Seyi ready for midfield battle

seyi.jpgWolves midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has welcomed the possible arrival of Derby’s David Jones.

Molineux boss Mick McCarthy wants increased competition in the middle of the park and has had a £1m bid accepted for the former Manchester United reserve.

Jones’s arrival would swell the number of central midfielders to six with Olofinjana, Karl Henry, Dave Edwards, Darren Potter and Mark Davies.

But the Nigerian international believes more competition will only be healthy for the squad.

He said: “It would never be a problem if good midfielders come. It would be good and healthy competition.

“For me, it’s about setting short and long term goals and trying to achieve them.

“Getting Wolves into the Premier League is the short term goal.

“Getting to the World Cup finals in South Africa in 2010 with Nigeria is another and both are realistic.”

McCarthy has previously gone on record stating that he believes Olofinjana is the best midfielder in the Championship.

After scoring just three goals in a below-par season last campaign, the 27-year-old admits he is still far from the finished article.

He said: “Personally I think I’m a good player whether I’m the best, I don’t know. I just want to do my job and improve on my weaknesses. I have got one or two of those.”

Seyi’s got nothing to worry about he’s far and away the best player at Wolves

Hes built like a brick out house yet hes still weak i was hoping we would sell, when wolves are on a good day he plays well but we need somone to play well even if the teams have a bad one, he get
knocked off the ball to often and if he has time to think then he usually messes up, hes to nice, and not what we need, (only my opinion)

We’ve had a dire midfield for four years, Seyi has been here for four years. Spot the correlation there.

I do think he is the best midfielder in the division when he is having a good day. When he has a bad day he can be the worst in the division.
I do think he should always start in the team though!!! him and edwards for me.

Amazing how opinion about Seyi differs vastly amongst Wolves fans. I tend to agree with (2) and would rather see a fit Mark Davies and Dave Edwards. Anything above £1 million for Seyi and I would take it.

Let’s just point out that Jones has not arrived. He has not agreed terms yet. If he comes, then it’s Jones/Edwards with Davies ideally. Seyi did not perform last year and Henry was not good.
Seyi scored 10 the season before and missed loads. I am sure he is a good player, as he is first choice for Nigeria. I have the believe that the Premiership is better suited for him!

Do lightweight, gutless midfielders who can’t pass often succeed in the Premier League?

seyi’s solid and can feed a good ball through to the strikers, i think he’s best midfielder we’ve got on his day.

    1. whatever your own send some to me!!
olofinjana is worst midfielder i have seen down molineux in ages.
cant run, cant tackle, cant pass and cant shoot and for an attacking midfielder i think shooting and passing is essential, id rather have foley in midfield than this guy!!
most overrated player at molineux and championship, i look at him and think whats the point, as No.3 said four years he has been the attacking midfielder ok maybe 3 because under hoddle he made him defensive midfielder, and those 3 years we aint been scoring!!!
you can blame keogh, frankowski, james brown whoever you like keogh has to drop deep to pick the ball up because central midfield attacking wise doesnt do its job!
how many through balls have you seen oli successfully hit?? none i know of and if he isnt 6 yards out he doesnt score!! if hits one from distance it goes for a goalkick and if its hit on the volley the asda trolley attendants have to be on hand to stop the ball hitting any of the cars parked!!!
oli is a joke of a midfielder but yet most fans dont see it, they blame keogh for not scoring, when he is infact creating for the other forward but who creates for keogh??? No one!!! but nah you’d all rather blame keogh wouldnt you!!

He doesn’t turn up to enough matches due to his frequent dips in form. I think increased competition will not only put more pressure on him but cover wolves for when he inevitably has an off day. Fundamentally he is a good player though.

Always looks like he should be the “new Vieira”, but never is!! Get rid

When he plays well he’s outstanding - when he plays badly he’s a liability to the team. I honestly can’t make my mind up about this bloke!

  17. Southbank_bully_UK said:

As the manager of a succesful 7 a side team i know a thing or 2 about solid players, Olo is the best midfielder in the history of the club, his passing ability is 2nd to none and very few inside the premier league, his tackling is second only to Steven Gerrard.

  18. Bournemouth Paul said:

When someone says Olofinjana is ‘better suited to the premier league’, isn’t the premier superior to the Championship, am i missng something or isn’t that what it’s all about? It may be a more physical game in the Chamionship, the premier being more technical etc, but generally the premiership is a vastly superior and much HARDER league than the Championship, if he has so many off days playing for us how is he going to far any better playing for someone when the quality of the opposition is so much higher??? Goodness me.

  19. scottwolf1 said:

terryretardbaggie - yes i think you are right - they are empty seats behind him -seem to remember it was the away seats for when WBA visited!

  20. wolves ay we said:

plays well when he has someone strong with him carsley would of been ideal but it wasnt meant to be, its hard to judge him or anyone when hes playing alongside someone like gibson. on his day he can be top class but needs to be more consistant if he wants to reach the premier with us, if we got 3m for him i would let him go.

  21. wolfhound said:

Not a patch on Joe Ledley or Greening

Let him go! The bloke is darn right bone-idle!

The contrast in opinion must be the most divided I have ever seen for a Wolves player. Personally I think he is a class player who will only realise his true potential in the Premiership!

It is good to see, however, that we don’t all just plod along and agree with each other, clearly what George offers pleases some and infuriates others. He is one of only a few players the Baggies would buy from us given a chance and there have been a host of Prem clubs watching him, clearly there must be something there to draw all of that attention.

I think we have got a whole lot more to see from George, I just hope he does it this season. Come on me babbies!!!!!!

  25. wolf15 said:

seyi can be a good player but he has so many off games last season there has to be some cover.

  26. www-fc said:

Terry i would just like to point out your manager is called Mowbray NOT MOWBURY.

But your forgiven coming from Sandwell

  27. stevebullisgod said:

All i can say is if he was in the squad when ince and rae were our center mids would he ever get a game ????? i think not ! he’s not even a 10th as good as either.those were the days when teams played us and knew that if they didn’t play 100% ince and rae would eat them alive

  28. Loffing Wolf! said:

I have it on very good authority that Mark Davies won’t get a chance of making the first team until he stops the drinking, he has had run ins with the muppet on more than one occasion. As for one in four George, you flatter to decieve mate!

  29. Dave said:

oli is the best holding midfielder in the division.

He wins the ball in midfield without fouling and his passing CAN be exceptional. The season before last he contributed 10 goals.

When he’s out the team we lose shape and lose the ball.

All he needs is a bit of consistency, which this season was missing.

Some incredibly blinkered views on here “he’s the most overrated player in the division”….come off it. Why would so many people rate him if he’s no good?

  30. Bridget & Tony said:

Most of our midfield spent last season helping out the middle of our defence and sitting so deep they may aswell have worn the No 5 and 6 shirts themselves

The lack of pace at the back forced the midfield back as clueless MM had done nothing (bringing in D Ward doesnt count for much) to change the dire lack of pace at the back!

Better man management in our view will bring the best out of players and better coaching skills - In our view MM and certainly TC are seriously lacking in the ideas and clue department!

NB If we do little about the centre half berths and bring in more donkeys with no pace - we can only expect the same mediocrity and a midfield and strikers that have to as MM says “Put in a shift”

We think that MM means “Put in a shift” = “track back and defend”
AND that includes the centre forwards!!!

    The mans a joke!

    29. lol “the best holding midfielder in the division” erm he’s an attacking midfielder, henry sits and holds so isnt oli the attacking force in central midfield???
got nothing against the guy its obvious he trys, but so did mark rankine. for an attacking midfield role im sorry he aint got it! cant keep saying this but he contributes nothing in my eyes in an attacking sense, says something when neil collins scores the same if not more goals than oli did last season!!
if we get a proper attacking midfielder in i.e brian howard you will see how poor oli is as an attacking midfielder!!!

  32. petewolves said:

oli-mark rankin. perfect comparison. lol. however i think if he could improve in a couple of areas he could add a lot to our team. hes been here for 4 years now tho and hasn’t improved at all, so i cant say id be sad to see him go. nice guy… bit of a donkey.

  33. Morgan said:

Cousin Ben says Olaf is the best midfielder he has ever seen at the club. He has missed goals watching Seyi’s intricate runs. We have had to calm him down with a cup of Bovril (no pepper) each time Seyi has found the net.

  34. Tracey Smith said:

Sorry George, Your a nice bloke, but you havent really done anything in your time at molineux, and you are very overated, I dont look forward to having you play centre of the park next season, but Mick the muppett will always pick you because you run round like a headless chicken. Lets get someone in that can actually show some quality on the ball, or give mark davies and steven gleeson a chance?

  35. decca said:

on his day, on his day….. Kennedy was the best leftwinger in the division on his day…. join the albion, and we’ll have that Balde in defence. Mark Davies and the Derby lad, with Edwards coming through it would be streets better, then aagain, so would Rosa, but we’re not allowed to mention him, or we’ll be whinging!!

  36. terryWOMANISERbaggie said:

26,WC,in the net you go aye boing boing

  37. debigbadwolfman said:

    17. oh yes!we should take your word then (is there such a thing as a successful 7 a side team?) wot a load of rubbish you’re talking this bloke is an overrated, overpaid waste of time sell him amd give mark davies a chance this season and some of the other younger players i.e little.d jones then we might continue with the progress we made the season before last.3 goals from an attacking midfielder is pathetic and its not as if he’s been creating anything and he’s certainly no steven gerrard in the tackling department either
