The animals had been driving tenants nuts for weeks with their constant scratching throughout the day and night.
But pest control contractors eventually captured the grey squirrels by tempting them out with the fruit. Landlord Walsall Housing Group (WHG) has now blocked up holes and changed air vents at the premises in Walker Road, Blakenall, after tenants complained the rodents had moved into the loft.
Residents today said they were looking forward to a full night’s sleep after being kept awake at all hours by the noisy rodents for several weeks.
Top floor resident Edward Evans said: “The contractors came and put apples in some cages. It took a couple of days, but eventually the squirrels took the bait and were caught.
“We are waiting for WHG to come and check the building for any damage to the fabric of the building. I’m hoping the squirrels won’t come back,” he added.
The fate of the squirrels is unclear removed from the loft.
WHG spokesman Perry Buck said: “We got some contractors in to remove the squirrels, which has now happened. We have also have blocked up all the holes to prevent any more getting inside.”
Top floor resident Michael Lomax and his mother Doreen resorted to banging the ceiling of his bedroom in a bid to ensure a good night’s sleep after the furry squatters moved in.
Neighbours Edward and Ada Evans kept their windows closed over fears the animals might climb into their living quarters.
Squirrels were spotted collecting twigs in the grounds of the property then jumping on the window sills to reach the ventilation pipes.
