Action over nightclub shootings

wd2799259cascade-2-jah-17.jpgA popular nightclub in West Bromwich is facing a security clampdown after two shootings and police reports that it is linked to gang culture.

Guns are said to have been fired on three occasions and a policeman was even threatened at gunpoint after cornering a suspect at Cascade.

Now police want to be told in advance of special events and the names of DJs who are playing.

Restrictions on its opening hours could also be imposed when Sandwell Council’s licensing committee meets on Monday.

In the most recent attack, shots were fired into the foyer on a night in May.

In a report to the council, Insp Patrick Smythe said measures to restrict opening times and last admission were “necessary and proportionate” to keep people safe and cut crime.

It emerged today that on May 1 five shots were fired at the premises.

It is alleged that there was a disturbance between two rival gangs and shots were fired at people on motorbikes in the pedestrian area outside Cascade.

Det Ch Insp Danny Long, from West Bromwich Police, said: “There is a lot of Home Office funding available for systems to detect weapons and West Midlands Police will support any means possible to see people safe.”
