Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen has welcomed the new fixtures which sends the Saddlers to Yeovil for their League One curtain raiser.
Mullen, who is still to make his first summer signing since taking over the Banks’s hot-seat from Richard Money, will see what will almost certainly be a completely rebuilt side go to Somerset on August 9.
He said: “It is a long way to travel but I would much rather make that journey in the summer months than later on in the year.
“The weather conditions when we played at Huish Park last season were terrible so, fingers crossed, the sun will be shining.”
The Saddlers then host relegated Scunthorpe a week later.
Other key fixtures include a home clash with Stockport on Boxing Day and back-to-back fixtures against Leeds and Leicester – away in October and at home in late January and early February.
Mullen added: “Scunthorpe have just come down from the Championship, so that will be a tough first home test.
“Leeds and Leicester back-to-back is a prospect I am relishing. They are big clubs and these are games that everybody will enjoy.”
