Wolves look to scrap video wall

Wolves’ ongoing stadium redevelopment plans mean the club is looking at scrapping their two video walls next season.

Plans are already being discussed at redeveloping Molineux and the club don’t want to be doing the work twice, as owner-chairman Steve Morgan looks at how best to get the best atmosphere inside the ground.

For now, the club are looking at installing an electronic scoreboard to replace the defunct video wall between the Steve Bull Stand and Jack Harris Stand for next season, as fans in the Stan Cullis Stand cannot see.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We may not run video screens at all next season.

“The infrastructure that is in place is on its last legs and certainly we know the screen in the north west corner is now formally defunct.

“Furthermore, it would require huge capital investment to run at least one screen, let alone two, because we would need at least one completely new screen and they are extremely expensive.

“Because outside broadcasts are so expensive and we need major new cabling work, it may prove uneconomical.

“And because of the redevelopment plan that is on the agenda, my personal view is that we should incorporate audio visual infrastructure as part of an overall stadium plan rather than having to do it again.

“But this will be discussed at the board meeting in two weeks’ time.”

“We may not run the screens next season. People are so used to watching high-definition TVs these days that you wonder.”

He added that work would have to start quickly if an electronic scoreboard – possibly one also providing some moving pictures – were to be in place for August.

The club are also to re-introduce the multi-ball system next season.

If you want a decent atmosphere in the ground lets have a decent presenter who plays good records there used to be a great atmosphere in the days of The Liquidator,Elvis,The verve etc the build up now is non existant

Save the cash and install better undersoil heating Jez!

    Woohoo, multi-ball returns!!

I think Jez is right, I never really looked at the screens when I go to games anyway. Get rid if they are expensive to run

  4. S*U*P*E*R said:

They’re a waste of money as far as I’m concerned. They’re only watched during the ad breaks at half time, and are never used when we do beam backs.

Re read the article, I’m sure that fans in the Stan Cullis fans can actually see!!!

    5. Good spot. First he insults the Jack Harris stand with the pie and a pint. Now he calls the Stan Cullis fans blind. Only two sets of fans to insult now….boo, moxey out

Agree with comment 1. And the pre match build up the year we got promoted was ace. The liquidator, fireworks, music..thats a better way to create a better atmosphere.

I couldn’t care less. The screens are rubbish. They always were.

How about something by local superstars Led Zep,
Bob Plant may even perform live!!

I guess the lack of matchday ‘highlights’ have rendered them defunct.

  13. DunblaneWolf said:

I doubt we’ll have fireworks again after Shearer nearly got his head blown off, remember?

I’d love to have the Liquidator back though, the build up to Wolves games is really poor at the moment and hi ho Wolverhampton is the most embarrasing song in football.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Those screens are ugly and the picture quality is rubbish, roll on corners! ;)

  15. tonimischi said:

Thank christ for that i may even renew my season ticket on that basis…what an unholy racket!!Blarring adverts loud music….where were the advertisers and marketing companies after Hysel?
No-owere that’s where.I remember stadiums devoid of advertising, Big Business didn’t want to know, football was a dirty word.
We don’t need big business in football! especially Murdoch!

  16. Werewolves in London said:

I think it was only Sir Jack who liked them.
Time to fill in the corners with safe standing terracing ;)

  17. pip said:

Fair enough, lets get back to an old fashioned build up remember the A-Z for the football scores, and the fans singing. Those were the days.

  18. pip said:

my friend we thought theyd never end.

  19. Karmik Wolf said:

I dont know. We’ll all end up feeling nostalgic for em. Remember how each screen showed a different shade of green for the pitch?.

Dont forget the “laughing clown” graphic when the opposition played a howler?!

  20. stuwolf said:

bring back the liquidator, that would get everyone going

  21. Neil said:

Screens are useless, commercially and also for the fans. Can anybody actually read what’s on them?

Half-time should not be an entertainment slot for kids with screeching voices bleating on the ear piercing tannoy system.

Read the scores out and that’s it!

  22. wbabomber said:

apparently they were put up to show goal replays, no wonder they now dont see any point in keeping them up!!
    Only kidding!!

For years, the pre match entertain at wolves have been rubbish. Devoid of no atmosphere, the prat in the middle of the pitch is an embarrassment to the club, the ring of fire does not work, hi ho wolverhampton does not work, as for that Elvis song… FFS he is dead so who gives a damn about him!

Wolves need a anthem, every big team has one and we havent got one. Why doesnt Morgan for example issue free scarves to fans who attend homes matches, the scarfe swirling does have a intimidating effect and it does look awesome. I went to leeds v donny rovers play offs and leeds fans did it 32,000 looks boss!

But we do need an anthem,,, any suggestions folks. Liquidator for me but the police think it incites hooliganism, but chelsea use that anthem and they can get away with it why cant we!

As for the screens - Were they cheaper than filling in the corners??? Hmmmmmmm

  26. Hartlebury Wolf Man said:

Is it true that they only had the slow motion replays of Neil Collins on the screen, because they thought it would make him look quicker??

  27. Baggie Stu said:

You Wulfs must be relieved eh? Bad enough having to wath ‘em live let alone again and again in full colour ultra slow-mo(or was that Gary Breen at normal speed?)

  28. Rob said:

Dont waste money on scoreboards - lets put the cash into players who want to get the club into the prem?

Good call- let’s have some REAL entertainment.
    Rock ‘n roll
    The songs remain the same.

  32. DUDLEY WOLF said:

Put em in West Park for the thousands of fans that can’t get in the NEW GROUND when 40.000 seats are full every match. even dismayed boggie fans could come and savour the atmosphere.

  33. brummie_wolf said:

get rid of screens, bring stands closer to pitch & the return of the liquidator.

  34. Dublin Wolves said:

superstardj i think you will find chelsea dont swear or even sing to it when it is played there!

  35. seawolf said:

You want atmosphere- easy- bring back the Liquidator. THE Wolves anthem bar none. Hi Ho Silver Lining is a complete dirge, The Elvis song was probably SJH’s fave song from years ago. The Liquidator is the only one to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end!!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. bobwolves said:

bring back stevie walsh a proper wolves fan who knew how to crank up the atmosphere especially against the albion

  37. Zoltan Gera said:

Hey baggie stu, i dont remember there ever being any telly screens down the boggies, they’d only get nicked round there anyway !!!

does that mean there wont be a re-run of geras goal aye boing aye boing

  41. SUPERSTARDJWOLVES said:

Comment 34, ok chelski may not swear when the liquidator is played but considering they have the likes of Cashley Cole who swears at ref’s its abit contradictory!

But we need an anthem something to generate an atmosphere.

  42. blondewolf said:

bring the liquidator back,i was 13 when i first heard that at molineux it was brilliant and intimidating for the opposition, bring it back!!!!

  43. Billericay Wolf said:

How about “The Happy Wanderer” sung by some Austrian choir, as in the 50’s. No? What about “Things Can Only Get Better”?

  44. PAD said:

Fill-in the corners, good idea. However, unlike most comments here, I do like the screens when our goals are replayed. OK the quality isn’t so good, but at least I get the chance to see the goal again and gloat….

  45. adam tranter said:

i agree with 42. the liquidator was awesome and u banned it for stupid reasons, u hear worse, likely 10 times worse durin a normal football match!! but i prefer the money spent on players. MONEY ON PLAYERS MICK!!

  46. Booster said:

I suggest bring back the Liquidator for one match and if the dungheads start putting swear words to it, switch it off. Totally inappropriate to encourage kids to sing such offensive tribal tosh.
For years in the Seventies it was just “clap-clap-clap-clap, The Wolves!” and that worked perfectly well. It’s only relatively recently that they started encouraging WBA to pro-create away.

TRY WINNING SOME FOOTBALL MATCHES FIRST!!!!

nevermind the current “state” of the stadium, get it right on the pitch!

  48. lookingdownondingles said:

the screens were only their to show highlights, seeing the dingles hardly have any they won`t be missed next season anyway.
re the multi ball system why not go the hole hog a put numbers on the front of your shirts so it looks like your attacking.

  49. winchesterwolf said:

We need the corners filled in - look how many grounds have been redeveloped since Molineux was transformed. It’s already 15 years since the work was done. Until the ground has a closed atmosphere and capacity approaching 40,000 then we can go on about being a big club all day, without backing it up. AND BRING BACK LIQUIDATOR - nothing else has ever got close to psyching up the fans and players before kick off. It’s worth a goal in the first five minutes.
Roll on August, cum on me babbies!

  50. David Banner said:

Good call getting rid of them.

After all, who wants to watch replay after replay of failures, shattered dreams, dodgy play and saddened fans.

I agree with 32, Dudley Wolf, put them in West Park so that the WBA fans can have a laugh on wolves match days as well.

Alternativly, link them into the Hawthornes so that wolves fans get at least say that they saw Premiership play at the Molineux once :)

  51. ashthebaggie said:

#37, i think you will find we have had big screens in the corners for 6 years now and they are as good as any other premiership stadium!!
