Looking for home for old comics

wd2846406comics-2-gd-09.jpgThey are the sort of exciting tales of far-off planets and fearsome creatures that have entertained generations.

And now around 200 comic books dating back to the 1970s and 1980s have been unearthed and are now up for grabs.

The colourful adventure stories had been lying in the attic of a house in Codsall for the past 10 years. Some of the comics, which include 2000AD and Tornado, are said to be worth between £20 and £30.

But their owner decided to drop them off at Wolverhampton firm Recyk, which tries to find new uses for unwanted gems.

Now the company wants the comics to go to a good home in the shape of a community group or club. Manager Purdip Gill said: “They were brought in by a person who said they didn’t want them to go to the tip, they’d rather they they got reused so that a community group can have some fun with them.

“We could have sold them easily but we’d rather donate them.

“They are in very good condition, no rips or tears, and they are all packed in a box. I think a community group would benefit from them. Rather than kids messing around on the internet, there’s hours and hours of fun in these.”

Recyck, based in Wood Street, Park Village, has been given countless artefacts over recent years.

The not-for-profit company looks for items which can be re-used rather than thrown onto tips, such as old records, videos, DVDs and CDs.

Over the years, people have brought in all manner of weird and wonderful goodies including a collection of more than 200 Star Trek videos, hundreds of vinyl records, a guitar, and even an Are You Being Served-style till.

People can donate any unwanted items to Recyk from Monday to Friday between 9am and 4.30pm, or on Saturdays between 9am and 3pm.

Bulky items such as furniture can be collected by appointment. More information on the comics is available by calling Recyck on 01902 863838.
