Baggies closing in on Bednar deal

Roman BednarAlbion striker Roman Bednar is closing in on an improved contract at The Hawthorns, his agent said today.

But the deal could be held up because of a disagreement over the length of the contract. Bednar’s agent Eliot van Til has been locked in talks with Albion all summer over fresh terms for the striker.

Bednar hit 17 goals last season during a his loan from Hearts. And van Til believes the 25-year-old is now closer than ever to putting pen to paper.

He said: “We’re not a million miles apart and hopefully it is just a case of us agreeing a few details now.

“Hopefully everything can be sorted out pretty soon. West Brom have made us an offer and we are still discussing that but Roman is away on holiday at the moment.

“When he is back hopefully things will speed up and we can get something sorted out.”

Bednar is already tied to Albion on a three-year contract which kicked in last month when the Baggies took up their option to make his loan move permanent.

But he began discussions at the end of last season to improve the deal to reflect the whirlwind start to his Hawthorns career, during which his mid-season glut of goals kept Tony Mowbray’s side on course for promotion during injury lay-offs for Kevin Phillips and Ishmael Miller.

However, it is believed one sticking point is the length of the contract with Albion keen to add a fourth year while Bednar would prefer to stick with a three-year deal.

Meanwhile, van Til confirmed Bednar should be firing for the start of pre-season after a hernia operation at the end of last season was declared a success.

The one-cap Czech Republic international had surgery in his home city of Prague and is now well into the rehabilitation process.

Van Til said: “He had the operation a few weeks ago and everything went well.

“He is feeling much better and now he is just recovering from it. He should be absolutely fine for the start of pre-season.”

Just heard your going for Bobo Balde.
I really rate this bloke. I thought we would have gone for him, but if he had the chance between the 2 clubs, i think he’d pick you lot (only because you play in the Prem though).

I know i’ve taken the mick the last few weeks but i was only joking (I mean my mom’s an Albion fan, but she is a little starnge), but i hope you do well in the Prem and hope to be with you this time next year (if your still there).

Do you know something, in all the talk about the will he won’t he saga with Gera, everyone forgot about this lad.

He’s a classy striker in my book and will be a big asset in the prem.

Another McCourt article. To paraphrase Sir Winston, ‘never has so much been written, by so many, about so little.’
PS. Has anyone else heard the rumour that Gera wants to leave us and that Villa and Middlesboro’ are interested?

you have lost your best player and now your just trying to keep your current players happy. too much has happened already and with the club being up for sale losing gera phillips not yet signing i think there is alot of unrest in the camp. your targets our being publicly not to join albion through the press. tony mowbray INHERITED a great squad and tweeked it to get you up now is the real test and i think he will bring you down with a bang 31 points at most.

    4. I don’t know about laughing wolf I think you’ve been on the laughing gas. What are you going on about?. “your targets our being publicly not to join albion through the press” - this makes perfect sense doesn’t it?. Oh, and I think that you will find that Tony Mowbray inherited a great squad & sold the so called “stars” then built a TEAM that won the Championship. More than MM has done.

At first sight I thought you had rather cleverly condensed all of the things you’ve been putting on here ad infinitum. I was wrong, you’ve thought up a new ridiculous idea. Tony Mowbray (note capitals required here) inherited (note capitals not required here unless you feel the need to emphasise a feeble theory.) He inherited a divided and dispirited squad. Before last season started you told us that all of our quality players were deserting a sinking ship. He brought in around 11 players. I’d like to go on but I’ve just realised, you’re the antithesis of David Ginola IE you’re not worth it.

Please excuse me butting in on your post but I see that you may be interested in Peter Halmosi. I have been an advocate of Wolves trying to buy him for the last twelve months. It seems he is on offer at about &5mil. This chap could be the secret to enabling your team to steer clear of the dreaded first year relegation. This provided you keep to the (damn it) attractive, progressive style of football which got you up in the first place.
I have seem a lot of Halmosi given where I live and am of the firm belief he is at least the equal of most of the top ten attacking midfield players in the country at the moment. He really is able to do it all and in my humble opinion &5mil. would represent marvelous value in todays market.
    Up The Wolves

I would be very pleased to see Halmosi come in. I would also like to see us bid for McSheffery from the blouses - he has some real quality. Kris Boyd is a strange one as he has done really well for rangers but only CCC clubs are linked with him - he may be worth a look.

Looks like Ameobi could be joining - I will defer comment until I see him in the shirt - but its a bit of a suprise.

Joe Ledley is another who could do a job for us - although the midfield is getting a bit crowded now.

Its sooooo boring at present - but i think we will see another whirlwind of activity soon - hiopefully starting with those Arsenal loanees - we need to bring in at least 2 defenders, and maybe three.

4- What a load of tripe.

Of the final 16 in the last game of the last season at QPR, 10 had been brought in by Tony Mowbray.

It’s mid-June, as Happy says, I’m sure we’ll see a flurry of activity soon like last year.

Would like to see us linked with a couple more defenders though.

    10 Warren.
The only thing I can criticise is your wanting us linked with defenders. The first thing we want to see is that they’ve signed on the dotted line.

Laughingwolf, does the fact that even other wolves fans saying you’re talking from your #$&% make you cringe!!

Thanks for your comments, constructive wolves fans.

Halmosi would be a good additon, Ameobi would have a bit to prove as he never really did much at Newcastle. We need to get some defenders in though!

    BOING BOING BAGGIES!!

    BOING BOING.
