf ain’t you?
Who do you think McLean is Ronaldo?
Go back to your calculator and do your sums again and you will find that £1.5M now, another £500,000 if Wolves get promotion and another £1M after he has played 20 Prem games, all adding up to £3M, would be a damn good price for a player whose standard is unknown and quality has yet to be proven.
If you seriously believe ANY player from League 2, which you are in, is worth £5M then you should see a psychiatrist very quickly because you have totally lost your marbles!

It appears MM is using the scattergun approach. If you pull the trigger often enough, the law of averages says you will hit the barn door eventually. Trouble is, the same law says the horse will have bolted before you do.

It seems now, the publicity surrounding Morgan and the money that he was to plough into the club means clubs like Peterborough will hold Wolves to randsom. I am sure if McClean kicked up enough fuss, he would get his move. Peterborough cannot afford to see McClean go off the boil and see his current value, probably around the £2mil mark plummet.

hahahaha, i wonder if barry fry has woke up yet, 5million is bloody rediculus, YES he is a great player at that level and scores bags full of goals, and YES i think he would be great in the championship, but! HE is unproven. if he is worth 5million then sylvain ebanks-blake must be worth 28million, and michael kightly must be 30million PLUS. no way mick SERIOUSLY LOOK ELSE WHERE!!!!

i can’t see wolves spending that sort of money on anyone.
barry fry is just trying to up the price.

and to be honest i don’t trust mick to spend wisely if he is given a few pounds let alone a few million.

look at the amount of players he bought in for decent money, paying over the odds for them and now we can’t get rid off. ward, elliot, eastwood to name a few add up how much these 3 cost.

i always look forward to the new season with optimism but with mick in charge and if we don’t buy quality!!!! during the summer i worry about what will happen. but who knows he could turn it around and make me eat my words. i honestly hope he does.

i see cardiff and brum are in for kris boyd at rangers.

quality, young, scottish, hungry wants to play football, goalscorer.

if we are going to spend 3-5 million on a player then he would be fantastic at wolves.

only downside is he doesn’t like running around defending but give him a chance in and around the box and he will score. so no chance of us going for him then!!!!

TBH you will never get Mclean for less than £3million. We got promotion last year, we have serious ambitions and a chairman who has the money to say no when clubs make derogatory offers for our players. McLeod went to Charlton for a million and Mclean is leaps and bounds ahead of him so 1.75m will never do the deal. For Information of Tonymischi, our chairman and owner is Darragh MacAnthony, owner of MRI International, the world biggest
Overseas property development company! Fry wouldn’t see a penny!

97 PP We can get Clinton Morrisson for FREE and as far as MRI are concerned so what? Just because an owner has a certain amount of wealth does not mean that they are prepared to spend or risk most of it on your football club

£3m for McClean - Vs £3m for Kris Boyd - No comparison - Boyd wins hands down and Morrisson on a free - well says it all really - dream on Bazza Fry dream on……
