Eastwood pines for Cardiff move

eastwood.jpegFreddy Eastwood has declared his wish not to return to Wolves and join Dave Jones’s Cardiff.

The last thing the transfer-listed Welsh international striker wants to do is go back to Molineux, where manager Mick McCarthy admits he is not part of his plans.

Eastwood is due to return for the start of pre-season training next month, but wants to have sorted out a move by then.

Cardiff are one of the clubs interested, but no one has yet made a successful bid for the 24-year-old.

He said: “I don’t want to be going back to Wolves knowing I am not going to play.

“I want to go to a club where I’m part of things and I’ll have a chance. That hasn’t been the case for me at Wolves.

“Sometimes it happens when managers buy players and it doesn’t work out.

“That seems to be the case with me.

“I can’t see me being there in August. I need to get away from Wolves and play. Cardiff would be a very good move for me.

“They would be attractive to anyone. They got to the FA Cup final last year and they have got a lot of good young players – you only have to look around the Welsh squad to see that.

“So anyone would fancy something like that.

“Hopefully over the next few weeks someone will be knocking on the door.”

Eastwood admits he was disappointed by McCarthy’s decision to let him go just a year after signing him.

“It has been strange all season because the fans have been very supportive.

“I don’t think they want me to go, so now it’s disappointing when the manager thinks otherwise.

“I like the club, I like the fans and I wanted to do well there, but when the manager makes a call like that, it’s time to move on.”

Coventry were leading the chase for Eastwood, but haven’t followed up their interest with a firm bid.
