Southend continue Mulgrew chase

cmulgrew.jpgSouthend could return with a bid for Wolves full-back Charlie Mulgrew to rival Swindon’s interest.

The Shrimpers’ League One rivals are understood to have offered around £125,000, plus add-ons, to reach Wolves’ £150,000 asking price for the former Scotland under-21 international.

Southend chairman Ron Martin is still hopeful of luring the left-back to Roots Hall.

The former Celtic defender impressed while on a three-month loan spell at the Shrimpers from February to the end of last season. They are keen to bring him back to Essex on a permanent basis.

Martin said: “Charlie is a player we would like to retain. He improved during his time with us but at the moment [Southend manager] Steve Tilson does not agree with Wolves’ valuation of him.

“We don’t think agreeing personal terms with Charlie would be a problem and it’s certainly something we’ll pursue.”

Wolves may want £150,000 for Mulgrew but they are bound to be tempted by Swindon’s offer, for a player who is fourth choice left-back behind George Elokobi, Michael Gray and Daniel Jones.

Robins manager Maurice Malpas worked with the defender when he was in charge of Scotland’s under-21 squad and is keen to bring him to the County Ground.

But Mulgrew remains Southend’s number one target at left-back.

Mulgrew, another one of micks signings who’s either not good enough or not really been given a chance.

No 2 - he was not one of Mick’s signings. He was part of the deal that took Lee Naylor to Celtic.

    WOW, 150k

    were in the money
    were in the money

How many Irish strikers can you buy from Sunderland for 150k I wonder?

Is Mad Mick still in charge?

Gosh! Here we are holding out for £150k for our former U21 Scottish kid who will never get a look in here. Meanwhile others are asking us for millions for strikers who have never played higher than league 2!

Swap him for one of those practice wall things they use for free kicks… It will probably be more mobile than our central defence if we don’t get our fingers out this summer!

    5) 100% with you. A million plus for a League 2 player what is the world coming too. untested at the championship level it could be the biggest waste of money since our polish friend Mr Tomasz Frankofski

Is that a profit Mad Mick has made on him, or what ?
Can’t wait to see who Mick brings in and how they do ? Then how long he lasts in the job if it all goes as it has done before ?

9 Celtic will send their under 11 team, they will still beat you, and Mad MM could buy some of them.
Feeder Club thats all you are.

9 Ask Moxey - as he negotiated the friendly as “part” of the Lee Naylor deal re: celtic friendly

NB Regarding Mulgrew, it just disgusts us that up and coming youngsters are not allowed to develope and we have “world beaters” like N Collins and S Ward instead!

Good Luck Mulgrew wherever you end up!
