A motorcyclist has admitted causing the death of his teenage pillion passenger by dangerous driving on a notorious road between Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth.
Peter Dixon, aged 40, and 19-year-old passenger Mark Incher had been at a weekly bike meet at Swancote Country Club near Bridgnorth. Dixon was on his black Suzuki, with Mr Incher riding pillion, on the A545 when it collided head-on near Roughton with a red Honda and silver Kawasaki bike that were travelling in the opposite direction towards Bridgnorth.
Shrewsbury Crown Court heard how the teenager, from Dudley, was catapulted into the air and rushed by paramedics to Princess Royal Hospital, Telford where he died.
Dixon, of School Close, Trysull, near Wolverhampton, suffered leg and arm injuries and was taken to New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, along with another motorcyclist who suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Yesterday he admitted causing death by dangerous driving and was granted conditional bail by Judge Robin Onions until sentencing on August 27, with the requirement that he co-operates with the probation service.
Mobile speed cameras are now being used by council chiefs in Shropshire in a bid to slash accidents along the busy stretch of road where Mr Incher died. Two special lay-bys for safety camera sites have been constructed on the route, which is used heavily by motorcyclists and has been the scene of numerous fatal accidents.
The cameras will be eventually be operated by the West Mercia Safe Camera Partnership but a starting date for the project is still being confirmed.
Vicki Bristow, community manager for the partnership, said: “This has been brought about by the accident figures for the roads, specifically with motorcycles involved, which have included some fatalities.
“The mobile cameras are widely used on major routes throughout the West Midlands at priority locations where people have been killed or seriously injured through speed-related collisions.”
