Ince set for Wolves return

ince.jpegPaul Ince is set for an early reunion with Wolves if he is named Blackburn boss.

Reports claim the MK Dons boss is set to beat off competition from Steve McClaren and Dudley-born Sam Allardyce for the Ewood hotseat.

Molineux’s only summer friendly is against Rovers on August 2, which would be sure to attract a bumper crowd.

With Ince as Rovers’ boss, Wolves fans would be welcoming back their promotion winning captain and the man many fans want to one day manage the club.

Rovers chairman John Williams stated he is confident of having a new man in place by Monday and MK Dons wouldn’t stand in his way.

Ince does not hold a UEFA pro-licence but Rovers are confident of receiving special dispensation from the Premier League.

Headline seemed very misleading at first glance…but I hope he gets the job. After two immensely successful stints at lower-league football, he deserves his chance!

What a disaster for Wolves,he would have taken us to heights the fans haved craved for.All the best Incey in your new job

The reaction on here is going to be… ‘interesting’ if Incey does go to Blackburn. Everyone was hoping his ’step up’ would be to Molineux. After Blackburn, my guess is his next ’step up’ - if he’s a hit (which I’m sure he will be) - will be to Man Utd after Sir Alex leaves. I rather fear our dear team has missed it’s chance.

    Should be at WOLVES,

    But Good Luck Incey !

When I saw the headline I thought my prays have been answered! Oh well, he will get an amazing reception from the Wolves crowd. He is a legend in my eyes! A LEGEND

He may well go on to be a top manager or alternatively fall flat on his behind!!! Top marks to Blackburn for having a punt, i’m fairly sure he will be up to the challenge.

A different time and place and maybe we could have seen him down the Wolves but I must say I am happy with the direction the club seems to be moving this summer. We seem to be interested in and attracting the right kind of players and the the stuff coming from Morgan seems to predict a bright future for the club!

    Good luck Incey!

And we said no to him - because of experience????

  11. maltawolf said:

I am sure paul will be a huge success as he would have been at WOLVES.Unfortunatly Mr(clueless about football) Moxey would not give him the chance.Yet another big club showing ambition.

We will welcome you back with open arms. My concern is that I cannot see a path for you to be a Wolves manager if you take the Blackburn job. I hope you don’t get the job to be honest. Whilst I am not necessarily calling for McCarthy’s head, if he does go next season, I would hope that you would be our next manager. Best of luck anyway Incey.

I wish him all the best. If we had got rid of MM, he is the man that we would like to have seen down here. I understand the reasoning behind keeping MM for another season, after what he did in his first season but there is no sentiment or excuses next time round. We have some very talented, young players that are the envy of most. We need some shrewd signings and we should not be worried about and should be more than a match for any team - Blues, QPR included.
The 8th most successful club in the country deserves better!

    Oh well, good luck Incey.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing and although I now wish Ince was in charge i think at the time Jez did the right thing in not employing him as manager.

  25. Forgetmenot said:

Good enough for the Prem but not for Wolves! Well done Morgan, Moxey and co in hanging on to “dead man walking” McCarthy.

the worst thing the fat controller ever did was not snapping ince up….

i think that is why some fans give MM a hard time, he was never the man they wanted…

well good luck to him… maybe he would loan us some of his young good players????

  27. bringbacksammychung said:

A case of what might have been!!! No 7 - Happy with the direction the club is going this summer???? The season finished in failure on May 4th MM still in charge and we have signed one player! Still no new defenders, no sale of transfer listed players and Kiteley is supposed to be unhappy - where is there any positives so far???

Interesting how even when there’s no malcontent online from the so called “boo boys”, certain “proper fans” still surface with inflammatory comments, regardless.

Makes you wonder who the recalcitrant reprobates really are…

Still, Im sure that we are ALL gutted that we’re stuck with mick as Ince plans his next move up the ladder. Oh well. Ce sera sera

We’ve missed out on a future international manager who is on his way up, in favour of an ex-international manager on his way down.
Paul Ince would have lifted this club and galvanised the supporters, the staff and the players just as he did as Wolves captain.
We have missed the boat now, and the pig-headedness and short sightedness of the board in control of our football team makes me very sad.
A few years ago I bought a season ticket purely because of Paul Ince.
This year I won’t be buying one for the same reason.
    Good Luck Incey.

  30. wolvesmod said:

Why would Ince drop a level from Blackburn to Wolves? Face it, we’ll never have him as Manager. He wanted it when we gave it to Mick. End of story.

  31. Molly Knew Mick said:

    Unbelievably frustrating!

Many of us felt that he should have been appointed and yes, it is one of the reasons we give Mick so much stick!

The worry is that Moxey is unable to accept he made the wrong call and his staunch support for MM is part of that denial!

The interview question 2 years ago should have been, ” You’ve failed twice in the Premiership, Mick. What makes you think it will be third time lucky if you take Wolves up?”

i suspect if he was asked that he blamed the lack of funding from the Chairman and if he had his time again he wouldn’t do anything any differently!

That would accord with his failure to accept responsibility for the disappointments of last season.

  32. Brightonwolf said:

Well done Wolves - yet another opportunity missed, what a joke our club is. Good luck Paul.

  35. BringBackHoddle said:

Ince said he wanted to manage like Hoddle so Blackburn may get one of the best coaches ever.

  36. Newbridge Wolf said:

    35. I seriously hope that is tongue in cheek. The man signed a striker who was smaller than most of the mascots

I like most fans wanted Ince when the inteviews were being carried out. And was shocked when it was Mick who was announced, I must say that looking back it was a no brainer. Micks experience with forging teams with little or no funds available, or an inexperienced name, who would of had little connections in the wheeler and dealing end of the market.

I am glad he has taken up the mantle of football management, and believe that he will be a better manager for the two seasons he has worked in the lower divisions. (unlike your southgates etc) For us it was a sad case of bad timing with Incey I’m afraid.

All we can do now as wolves fans is get behind the team, to wish that things were different is not going to help anyone in the long term.

All the best Paul, but I am and always will be a Wolves fan first, so I hope we do you over!

  37. wolveswolves said:

Just to echo everyone else’s comments, we missed out big time on this. Instead of having a young hungry manager with ambition to match the fans we have a tired old manager with no ideas and an unwillingness to change.

  38. wolf72 said:

27 - I think everybody would acknowledge that there is little movement in the transfer window thus far throughout Europe but I think Vokes already is a fantastic signing and hopefully a sign of further things to come.

All of the other players that we seem to be showing interest in seem to me to be quality, young and hungry players much alike the nucleus of our current crop. Interest in SEB and Kites seems to have wained and if Hennessey does make a big money move that will leave us bundles of cash to bring some further quality into the club.

I have always supported MM and am content he is the man for the job. Morgan has come out and publically announced his plans for the club and the development of the infrastructure and long term progression of WWFC, this man will take us places, have no doubt about that!

I remain very positive, I am happy where the club is going and am thankful that following the Hoddle debacle we are not currently fighting to get out of Div 2 as many expected that we would be. Although last season was indifferent for us we still vastly over achived the season before and I still think the club as a whole has made some massive progress and developed a more solid base on which to build our future.

I shall be starting the season fully behind MM ans fully behind the Wolves, confident that Mr Morgan firmly knows what he is doing! He is a shrewd and very succesful business man, I do not think he would allow his commitment to the club to bring anything but success!

If you remember Sammy Chung then surely you can recall the dark years that followed and the sad demise of our great club. Look at us now and look at us 25 years ago. I feel as though this is the strongest the club has ever been without relying on the ‘Hayward crutch’ and development in personel both playing and backroom staff only serve to fill me with great hope for what season 08/09 will hold.

Chin up and get behind the lads!!!!

  43. Caravan of love said:

The grass is always greener eh? Mick was the correct appointment at the time. Ince had no experience and would have represented a huge gamble. We needed somebody with experience who could steady the ship. Mick produced a team on a shoe string that made the playoffs.
I still feel Incey would be somewhat of a gamble, not sure if he will end up at Blackburn but good luck to him wherever he is.

Ince COULD go on to be a fantastic manager. He COULD however fall flat on his backside. I hope he is a success at Blackburn, but we shouldn’t regret the fact that he isn’t our manager.

He isn’t part of the Wolves set up and I for one accepted that a long time ago.

    STUCK WITH THE MUPPET

    WASTED OPPORTUNITY

    MOXEY OUT

  48. Bridget & Tony said:

Roy Keane had no managerial experience at all - and he got Sunderland up at the 1st attempt
So all that BS from Moxey about lack of experience blah blah, is exactly that BS!

Ince would have injected the team, club and fans with passion, enthusiasm and real football
instead, Moxey chose the dower MM; who Moxey would get little or no trouble from - doesnt argue about the lack of quality in the side and generally doesnt like the fans as much as Moxey does! (A marriage made at the Mol!)

The club does not need an accountant as CEO; it needs a little ambition and imagination
With Moxey and MM at the helm, Morgans reign looks no different and no better than before!
No-one advocates ridiculous spending sprees, but the way things are going now, the club is again rudderless and clueless (sounds like BM - Before Morgan)

Reserve team playing in a league brought back and now scrapped?

WHY? So Mad Mick can loan out all our youngsters with talent and he can use his squad that will put in MM’s version of a “shift” every week!

6 Possible New Signings we hear! Great! Only ONE problem! Same Old Mad Mick, Same Old No Tactics or Clue = Another boring season!!!

  49. Greg Cooper said:

Re 38 - I don’t often hear many people talking such sense on this board so it’s very refreshing to know that there are still some folk out there with a sensible attitude who can also see that the club is slowly but surely progressing. Some of the plebs that post here don’t seem to grasp the concept that sometimes progression needs to slow down a little in order to fully succeed in the long run - last season things did not go as well as the season before, but all things are relative. If we had experienced last season in our first year when MM took over then the fans would by and large be happy - we completely overachieved in his first year with us which meant he became a victim of his own success. I think as longas we sign the right players this summer (and the signs are there that we will) then we have every chance of getting out of this division and going on to bigger and better things in the Premier League. Here speaketh the voice of reason - keep the faith all you doubters!!

  50. adam tranter said:

i know u ppl think mccarthy has done crap n’all, but would ince have found kightly in the BSP? well? ah, appreciate what mick has done people, if he didnt care he wouldnt manage us, simple as

we lost our chance last season to get this manager,he will be one of the best managers in the country and possibly move on to man utd when sir alex leaves, who will we get now if mccarthy goes??big sam?

  52. brummie rob wolves said:

    33) Guts and ambition…? Neither has any link with your club. You may yet prove me wrong but with the transfer activity so far and lack of interest from new owners, as the existing have little or no money, says no ambition!

  53. Caribbean Wolves said:

Bring back hanging! I imagine a season with Ince in charge, every fan behind him, players utterly motivated. Dread the endless excuses from the Manager and the negativity once we lose a game or two. Ince would have lost games but the belief would have been there. Everything is so fickle at the moment, we are all hoping MM finally gets it right but if he trips up we are all waiting to pounce. Good luck Incy.

  54. stonewolf said:

    50. MM didn’t find Kites you plonker his scout did. He even admitted he never saw him play before buying him-if he had he wouldn’t as he has too much flare.

  55. St Johns Wood woolf said:

Read the comments on 606 from six months ago…the so called supporters were saying he had no experience etc etc.

Paul Ince would have been brilliant at Wolves and agree with most on here we have once again missed the boat, train and plane.

    48. Absolutely correct Keano had no experience before he went to Sunderland, in Fact Hughsie only had limited management of Wales and look what he achieved.

Still let the MM lovers stick with their man, he will be gone soon enough if he fails again.

  56. Timmiswolf said:

Hoddle left us in such disarray that the wrong appointment at that point would have seen us relegated. The board appointed exactly the right manager at the time as MM’s first season in charge proved. In that season we over-performed and exceeded everyone’s expectations and last season we levelled out. But that does not mean that Ince would have done any better, nor does it mean that MM has failed. We are building something that could yet be very good indeed.

  57. Wolves till I die said:

The saddest thing of all is that Mad Mick’s signings from last year are now on the market and *NOBODY* wants them!

I can’t blame them, they were not fit to pull on the Wolves shirt and they did not play with the guts and determination that is expected of real Wolves.

I say, just give this dross away to anybody who will pay their wages, and start building a team that have the Wolves empathy!

Unfortunately, that will not happen under “clean-sheet” McCarthy. I predict that he will buy another load of dross to fill the team sheets next season, while our Wolves kids are loaned out again!

The Wolves tragedy still has to unfold further.

  58. McCarthys Last Stand said:

    51. blondewolf

    “if mccarthy goes”

For that, read “when” mccarthy goes. For him it always ends in failure and tears. But it is never his fault, other people have conspired against him.

So, he moves on to the next victim. I can’t believe that Moxey was stupid enough to pay this serial-failure £1M a year! This club has to be turned inside out!

It always ends in tears with McCarthy!

  59. Out of darkness said:

OUT OF DARKNESS COMETH PAUL INCE!

I still believe that at some time in the future the Guv’nor will be back with us.

Best of luck to Paul at Blackburn, we will always be supporting you after what you did for us at the Wolves! You were a *REAL* wolf. Just like our legends of old! He is now one of our newer legends.

McCarthy is just another bad distraction until we get some *WINNERS* running this club, and not this sad bunch of losers. MM&M; it’s almost a sweet!

  60. Canadian Baggie said:

As a life long Baggies fan I truly think Ince was a huge missed opportunity for the Mighty Wolves to embark on a 10 year plan to rebuild based on a young manager and a young vibrant team - the fans deserve that - I think the choice of MM was based on trying to get quick results with a man who has a limited football brain and no sense of style or skill for his teams.
Ince would have been a gamble like Mowbray was - but to rebuild our two clubs needed foresight and so far the Albion’s gamble on a a manager with no English league experience has paid off quicker than could have been expected.
I truly hope for the best for the Old Black and Gold as an all Premiership Black Country derby is a fixture to salivate about.
    Good luck Wolves

  61. Canadian Baggie said:

I am a life long Baggies fan and as such have no love lost with the Wolves but I would love to see them back in the Premiership as a Black Country Derby there is mouth watering.

I think Ince was the man for the Wolves to build a ten year plan on the back of with a young manager and a young team - there is no quick way back and MM is a short term solution which frankly cant work.

Mobray has little experience and had only assistant experience in the English leagues - Roy Keane was even more inexperienced mark Hughes springs to mind also.

Ince would have led from the front with style and a good football brain - surely even the most diehard Wolves fan could not be enjoying the brand of football MM has given you even in the season of overachievement.

I truly hope to see you join us in the Premiership soon - its time to put Black Country football back in the realm of competitive sides.

    Good luck
