Wolves rival Stoke for Jones

wd2803619.jpg Wolves remain in the hunt for Derby midfielder David Jones – despite alleged interest from Stoke.

A fee of £1m had been agreed for the 23-year-old, only for the deal to fall through. Jones failed to agree personal terms, according to Rams boss Paul Jewell.

But Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey is confident an agreement can be struck and is hopeful the club can complete a deal soon.

Derby chairman of football Adam Pearson said: “I think David has got one or two irons in the fire.

“He has got to decide where he wants to play his football and what package he wants to play under.

“We agreed a fee with Wolves but it’s the player’s prerogative where he wants to play and we completely respect that.”

    NO NO NO
    Please go to Stoke
He is a good footballer BUT a lightweight
He can’t even get in the Derby team and fans are killin themselves laughing that we want to spend money on him

  2. wolvesmod said:

We don’t even need him, so what’s the point.

  3. brummie rob wolves said:

I think he is a decent player but if he is thinking about other offers, ditch him. Any player with ambition, who can’t get a Premiership club, should be desperate to come here. Why…? We are the biggest and most successful club outside the top division!

  4. Bodge said:

Why is he so cheap? and why do Derby not want him?

3,brum,how about, leeds, forest, derby, just to name three, glad you said outside the prem cuz all the prem teams are bigger than you aye boing boing

I think he’d be a great signing and, from what I’ve read off various message boards, Derby fans aren’t laughing at the thought that we might buy him. Many have said what a good player he is, especially for the Championship, he was just unlucky with injuries last season.

And for those that say that he’s just another Potter!!! Don’t talk rubbish. Jones is an attacking midfielder, who isn’t afraid to shoot, links up with the strikers and can actually take a good free-kick.

    Come on Wolves, get him!!!

3 brummie rob wolves - ‘… biggest & most successful club…’, where did you get that notion from?
We have been a second rate club for over 20 years and only now under Steve Morgan, does it look as if it may change but we all await the day it actual happens, until then so don’t go spouting nonsense!

  10. Newbridge Wolf said:

    6. Wow, such a well thought out and constructive comment, I assume you won’t be going to any games if thats how you feel, idiot.

As for Jones, turning us down for a better pay deal, players should want to play for our club, not pick up a wage. I say forget him

  11. briget& tonely said:

please dont do it, he not strong like bull he weak like chicken, please not

I agree the Mick will be gone by Christmas although he seems to have about 12 lives under Morgan.
I just hope we don’t waste too much money and we save it till we get a real manager in.

You are deluded, both Albion and Wolves have fans who seem to be and i find both make me cringe, dont bother responding im not interested.

As for the player, i have heard he is an excellent player with real potential, he has suffered with injury and a lack of confidence, and for anybody who says Paul Jewell is a good judge of player, well he has just taken Ellington on loan!!!

  15. Paul Cheslyn Hay said:

Paul Jewel is not a stupid individual and if he is prepared to let Jones go that says it all for me, we dont need another make shift midfielder who cannot make his mind up. I’ve seen Stelios and Campo mentioned in the comments this week is this factual or just a hope of signing a seasoned midfielder with quality. As for strickers one more will do how about Kevin Philips yes I said Kevin Philips look how he helped the younger strickers down the road last year.MM’s track record in that department isnt the best, one good signing in SEB and that all.

I was in the club shop this week and asked the question regarding season ticket sales, well down on last season merly 14000 sold against 18000 at this point last season. If MM had gone and Ince was in the chair I dare say we would have exceeded last years number by a country mile. Now the only time we will see Ince is in the pre season against Blackburn crying shame.

david jones would b a reasonable capture if we got him, altho he may not b ‘everything’. in my opinion, we should aim for other targets, like, i dont know…… DEFENDERS!!

  18. Grumpy Ole Man said:

I’ve said it before and at the risk of sounding like a broken record I’ll say it again.
Anyone who wants to buy an unwanted Derby player needs sectioning in Penn Manor Hospital.

we need defenders?no more attackers or midfielders!what kind of back four are we going to have next season?last season was bad enough.defenders please!!!!!!!xxxxx

He scored quite frequently in the Championship, sign him up I say!

  22. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

    Also, Sign Greening

  23. brummie rob wolves said:

    5) You have named 3 that are not as successful! Admittedly, Forest won the European Cup twice - a brilliant achievement - but still have not got the same amount of honours.

  24. Loyal-Cannock-Wolf said:

I wish the E&S had an improved forum where you make an account, this would prevent idiots using other people’s name.

  25. muppetout said:

if he does a goog shift ie; runs round like a chicken the muppet will sign him, MM out

  26. brummie rob wolves said:

For all you clueless Albion and Wolves fans. What does most successful mean…? Won the most honours ie first class trophies.
    Here are the facts…
Wolves (9), Leeds and Forest (7) and Derby (3)

The most successful are therefore Wolves… Enough said!

  27. brummie_wolf said:

5 - your in the prem & were still a bigger club than you FACT. also maybe leeds are bigger but how can you say blues are a bigger club than us? you do talk rubbish

  28. Dingle8r said:

If he isn’t irish or doesn’t have any connections to sunderland or barnsley then he won’t be joining you.

  29. Steve - Albion said:

thats your oppinion. weve been more successful than you in recent years. youve won more league titles weve won more cups. and it doesnt matter if you think ure a bigger club. were in a bigger league.

  30. WetWolf said:

    Regarding comment 15…
You are so right! Paul Jewel is a long way from being stupid. We should leave Jones and get Jewel… just don’t offer MM in an exchange deal or we wouldn’t have a hope.
Seriously though, real shame we didn’t bring Jewel in before Derby got him. A good manager at getting the most out of the resources he has and a shrewd eye for a good player too.

  31. terryWOMANISERbaggie said:

27,FACT no club outside the prem is bigger than any club in the prem fact aye boing boing

brummie rob wolves, you’ve managed to unite wolves and albion fans on a subject matter - the fact that you’re a buffoon of the highest order.

    quite an achievment.

    celtic black cb yes

    campo maybe.

  35. Stoke Wolves said:

Didn’t David Jones take us to the top flight for the first time in 19 LONG years? I wonder if its an omen, seriously though I would rather have Anthony Gardner from Spurs, still only 27, premiership and England experience and a Stafford lad to boot. Come on Mick show an interest in him, quality at the right price and also the priority area.

  36. JIWAL said:

Another Paul Cook… looks good, nice touches, but more bad games than good. Not assertive enough, forget him..move on

26.Brummie Road Wolves. I think that as you are quoting history the wording should be “were” the most successful or “have been” the most successful. I think I like the latter wording - has beens seems to fit much better when describing the wulfs team.

  39. brummie rob wolves said:

    32) Buffoon….? No response to my point on 26) as you have no retort. I am quoting facts.
Anyway London Wolf. You probably come to the odd game and go and watch Chelsea or Arsenal on other weeks. Unlike like loyal supporters that have been to Millwall pre-season friendly, Den Haag friendly, a European final and numerous other games!

True! Neither are the Baggies. But does the E&S really have to endlessly post these mindless, repetitive, tunnel-visioned, space-wasting, empty Baggie chants?
Is it too much to ask that comments should have at least a vague relationship to the article at the top?
